The ASEAN member states have agreed to use Thailand’s recently launched MICE venue standards as its model for the region.
The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) introduced the new standards in December 2015, with the aim of measuring and maintaining the quality of the country’s MICE venues.
And now the remaining nine ASEAN member countries have agreed to adopt these standards as a regional model, and the Thai system will be incorporated into the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2016-2025.
“The direction for the advancement of MICE capabilities in 2016 was mapped out in four aspects, including trade education, MICE academy, international standard and the sustainable natural conservation,” said TCEB’s president, Nopparat Maythaveekulchai. “[This will] enable Thai MICE standard to achieve the recognition of member countries in order to pave the way toward ASEAN MICE standard.”
One hundred Thai MICE operators, comprising a total event space of 227 rooms, were included in the Thai MICE venue standards in the 2016 financial year.
Thailand will continue to expand the system in its home markets, as well as hosting training sessions on MICE venue standards in other ASEAN countries, in the build-up the creation of the ASEAN MICE venue standard in 2017.
