A new report from the International Workplace Group (IWG) shows that “workcations” enabling individual travellers to work whilst on holiday have grown in popularity over the past several years.
Findings show that up to 74 percent of professionals working from home say that “work from anywhere” policies set in place during the pandemic remain a significant point to consider whilst job hunting.
75 percent of respondents also said that the freedom of being able to work from anywhere boosts their job satisfaction, hence the rise of the workcation trend.
Where to go on a workcation?
IWG’s report listed the ten cities that are the most commonly booked for workcations, a stellar lineup that includes three major Asian cities.
From first to tenth, these are: Budapest, Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Lisbon, New York, Singapore, Jakarta, Los Angeles, and Milan.
Surpassing other major Asian cities like Jakarta, Mumbai, Manila, and Hong Kong, Singapore climbed an impressive 14 spots from last year to clinch seventh place in this year’s top ten, by merit of its high scores in five key areas – broadband quality, food, happiness, culture, and sustainability.
Indeed, the metropolitan city serves as the global gateway to Southeast Asia, perfect for digital nomads and travellers looking to further explore this dynamic region.
The ‘Little Red Dot’ also punches above its weight as a culinary and events destination, enhancing its appeal for both work and play. Singapore came in seventh for countries with the highest number of Michelin-rated restaurants per capita, and has hosted major events such as the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, the singer’s only Southeast Asia stop on her world tour.
