What is your Mission?
Sometimes you have to stop and just laugh
If you have never heard of Tom Fishburne, you are in for a treat, as this is the first in a regular series of articles based on his work.
Tom has literally made an art form of clever parody. My mother would have called him snarky, but she would have done it with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye.
I recently finished the manuscript on an allegorical business novel and many of the fictional characters in the book subscribe to Tom’s cartoon email list. The message of each one hits home, mirroring the absurdity of real life. I am grateful to Tom for allowing me to license his cartoons for my book and to feature some of them here on Fridays.
Have you created your Mission Statement?
Having spent the better part of my career writing business plans and helping companies come up with mission statements, this one made me laugh out loud.
You have all been in the room where this is going on. Someone is checking their email, another is rolling their eyes at the guy in blue, who is “really into it”. The woman in orange has one job and that is to shoot down the ideas of everyone else.
Big sigh.
The Secret of Survival of this Exercise
Once you can look at yourself and laugh, you have won more than half of the battle. Try bringing this cartoon to your next planning session.
I encourage you to subscribe to the Marketoonist right now. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.
Oh, and stay tuned for more information about my new book, the Game Changer. If I could stop blogging long enough, I could actually get the book to my publisher!
