When you’re travelling to one of the world’s busiest cities, staying in posh rooms with luxury amenities isn’t enough. For ultimate comfort and maximum travel experience, one important thing to think about is the hotel’s location. And with Sukhumvit’s rich urban vibe, it’s really an advantage to be at the centre of it all.
Right in the middle is The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok — a 5-star luxury hotel, immersed in the vibrant city life. At the helm of the hotel’s operations is Khun Reena, who shares with us her background in hospitality, what makes the hotel shine, and the best things about the city.
TD: What’s your story? Could you share with us your background in hospitality?
RS: My first job was in 1999. I started out as a part-time secretary at a hotel in Bangkok before I got the opportunity to transfer to the S&M department as the secretary to the director of sales. After a few years, I was promoted to event manager and eventually decided to move to Krabi and Hua Hin. I spent my time there as an event manager and director of events for 14 years.
After a while, I decided to move back to Bangkok. This has been a big change for me after 14 years in the resort. Today, my current role is director of operations and I’m happy to be here right at home!
“Exploring the Sukhumvit area is incredibly easy”
How’s your day like in Sukhumvit? What’s it like to be at the centre of it all?
With so many affordable street food stalls and shopping malls, to be in the heart of the city is so convenient whether you’re working or travelling! The hotel really has everything that Sukhumvit has to offer, embracing both business and leisure travellers with warm Asian hospitality.
I’m proud to say that we’re a stone’s throw from some of the city’s best food, shopping outlets and famous destinations. Plus, exploring the Sukhumvit area is incredibly easy as there is the Skytrain (BTS), the MRT and Airport link that runs through most of its downtown stretch.
“This is part of Thai culture”
As a 5-star property in the city’s bright skyline, what makes the hotel shine?
What makes the hotel a stand out? I’d say it really is the service from the heart. We make everyone feel welcome and part of our family — this is part of Thai culture. At Westin, we challenge ourselves to give the best service by understanding our guests on a more personal level from the moment they arrive.
