WeMo Scooter has launched WeMo RenTour, Taiwan’s first shared all-electric vehicle platform. WeMo RenTour has partnered with smart vehicle brands and rental companies to offer drivers with smart vehicle rentals and short-term leases. WeMo RenTour’s first launch is located on Taiwan’s outer island of Kinmen, an island that attracts over a million tourists each year, and will open reservation and rental services immediately. Taiwan’s National Development Fund, ministry officials, and automotive industry representatives participated in an event to recognize the service launch.
With its mission to reduce dependency on privately-owned vehicles and decrease emissions, WeMo Scooter has amassed a user base of over a million members in its six years of smart scooter operations. The company is now enabling different modes of smart transportation for its users with WeMo RenTour being an extension of the company’s efforts in electric scooters. Through its smart platform, WeMo RenTour is able to share data and information with rental companies, dealerships, telecommunications companies, regulators, and other partners to provide real-time information on traffic conditions and vehicle performance. Some of the vehicles offered on WeMo RenTour include: Hyundai’s IONIQ5 electric SUV, electric scooter Kymco Candy 3.0, electric scooter eMoving Shine, and electric bicycle brand Tern Bicycles. Users are able to book cars, scooters, and bicycles offered by partners joining the RenTour ecosystem through the WeMo app, which will gradually increase the number of vehicle types, operators, and locations to meet the diverse needs of travellers.
As part of the new service launch, WeMo Scooter introduced its new CEO, Davidd Liu. A seasoned entrepreneur and tech executive, Mr. Liu is the founder of CHOCO TV, which was acquired by LINE. He then served as CEO of LINE TV. Mr. Liu joins WeMo to enhance its services to cover more segments and markets.
With this new service, WeMo continues to uphold the original spirit of the brand—“Ride to where desired”—maximizing the utilization rate of green transportation, and converting travel data into business opportunities.
“Smart car networking technology and services are the core of WeMo and WeMo RenTour is an extension of this spirit. We believe that RenTour will act as an important driver in the digital transformation of car rental companies as more consumers embrace electric vehicles. WeMo is building infrastructure for mass EV adoption and look forward to working together with more smart transportation partners,” said Tung-Ming Wu, Chairman, WeMo Corp.
“Environmental responsibility has entered the mainstream consciousness—both for businesses and consumers alike. We established WeMo as a model that could encompass multiple forms of transportation—from short daily commutes to longer forms of leisure and business travel. Moving to include electric vehicles and travel-related services is a natural progression as more automobile manufacturers and service providers aspire to digitize their cars and operations, making environmentally-friendly transportation a natural part of urban life,” said Jeffrey Wu, Founder and Vice Chairman, WeMo Scooter.
“WeMo RenTour marks the evolution of the WeMo business to meet the transportation needs of more people, not just short distances but in business and leisure travel. Throughout the pandemic, people’s awareness of the world has changed dramatically, with greater demand for more sustainable and thoughtful lifestyles, resulting in strong demand for EVs,” said Davidd Liu, CEO of WeMo Scooter. “As more people return to travel and leisure activities, we have launched WeMo RenTour to offer green transportation options that align with greater thoughtfulness and demand for EVs among travelers. Over time, we look to continue to expand our offerings to create a full loop of environmentally-friendly travel options.”
