Between now and the end of 2025, the Lufthansa Group hopes to hire almost 2,000 additional pilots to serve on its airlines’ growing aircraft fleets. The Group’s new ‘flybig’ recruitment campaign highlights the many exciting aspects of becoming a pilot.
The new ad, with the slogan ‘Pilot – your ideal job, simply better,’ avoids the typical clichés. After all, the pilots of tomorrow are more than just aviators: they are also (and most importantly) crew managers and in-flight hosts, all while working in an exciting and truly global environment.
The new ‘flybig’ campaign is aimed at new pilots and already trained ready-entry pilots who want to join a Lufthansa Group carrier. The Group’s cockpit crew corps comprises people from various aspects of life. With different employment models, a pilot’s career at the Lufthansa Group may be easily adjusted to various life circumstances and scenarios. The Group also targets young ladies who want to work in the cockpit. However, anybody hoping to occupy the seats on the plane with the finest views will need to demonstrate a strong team spirit and solid interpersonal abilities – ‘A critical cockpit instrument: social skills,’ as one of the campaign’s ads states.
The new Lufthansa Group pilot recruiting campaign is now available online and in print. It is also being promoted through out-of-home advertising and social media platforms. The related messages for ready-to-fly pilots are distributed through specialist internet and print publications.
The Lufthansa Group initially introduced ‘flybig’ in early 2023. Additional advertising waves aimed at recruiting cockpit staff are planned for next year. To not only improve the image of the pilot’s profession but also to increase application numbers, the campaign encourages interested recipients to access the respective career channels and the website of the European Flying Academy (EFA), the Lufthansa Group’s flying school.
The European Flying Academy, a Lufthansa Group flying school, prepares future pilots. Its two-year pilot training course includes a theory phase in Bremen or Zurich, as well as practical phases at Goodyear (USA), Grenchen (Switzerland), and Rostock-Laage (Germany). All EFA flight training is done on a standardised advanced training aircraft fleet to provide the highest safety and quality standards.
The main advantage of pilot training at the European Flight Academy is that Lufthansa Group airlines prioritise its graduates to satisfy their cockpit crewing needs.
