Binh Dinh province in south-central Vietnam, which was one of the centres of the ancient Cham civilisation, is targeting a sharp rise in its visitor numbers in the coming years.
The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) cited the vice chairman of Binh Dinh’s People’s Committee, Nguyen Tuan Thanh, as saying that the coastal province is aiming to attract 5.5 million domestic and international visitors by 2020.
This would mark an increase of more than 50% compared to the 3.55m visitors expected to visit Binh Dinh in 2017.
To achieve this ambitious target, the province will focus on several key sectors, including beach holidays, spiritual tourism and historical sites.
On the final point, Binh Dinh is home to number of Cham era towers. The area around the coastal city of Quy Nhon is also home to long stretches of sandy beach.
