Trip.com sees HK inbound/outbound search surge following eased restrictions

Following the Hong Kong Government’s announcement on further easing restrictions on 13 December, inbound searches for flights to Hong Kong on Trip.com recorded a 2004% increase as compared to the same day last year.
Hong Kongers are looking to travel overseas, with the top five destinations for flight searches being Bangkok, Tokyo, Taipei, Seoul and Osaka. Search growth compared to the week prior (6 December 2022) is as follows:
1) Bangkok: 616%
2) Tokyo: 641%
3) Taipei: 233%
4) Seoul: 908%
5) Osaka: 667%
Interest in inbound travel to Hong Kong from the following destinations also saw a surge in searches in the last week. These are cities in which many overseas Hong Kongers reside and/or enjoy strong business connections with Hong Kong.
1) Vancouver: 152%
2) Toronto: 186%
3) London: 105%
4) New York: 96%
5) Sydney: 114%
6) Singapore: 403%
7) Beijing: 264%
8) Shanghai: 108%
Globally, searches for international flights to Hong Kong and onwards to the Chinese Mainland also recorded an 89% increase week-on-week.
Trip.com is optimistic that demand for Hong Kong inbound and outbound travel will continue to rise in the coming months, further boosting the recovery of the travel industry.
