Nova Scotia is one of Canada’s great road trip destinations, and last month the Tourism Nova Scotia team from the tourist boards’ UK office, represented by Axis Travel Marketing, toured England and Scotland on a sales mission that involved meetings with seventeen tour operators.
The team started in London providing agent training at Cox & Kings followed by product meetings at Wexas, Canadian Affair and at Trailfinders.
Near Gatwick, further sales calls were conducted with Virgin Holidays, Hayes & Jarvis, Titan Travel and at Canadian Sky.
At each meeting, Nova Scotia themed gifts were distributed, including boxes of Grand Pre sparkling wine truffles.
The team then went north calling in at The American Road Trip, Destinology, Carrier, at Canadian specialists First Class Holidays and at the Travel Counsellors’ head office. Another round of agent training was provided at the Manchester branch of North American Travel Service where more Nova Scotia goodies were given away.
The road trip concluded in Glasgow where a product meeting and training session was held at Barrhead Travel’s high-end Travel Creator store and further product meetings were held at the office of My Canada Trips and at Travel 2.
Tourism Nova Scotia also hosted an evening event attended by ten travel agents during the week-long sales mission. There was a private preview screening of the new film Maudie; the film is set in Nova Scotia and stars Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkings.
Emma Cashmore, managing director of Axis Travel Marketing said: “The UK is the largest overseas source market to Nova Scotia and this has been made possible by the hard work of the travel trade; in my view there is no substitute for getting out there and meeting with product managers and frontline sales staff face-to-face. Our sales mission has allowed us to highlight the province’s rich and diverse offering, spanning outdoor adventure, cultural travel and outstanding gastronomy. Boasting five UNESCO sites, Nova Scotia continues to attract a broad range of visitors through its superb wildlife-watching, hiking and cycling offering and also thanks to its great museums, wineries and burgeoning events calendar.”
