How best to take photos on holiday
Denise Timmis, expert at Envirofone, reveals the top tips for taking photos when on holiday:
“Capturing memories on holiday has never been easier thanks to our smartphones, but it can be difficult to know how to take a great photo. Here are some tips to help you get the perfect shot:
- Check your lighting
Avoid taking photos in direct sunlight as this can cause harsh shadows and your images to appear washed out. Instead, use natural light to make your holiday photos look the best. If it’s dark you can use flash but it might not always give the best results.
- Remember your composition guidelines
Experiment with the orientation of your images to make them more exciting. Always remember the rule of thirds when taking photographs. The rule of thirds is a composition guideline that divides a photo into thirds to create a more balanced and appealing photo. You can easily turn on the grid display on your smartphone camera by changing the settings directly on the camera app.
- Use a tripod
A tripod is a great piece of equipment to help you take better photos. Not only a great way to get all your friends and family into one picture at the same time, but it also allows you to keep your phone steady and avoid blurry photos.
- Editing your photos
Enhance your holiday photos for social media by experimenting with different levels of brightness, saturation, contrast and exposure. Some photo editing apps also come with preset filters to help capture a specific mood in your photos.
- Take a lot of photos and be patient
While we might always want to get one perfect shot, we recommend taking a lot of photos that way you can pick out our favourite ones to post online. Newer smartphones often have a live photo feature which means you can pick your favourite moment as the key photo.”
