The Tuesday after Black Friday, this year on November 28th, is known as Travel Tuesday and is the date that travel providers supposedly post the best deals. Last year, there were 53,243 individual Google searches for ‘travel tuesday’ in November alone with predications that this year will be bigger than ever. But where do you look and how can you save even more money?
At CouponFollow, they’re passionate about getting consumers the best deals when shopping online, so they’ve put together a list of the top tips on how to get the most bang for your buck on travel this year.
Check out our tips below:
- Research prices in advance.
If you’re looking to participate in Travel Tuesday you probably already have a trip in mind. Whether you’re looking to book a hotel room, flight or tour, make sure you do research in advance to find out what the original advertised price is. Then, when you spot a deal, you’ll know how much of a deal it really is.
- Go in with a budget in mind.
It can be so easy to overspend when you see an amazing deal. Start with a budget you’re happy to stick to and make sure you don’t go over it. While the flight might seem cheap, if it’s over your budget, you’ll only end up feeling stressed trying to save up for the rest of the trip.
- Be flexible with your dates and destinations.
If you’re able to be flexible with the dates that you travel or the places you want to go, it’ll be much easier for you to find the best deals. Try to be as flexible as possible, not just looking at flights within a few days of your chosen date, but checking months out to see what the best time to fly is. Similarly, if you’re open to alternative destinations, you can find deals easier than if you are wedded to one place.
- Sign up to your favourite providers in advance.
If you know you have certain airlines or hotels you prefer, sign up for their newsletters in advance to make sure you receive their deals as soon as they drop. This means you’ll be able to make a quick decision about if the options are right for you, or if you need to shop around other companies.
- Make sure to read the fine print.
While you need to move fast to secure the best deal, make sure you’re not just blinded by the number on the website. Sometimes travel providers will impose specific rules onto heavily discounted products, so make sure you read the contract to understand their cancellation policy, what’s included in the fare and any insurance.
- Browse through third-party sites, and buy with the provider.
If we’ve learnt anything from COVID, it’s that booking with the service provider is always better. If you do this you’re more covered for any cancellations and can go straight to the company directly with any issues, instead of going back and forth with a middle-man. By using third-party websites like Skyscanner and Booking.com to shop for the best deals, you can then navigate to the provider’s website to book direct.
