Top European wedding destinations for Americans
According to a new study, Lake Como has been named as the most popular European wedding destination. QR Code Generator investigated which European destinations were most popular for weddings across America. For each of the 45 different European destinations featured in this study, a minimum of three search term combinations were used for each location to find out which destination has the highest number of monthly searches.
Search terms included ‘[location] wedding’, ‘[location] wedding locations’, and ‘[location] wedding packages.’ The average number of monthly searches was gathered, and each European destination was then ranked from the highest to the lowest number of searches.
- Lake Como – 9,885 average monthly searches
Lake Como is the most popular European wedding destination, with 9,885 average monthly searches.
Located in Lombardy in the North of Italy, Lake Como is a popular wedding destination due to its beautiful landscapes, lush green mountains, and luxurious villas, making it the perfect location for a fairytale wedding. Lake Como has also been a very popular wedding destination among many celebrities including George and Amal Clooney, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen.
Lake Como was found to be the most popular European wedding destination in 49 states; Kansas is the only state where it is not the most popular. The most popular search term is ‘Lake Como wedding’, with 6,708 monthly searches on average.
- Santorini – 2,080 average monthly searches
Santorini is the second most popular European wedding destination, with 2,080 average monthly searches.
This Aegean island has some of the most picturesque beaches, beautiful sunsets, and incredible Mediterranean cuisine. Santorini is the perfect wedding destination if you want a tranquil and cost-effective wedding.
Santorini is the second most popular European wedding destination in 35 states. The most popular search term is ‘Santorini wedding’, with 641 searches per month on average.
- Paris – 1,846 average monthly searches
Paris is the third most popular European wedding destination, with 1,846 average monthly searches.
Commonly referred to as the ‘City of Love’, Paris offers the exciting atmosphere of a big city whilst also having the romantic ambiance that is perfect for a wedding location. With some of the best restaurants in the world and so much culture to explore, Paris is a great choice for those wanting an experience they will never forget.
Paris was the second most popular European destination in seven states, including Washington, Virginia, and Texas, and the third most popular destination in 30 states. The most popular search term is ‘Paris France wedding’, with 982 searches per month on average.
- Tuscany – 1,809 average monthly searches
Tuscany is the fourth most popular European wedding destination, with 1,809 average monthly searches.
Located in central Italy, Tuscany is famous for its stunning countryside where you’ll find olive groves and vineyards. One of the many reasons Tuscany is a great location for a wedding is that there are plenty of venues to choose from, including rustic farmhouses, castles and villas, all of which are surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Tuscany was the second most popular European destination in seven states, including California and Connecticut, and the third most popular destination in five states, including Florida and Nebraska. The most popular search term is ‘Tuscany Italy wedding’, with 1,625 searches per month on average across the US.
- Burgundy – 1,250 average monthly searches
Burgundy is the fifth most popular European wedding destination, with 1,250 average monthly searches.
Burgundy is a region in Eastern France, famous for wine and Dijon mustard, as well as its historic sites and beautiful chateaus.
It was the second most popular European wedding destination in five states, including Kansas and Ohio, and the third most popular wedding destination in eight states, including Alaska and Indiana. The most popular search term is ‘Burgundy wedding’, with 1,250 searches on average each month across America.

“Four Italian destinations are listed in the top 10 most popular wedding destinations; this may be due to how relatively easy it is to have a civil ceremony in Italy, with fees ranging from €500 to €9,200.
“Having a legal wedding in Europe can come with many legal fees and requirements; if you do not want this, a symbolic wedding may be a better alternative. Many couples legally wed in the US and then have a bigger, celebratory symbolic wedding in Europe.”
