New research has revealed that London is the number one staycation for families in 2021, with 1000s of choices for cheap eats and free entry attractions. The study, by Shoe Zone, considered six different factors before ranking the locations based on which would be the best for a family. These included:

- Number of family friendly activities (Trip Advisor)
- Number of free activities (Trip Advisor)
- Average temperature in August (World Weather Online)
- Average rainfall in August (World Weather Online)
- Number of cheap eats
Despite London taking the top spot, locations such as Bristol and the Peak District scored highly, with these places having much cheaper hotel rates and offering 100s of options for family friendly and free entry attractions:
London
The research reveals London is the number one place for a staycation in the UK. According to the National Office for Statistics, London attracts around 30 million visitors from around the world every year, which is no surprise considering the capital city boasts some of the UK’s best attractions, ranging from the British Museum to Covent Garden.
Bristol
Following in an extremely close second place, offering centuries-old heritage and world-class street art, comes the music-loving city of Bristol. The city offers 100s of family-friendly, free entry, and cheap eat destinations.
Peak District
One of the only Countryside destinations to reach the top 10 staycations in the UK, was the Peak District, which offers a much different experience to London and Bristol. The destination offers beautiful scenery and usually attracts families and walkers trying to get away from the city life. Mam Tor and The Great Ridge are essential sites for visitors of the Peak District.
