Tommy Sabbatical takes the stage at Extraordinary Travel Festival
Sabattical related his harrowing tale during his surprise appearance
Global adventurer Tommy Sabbatical surprised attendees when he took the stage at the recent Extraordinary Travel Festival in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sabbatical took to the stage in a surprise appearance to share his story of travelling in Russia, his arrest, his detention, and eventual release.
He was originally scheduled to speak at the ETF but was taken off the schedule upon his detention by the Russian government.
Extraordinary Travel Festival organiser, Ric Gazarian declared: “Not many conference organisers have to juggle a speaker line-up where there is a risk of a speaker being abruptly arrested preventing them from appearing at the event.”
Cautionary warning
The intrepid adventurer was released just days before the start of the festival, then deported to China from whence he hastily made his way to Bangkok for the event.
His was a deeply cautionary tale marked by his fear of the unknown, particularly in light of the way he was arrested by the Russian FSB, the organisation that took the place of the KGB following the end of the Soviet Union.
According to Sabbatical, he was arrested and then detained for over two weeks in Birobidzhan located in the far east of Russia.
