Tibet is expecting to welcome more than 25 million tourists this year, approximately 9% more than it received in 2016.
The China Daily reported the region’s tourism administration as revealing the target this week, along with a forecast of CNY37 billion (US$5.4bn) in full-year tourism revenues, up 12% year-on-year.
These growth rates would be slower than those experienced in 2016 however, when the 23m visitors and CNY33bn revenues represented year-on-year growth of 15% and 17% respectively.
The figures take into account both domestic and international travellers, but the vast majority of visitors to Tibet – approximately 98% of the total – are Chinese.
