The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon collaborates with top Thai fashion houses for a bespoke uniform collection
Bangkok’s Street Culture Meets Modern Luxury in an Exclusive Collection for The Standard’s Asia Flagship
Ahead of its anticipated opening in May 2022, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon has announced designer collaboration with Fah Chak WO+MAN to develop a range of bespoke staff uniforms for the property, including looks for front desk, housekeeping, restaurant hosts and waiting staff. Known for their quirky styles with a touch of wonderful, the two brands form a natural partnership that promises to turn the hotel’s lobby and dining venues into some of the city’s most happening spots.
Thailand-born Fah Chakshuvej, Creative Director at Fah Chak WO+MAN, reinterprets The Standard’s tagline of “Anything but Standard” with a collection that delivers a unique visual experience. For her collaboration with The Standard’s flagship hotel in Asia, Fah Chak brings in all her design signatures, from dramatic geometric draping and loose shapes to electric flashes of eye-catching color and sporty details, which are overlaid with the overarching theme of the collection — Bangkok’s street culture.
“From the city’s vibrant lifestyle to how seemingly random objects are thrown together and somehow end up working in perfect synergy, I wanted my collection for The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon to be an ode to the city’s spirit of inventiveness,” said Fah Chakshuvej about the collaboration.
Walking through the doors of The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, guests could be forgiven to expect a rather formal, corporate style of dressing. What they instead encounter are catwalk-worthy garments full of elegant individuality, witty humor, clean lines, and unique cuts. Fah Chak’s creations occupy a space at the intersection of street and luxury, and encourage the public to interact with them on an intellectual level. Flowing fabrics such as charmeuse and satin create relaxed yet chic silhouettes, while the exuberant mixing and matching of materials, patterns and styles subtly references Bangkok’s street culture.
The property, designed by Spanish artist / designer Jaime Hayon in collaboration with The Standard’s award-winning in-house design team, boasts an upbeat atmosphere of vibrant colors, with restaurant concepts that have an eye towards the new and exciting. Responding to the hotel’s eclectic mix of concepts, WO+MAN’s designs for the F&B outlets juxtapose sport with luxe, functionality with uniqueness, and individuality. For the hotel’s fantasy-filled tea room, Tease, the brand draws on the interior’s geometric shapes to create sophisticated garments in patterns of polka dots and stripes. The servers, almost statue-like in their structured uniforms, seem to blend into the surreal décor, in 2D fashion.
While setting the tone for modern luxury with The Standard’s collaboration, Fah Chak WO+MAN focused on sustainability, reinforcing the brand’s environmental commitment by reducing toxic waste and the use of chemical dyes, refusing to use leather or animal products and promoting recycling.
Additionally, Chamnan Pakdeesuk, the creative force behind Thai fashion brand Flynow, designed the uniforms for the dining and entertainment venues located on the uppermost levels. On level 76, where Ojo Bangkok is serving contemporary Mexican cuisine, Chamnan’s modern-retro looks confidently hold their own against vertiginous views and plush furnishings of the city’s latest high-rise hotspot. Inspired by iconic Halston dresses, his take on elevated simplicity for Ojo Bangkok embraces minimalism while focusing on simplified silhouettes, intricate details and luxe fabrics. For the 78th floor Sky Beach, an unconventional rooftop bar, Chamnan opted for inclusive designs that send a positive message and wow without stealing the show from technicolor sunsets and panoramic vistas. The vibe is relaxed, with short sleeves, slogans and denim referencing the beach clubs of St. Tropez, the ‘50s fashion and contemporary street styles.
The Standard, Bangkok’s pre-opening offer — 25% off Best Available Rate, including breakfast for two persons — is available for bookings made until July 31, 2022 for stays between May 11, 2022 and February 28, 2023. The offer applies to bookings made directly on https://bit.ly/3oXy8Pc only.
