These are the most cost-effective hotels for holidays
The holiday season is quickly approaching, and many travelers choose to combat seasonal stress by indulging in upscale accommodations for their holiday getaway. With restrictions continuing to ease throughout the United States and almost 60% of the U.S. population being fully vaccinated, having a “normal” holiday season this year seems like a reality.
However, the cost of traveling abroad is a deterrent for some travelers, particularly at the most popular times of year – like the holiday season or school vacations – when prices are increased due to demand. The experts at the travel insurance comparison site InsureMyTrip have reviewed relevant data to identify the most economically priced five-star hotels in each state. To validate the number of hotels in the study, InsureMyTrip only included five-star hotels that served breakfast and cost less than $1,000 per night.
Of the 35 hotels analyzed, over two-thirds charge less than $300 per night. Homewood Suites by Hilton Albuquerque in New Mexico topped the list for the Most Economical Five-Star Hotel, costing only $106 per night.
In addition, the Homewood Suites by Hilton also ranked fourth in the Upscale Extended Stay category of Business Travel News’ 2020 Hotel Brand Survey.
Albuquerque, NM is known for its Christmas decorations. It has been given the nickname ‘City of Little Lights’ as visitors can see luminaries – paper lanterns made from sand, a paper bag, and a lit candle – all over the city. During the holiday season, there is also special hot air ‘Balloon Glow’ that occurs in the evenings as well.
Vdara Hotel and Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada ranks as the second most affordable 5-star hotel, with a cost of $107 per night.
The hotel is home to 1,495 suites, a full-service wellness spa, a pool, and several eateries so guests will never be short of choice. It’s also won the AAA Four Diamond Award nine years in a row and achieved LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, solidifying its commitment to sustainability.
Known as the ultimate playground, Las Vegas is the destination for travelers looking to enjoy top-notch entertainment, dazzling cuisine, and an exciting nightlife scene. Those staying at the economically-priced Vdara Hotel and Spa may enjoy having a little extra money to spend during their visit.
Bar Harbor Grand Hotel in Maine ($139), Rabun Manor Resort in North Carolina ($149), and Admiral Weaver Inn in Rhode Island ($152) complete the top five most economically-priced five-star hotels in the U.S.
If you’re looking for a white Christmas this holiday and are willing to splurge on your holiday stay, Montage Deer Valley in Utah is a popular choice but costs around $1,000 per night. This authentic mountain retreat is the most expensive five-star hotel in our study. However, it is located less than five minutes from Park City’s celebrated Main Street and offers unrivaled access to one of America’s best ski resorts, the largest spa in Utah, five inspired dining options, and an abundance of amazing year-round activities.
Cheryl Golden, Vice President of eCommerce at InsureMyTrip commented: “We were pleasantly surprised to see a variety of luxury accommodations offering affordable rates for travelers this time of year. We do recommend travelers take a close look at the cancellation policy for their hotel. And, for travelers who seek to protect their trip investment, we do recommend a comprehensive travel insurance plan that includes maximum trip cancellation coverage.”
