At The Global Travel Group conference, Martin Alcock, director of Travel Trade Consultancy updated delegates on what’s changing and trending in travel.
He told them that due to low oil prices: “The benefit for you guys is the very low air fares out there at the moment.”
In terms of holiday bookings, the most popular destination for UK holidaymakers is Spain which is up 5% year-on-year; the next biggest market is the US which has seen a 3% drop in bookings, and third is France which has dropped 6%.
On the whole, Alcock said people still have an “appetite” for looking for holidays and there’s a trend for short-haul and shorter holidays with an average of nine nights or less. The Western Mediterranean is where all the growth is, and Turkey is 20% down compared to where it was last year.
