Small Luxury Hotels of the World returns to Vietnam with the opening of its new member The Anam Mui Ne, the epitome of Vietnam’s breath-taking tropical landscapes and old-world Indochine charm. Perched on 1.2 hectares of white sand beaches on the Southern coastal town of Mui Ne, lauded as Vietnam’s kite-surfing mecca, the luxury beach resort which opened in January 2023 sits at the heart of a vibrant natural landscape that appeals to multi-generations with diverse beauty and experiences. Getting to the resort will also be a breeze – an expressway due to open in June 2023 will cut the drive from Ho Chi Minh City to just two hours, in addition to an international airport set to open in Mui Ne come 2025.
With architecture inspired by the grand French villas in Hanoi and the garden homes of Central Vietnam, the resort pays homage to both colonial-era and classic Vietnamese aesthetics such as customized encaustic mosaic tiles, Cham decorative vases and statues on plinths, teak furniture crafted from sustainable forests, stone from Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, and authentic thatched roofs from Binh Thuan.
Vietnamese artists were commissioned to create 250 oil paintings depicting scenes of Vietnamese life for each room and suite, in addition to the lobby, restaurants and hallways. The artists include painters Bui Van Quang, who is renowned for his paintings portraying daily Vietnamese life, as well as Vu Trong Anh, who has won acclaim for his modern, abstract interpretations of Vietnamese scenery.
The resort’s 127 rooms and suites across six accommodation categories form a loose rectangular U-shaped configuration that opens up views of the ocean, lush gardens, the resort’s two saltwater and freshwater swimming pools as well as Mui Ne town. The design ethos pays homage to the craftsmanship of old, fusing Vietnamese and Indochine artisanal elements with indigenous materials, customised antique-style tiling and natural colour palettes. Clawfoot bathtubs and custom-built furniture such as leather-bound tables add to the resort’s old-world feel. Treats such as complimentary in-room High Tea make it even more delightful for chill seekers to spend the day relaxing at the resort.
Both of its restaurants reflect the diversity of Vietnam’s heritage and cuisine. Comprising an all-day dining restaurant and grill called The Indochine, beachside restaurant and bar Lang Viet Restaurant and Bar, Saigon Bar in the lobby and 24/7 in-room dining, the resort’s F&B offerings range from gourmet delicacies to traditional home-style cooking and street food-inspired classics.
The resort leverages its natural surrounds as opportunities for kitesurfing, jet skiing, sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, bodyboarding, Kymera body boarding and surfing at Mui Ne beach. Or enjoy a slower pace and immerse in local culture in the nearby town of Phan Thiet, with its colourful boats, vibrant street markets and delectable local seafood.
The Anam Mui Ne does its part for sustainability with a ban on single-use plastics and has implemented an array of measures to reduce its carbon footprint with solar power and locally sourced ingredients. Its water filtration plant supplies drinking water in recycled glass bottles, and laundry water is recycled to water the gardens. Straws, bags and bathroom amenities are biodegradable. The resort’s eco-friendly key cards are also made from wood that’s been sourced from sustainably managed forests.
Mark Wong, senior vice president asia pacific, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, says: “We are delighted to set our footprint in Vietnam once again with The Anam Mui Ne. Vietnam is fast becoming one of the most sought-after destinations owing to its diverse natural conditions and topography for travellers. Surrounded by diverse natural landscapes and lush foilage, The Anam Mui Ne is an ideal spot to experience what Vietnam’s outdoor tourism can offer, being one of Southeast Asia’s premier kitesurfing spots, and complemented with a nostalgic old-world Indochine charm.”
The Anam Mui Ne’s founder and owner Pham Van Hien said he and the resort’s team were thrilled to be recognized by such a prestigious group that shared his passion for “an intimate, classic and distinctly Vietnamese hotel brand that is a welcome counterpoint to the industrialized hotel chains.”
“It is an absolute honour to join SLH and for The Anam Mui Ne, crafted by age-old artisans from across Vietnam, to be recognized as the collection’s first Vietnamese property,” said Mr Hien.
