Onyx Hospitality Group, the Bangkok-based hotel company, has made its debut in Malaysia with the launch of the Amari Johor Bahru.
The new-build hotel brings 242 rooms and a series of upscale amenities to the centre of Malaysia’s southernmost city. It is also located next to the Persada Convention Centre and close to the upcoming Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system which will link Johor Bahru and Singapore.
“As Onyx Hospitality Group continues to expand its presence in the Asia Pacific region, the opening of Amari Johor Bahru demonstrates the growing regional appeal of our portfolio of brands,” said Douglas Martell, Onyx’s CEO. “Amari Johor Bahru has been designed in response to market demands and trends, as tourism in Johor Bahru is currently undergoing a major transformation.”
Facilities at Amari Johor Bahru include a spa, outdoor pool, several F&B outlets and extensive meeting space, including a ballroom, outdoor terrace and an “Idea Room”.
The new hotel marks the start of a series of projects planned by Onyx in Malaysia, with the Ozo Medini and Shama Medini also rising in the Johor area and Ozo Georgetown opening in Penang.
Onyx now has more than 30 hotels either operating or under development across Asia.
