TAP reaches two million passengers on Portugal-Brazil routes
Unprecedented number of passengers consolidates TAP's leadership on transatlantic routes between Europe and Brazil
TAP Air Portugal has once again reached a historic milestone in its operations between Portugal and Brazil. For the first time in its history, the airline surpassed the mark of two million passengers carried in a single year between the two countries. This figure represents a significant increase in demand for flights between the two continents and consolidates TAP’s position as one of the main operators of transatlantic routes.
With daily and frequent flights between Lisbon and various Brazilian cities, the airline has been an essential bridge for cultural, tourist and business exchange between the two nations. The milestone of two million passengers is one that has never been reached before in a single year.
‘TAP is proud to connect two countries with a shared history and a promising future. This record reflects our commitment to the quality of our services and our passengers’ confidence in our work. We thank everyone who has chosen and continues to choose TAP for their journeys between Portugal and Brazil and we remain committed to offering an exceptional flight experience,’ said Luís Rodrigues, CEO of TAP.
Victor Pereira, the two millionth passenger, is 22 years old and a production engineering student. Today, 19 December, at 00:25, he departed on TP028 from Salvador Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport, in Bahia, bound for Porto, Portugal, with a stopover in the Portuguese capital.
Travelling to Portugal for the second time, Victor will take the opportunity to go on holiday and visit his girlfriend, who is studying in Porto. ‘I really liked this tribute, it’s different and important for airlines to have this contact and this affection with their customers. This care is very nice. I was very happy’.
Also to be congratulated is TAP Miles&Go, which recently reached the milestone of two million clients in Brazil. To celebrate this achievement, TAP Miles&Go presented the two millionth passenger with 200,000 miles.
The routes between Portugal and Brazil are one of the main pillars of growth for TAP, which continues to invest in expanding its network of destinations and improving the on-board experience.
With the arrival of 2025, TAP plans to continue this growth trajectory, further expanding its presence between the two countries and maintaining excellence in customer service.
For 11 consecutive years, TAP has been voted Europe’s Leading Airline to South America by the World Travel Awards, in recognition of its excellent service. In addition, in 2023 it received the MICE Awards for Best European Airline.
TAP Air Portugal flies directly from Lisbon to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belém, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Natal, Maceió, Porto Alegre, Recife, Salvador, Florianópolis and Manaus, as well as connecting Porto to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In total, there are 13 cities in Brazil (15 routes from Lisbon and Porto) that TAP connects directly to Portugal.
