T-Systems Iberia, division of digitalization services for companies and public administration of Deutsche Telekom, has joined the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations with the aim of facilitating the process of change of tourist destinations towards a more innovative, sustainable and accessible through the application of technology.
The tourism industry, according to the latest government forecasts, will account for 12.6% of the national GDP at the end of this year; This data highlights the relevance of improving the competitiveness of a key sector for the country’s economy, through technological solutions that adapt to the new context that the sector faces. “ Tourism is the unbeatable showcase to demonstrate the capabilities of the digitalization and innovation processes for Spain. Its importance and international recognition allows us to have a strong industry capable of taking on the great challenges that lie ahead.
The integration of public management data must be at the center of tourism decision-making, which is why T-Systems is in a privileged position to help tourist destinations, thanks to our leadership in public management solutions and in the capabilities that new technologies provide us.
In this sense, AI and data spaces are going to be crucial to guarantee a sustainable tourism model and to democratize knowledge and technology throughout the entire tourism value chain, from the largest hotel chain, to the smallest establishment that we find in tourist destinations. ”explains Pedro Garibi, Smart & Sustainable Solutions Business Development Manager at T-Systems Iberia.
The Network of Smart Tourist Destinations is an initiative of the Secretary of State for Tourism to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge that contributes to the intelligent development of tourist destinations. Since its constitution in 2019, this network acts as a catalyst for the DTI program for its consolidation and as a key instrument to guarantee Spain’s leadership in the design and execution of public tourism policies at the local level.
Innovative solutions for sustainable tourist destinations
With this new membership, T-Systems makes its Smart Tourism solutions available to the destinations integrated in this network and promotes the change to an intelligent and sustainable tourism model through technology.
Among the solutions are the AERO comprehensive destination management platform, which is aligned with the Intelligent Destination Platform (PID) model promoted by SEGITTUR itself, as well as specific applications such as Syrah, the first standardized solution, which combines a technological platform with consulting services that allows checking the alignment of sustainability policies in companies and public institutions with the specific sustainability strategies of each organization.
T-Systems also has solutions to communicate and provide high-value services to the tourism ecosystem (companies, managers and the tourists themselves), such as state-of-the-art Apps and tourist portals, tools to adequately manage tourist mobility, both for people as well as vehicles, and know at all times the flow of citizens in public spaces to control their capacity or the flow of traffic according to areas and times. In addition, it also contemplates the management of other municipal services such as waste management and street cleaning, public lighting or the management of public buildings to adapt their availability to the number of citizens and tourists who are in the municipality at any given time.
Municipalities such as Adeje, in Tenerife, are already using these technologies to promote their Smart Tourist Destination model.
