Star adds longer cruises from Shanghai

SuperStar Virgo

Star Cruises is adding a series of longer voyages from Shanghai, allowing passengers to include Tokyo and Mount Fuji in their itineraries.

The new seven-night, eight-day voyages will add these two top Japanese destinations to existing stops in Osaka and Kagoshima on the five-night, six-day cruises. The new season of cruises will begin on 6 July and extend to 30 November 2017.

“The average cruise length from China tends to be short, at four to five nights, with calls to secondary port cities. The cruise ship itself is the primary attraction,” said Ang Moo Lim, president of Star Cruises.

“Star Cruises’ new eight-day, seven-night  cruises will provide a step-change forward in the Chinese cruise experience with calls to four famous ports and bringing the cruise length to international standards where more than 50% of cruises are of seven-night duration.

“The extension of our itinerary… will bolster its appeal to the overseas market, which we believe will attract more international cruise travellers to Shanghai,” he added.

The new seven-night cruises will be operated aboard the SuperStar Virgo with visits to Tokyo, Mount Fuji and Osaka and land tour options in Kyoto and Kagoshima.
