Sofitel Sydney Wentworth offers first look into its renovation

Worth around AUD60 million, the updated hotel opens this October

Slated to reopen in October of this year, the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth released images to the public featuring its new look.

The transformation includes an extensive refurbishment to enhance the hotel’s offering for itFender Katsalidiss guests while retaining the distinctive heritage it is known for across the world.

Led by architecture and interior design firm Fender Katsalidis, the refurbishment of the heritage-listed property includes 436 guest rooms and suites that have been reimagined to offer a blend of luxury and comfort.

The redesign also covers the hotel’s public spaces, including its grand entrance lobby which will welcome guests with vibrant, striking features.

New features of the hotel include the Health & Wellness Studio designed with a fully equipped gym, and an exclusive club lounge for existing members and day pass holders to relax, entertain and work.

A historic landmark

Sofitel Sydney Wentworth general manager Sam Panetta said: “We are excited to reignite and add layers to the history of this landmark hotel. The repositioning of the Sofitel will enhance the luxury services on offer and reinforce the value of the brand.”

With a storied history spanning over half a century, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has been an iconic feature of Sydney’s urban landscape since its inception as the Wentworth Hotel in 1966. 

Just footsteps away from Australia’s key landmarks, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House, the luxury hotel has been hosting international guests since its beginnings.

Since its launch as Sydney’s first luxury hotel, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has hosted an illustrious array of international dignitaries and celebrities, solidifying its status as a cultural hub. 

These include the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, the late Princess Diana, Bill Gates, numerous film and sports stars, and American Apollo astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.
