eSIM and travel SIM provider Sim Local has launched a trial project with Heathrow, expanding its partnership with the UK’s busiest airport.
Having operated an omni channel strategy aimed at inbound travellers at Heathrow for many years, Sim Local will now target outbound and transit passengers through a network of eSIM kiosks.
Sim Local representatives will also be on the ground to help assist and educate passengers on eSIMs as an easy, cost-effective travel connectivity solution.
The trial with Heathrow sees Sim Local kiosks positioned at key outbound long-haul gates in each of the airport’s four terminals, targeting corridors to the Far East, the Americas and the Middle East.
Ian Rankin, Chief Commercial Officer at Sim Local, said: “This trial enables us to take our strategy to the next level, targeting key outbound long-haul travel markets from Heathrow.
“Should the trial be successful we hope to deploy many more kiosk locations across Heathrow and other key UK Airports.
“We already operate 10 retail stores across the UK, plus a network of 25 eSIM and eSIM enabled vending machines, along with close to 100 affiliate touchpoints in UK airports with the likes of WH Smith.
“As uptake of eSIMs continues to grow and more people become switched on to their simplicity and cost-effectiveness, this trial marks the next step in our expansion as we bring this game-changing connectivity solution to more travellers than ever before.”
Sim Local has also recently launched a new kiosk at Stansted Airport.
As well as its UK network, Sim Local operates six retail stores across Europe, numerous vending machines and hundreds of affiliate touchpoints in Europe and the USA through WHS International, InMotion and other partners.
Heathrow accounts for around 30% of the total UK airport traffic per year, carrying more than 85million passengers annually.
