Shangri-La Rasa Ria, a sustainable, 5-star resort located in beautiful Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, has announced its new Sarimpak Robe initiative, which not only aligns with its sustainability vision but also seeks to create a positive influence on the local Tuaran community. Available for both adults and children staying in the Ocean Wing, the robes are the result of a collaboration with Changgih Designs and 15 talented, artisan mothers from Tuaran.
The Sarimpak Robes draw inspiration from the iconic Sarimpak ornament worn by the Bajau Samah people of Sabah during ceremonies. The design reflects the cultural heritage and incredible craftsmanship of the local artisans. Intricate patterns and motifs on the robes are handcrafted using traditional techniques, showcasing the skill and talent of these designers. Through this initiative, Shangri-La Rasa Ria supports the local community by providing sustainable income opportunities and preserving cultural heritage. By purchasing these unique robes, guests contribute to uplifting the Tuaran community and promoting fair trade practices.
Shangri-La Rasa Ria stands as a testament to sustainable hospitality. The accommodations are incorporated with energy-efficient features and eco-friendly materials, ensuring a comfortable stay without compromising the environment.
The resort’s commitment to sustainable dining experiences is evident in its diverse culinary offerings. Shangri-La Rasa Ria’s restaurants pride themselves on serving a delightful blend of regional and international cuisine while prioritising the use of locally sourced and organic ingredients. This dedication is further reinforced through the company’s Rooted in Nature initiative and the presence of the Chef Herb Garden at the Garden Wing.
Shangri-La Rasa Ria supports and uplifts local farmers and producers by emphasising the utilisation of locally sourced ingredients. This strengthens the local economy and helps reduce the carbon footprint associated with long-distance food transportation. The resort’s collaboration with nearby farmers ensures that guests can enjoy fresh, high-quality produce whilst contributing to sustainable agricultural practice.
Shangri-La Rasa Ria is also proud to have its own nature reserve, the Rasa Ria Reserve. The 64-acre tropical jungle is home to a wealth of native flora and fauna, from rain trees and lemongrass to slow lorises and long-tailed macaques. Guests can take part in tree planting programmes or learn about the landscape on a guided walk with one of the knowledgeable Resident Naturalists.
