Travelex will also be launching a new store and two new ATMs at the airport, taking its total footprint to 11 stores and 50 ATMs. The extension of Travelex’s contract at Schiphol comes as European aviation surpassed pre-Covid passenger levels last year. Schiphol served 66.8 million customers in 2024, marking an 8% increase on 2023 and securing its status as the third busiest airport in the world by international passenger traffic numbers. Travelex first entered Schiphol in 2004 and become the airport’s preferred foreign exchange partner in 2022. Travellers can use Travelex’s Schiphol stores to purchase over 50 different foreign currencies or collect cash they have pre-ordered online, and can collect pre-ordered currency at a dedicated pick-up desk. At Schiphol Airport, Travelex is the leading wholesale provider of foreign currency services, supporting over 80% of concessionaires with efficient cash handling solutions. Travelex facilitates the processing and supply of both foreign currencies and euros, ensuring seamless operations for businesses at one of Europe’s busiest airports. Leonard Stolk, Managing Director at Travelex Europe, said: “We have had the pleasure of serving millions of travellers at Schiphol over the last 20 years, and we’re delighted to be extending our partnership for another five years. Travelex launches NCR Atleos
Travelex, a foreign exchange brand, has launched a major refresh of its international ATM estate, replacing the hardware and software of its entire portfolio of 600 ATMs across eight countries. The new portfolio unlocks a wide range of innovative new features for Travelex customers, including contactless cash withdrawals. Travelex is replacing its network of ATMs with NCR Atleos’ SelfServ ATM range, alongside NCR Atleos’ software and SaaS monitoring tool called Vision, across the UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Australia and New Zealand. NCR Atleos has previously powered Travelex ATMs in other markets at high volume airports and travel hubs, delivering operational efficiencies and a convenient, consistent customer experience. In addition to supporting FX and domestic currency transactions, the NCR Atleos SelfServ ATMs will offer Travelex customers a range of enhanced capabilities, including touch screens (rather than traditional buttons), barcode readers, and contactless readers in certain territories. Contactless readers enable customers to withdraw cash by tapping a card or any other NFC enabled device (such as a phone or smartwatch). The ability to withdraw cash without physically inserting a card isn’t yet widespread across many territories, but will now be offered to Travelex customers across select ATMs in some of the European markets. Travelex undertakes major UAE expansion
Travelex, a market leading foreign exchange brand, has undertaken a major expansion in the UAE with the launch of 13 new stores across Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports. At Zayed International Airport, Travelex is doubling its store footprint from seven to 14 stores, including six new on-the-move kiosk (OTM) locations at arrivals baggage, airside departures and pre-immigration, and one new traditional landside store. The new landside store will offer both a cash management service that will enable the airport’s businesses to process cash, as well as traditional consumer cash services, including access to 62 currencies. Travelex initially entered Zayed International Airport in late 2023 with seven stores and eight ATMs. The new stores reflect the growing passenger demand and customer requirements of the UAE’s newest airport. As a dominant force in the capital’s aviation sector, Zayed International Airport rapidly affirmed itself as a key hub for air travel, solidifying its position as a vital player in the global travel landscape. At Dubai International (DXB), Travelex is in the process of launching six new stores across all three terminals, including new traditional stores and stores upgraded from OTMS. Two ATMS dispensing AED were also installed at Terminal 3 Arrivals earlier this year. DXB has also seen a considerable post-pandemic growth in pax numbers, reinforcing its status as a leading hub for international travel. The 13 new stores across Abu Dhabi and Dubai means Travelex will be operating 60 locations across the country. The latest IATA figures show that Middle Eastern airlines saw a 9.6% year-on-year increase in demand for June 2024, while capacity increased 9.4% year-on-year. Batu Dölay, Managing Director, Travelex Middle East and Türkiye said: “We’re delighted to be expanding our presence at two of the most exciting and dynamic airports in the world. This investment reflects the growing global reach and passenger numbers of our UAE airport partners, and our commitment to providing even greater access to international travel money than ever before.”

Beyond the TMC, the app also enables customers to order foreign currency cash for delivery to their home or for collection from a Travelex store (in the UK) or to collect it from a Travelex or Travelex partner store (in Australia). Travelex launches bank partnerships across Japan
Travelex, a market leading foreign exchange brand, has launched an FX affiliate referral programme with over 60 local banks across Japan, with over 30,000 of these banks’ customers having subsequently benefited from access to travel money since the programme’s launch late last year. With many local Japanese banks reducing or withdrawing their in-house retail FX services, the referral partnership programme sees these banks refer those customers who require travel money directly to Travelex. These referred customers are then able to receive a discount on their travel money purchases simply by showing their bankcard. The referral programme enables customers to receive a discount on their travel money purchases both in Travelex’s 66 stores across Japan or online. The discount also covers both cash purchases and purchases made on the Travelex Travel Money Card, which was introduced to the Japanese market last year. The model has served to benefit the banks, their customers and Travelex: for the banks, the partnership means they are still able to assist their customers with travel money needs, even when not providing FX services directly; for customers, they are now able to access discounted travel money services nationwide; and for Travelex, the partnerships have helped further expand the company’s distribution network and customer base, and enabled them to help customers who would have otherwise struggled to access retail FX services. So far, over 60 Tier 1 and 2 local banks have joined the programme, with over 30,000 Japanese customers served to date. Travelex is now working to expand the project even further, with the target of having served 40,000 customers in the coming months. The partnerships in Japan follows a similar project in New Zealand, which saw Travelex partner with Bank of New Zealand to enable BNZ’s 1.2m customers to access discounted travel money. Over 3,000 BNZ customers successfully took advantage of the project within its first few months. Jun Otani, Jun Otani, Director, Travelex Japan said: “We believe everyone who wishes to travel should have convenient access to travel money services. We are therefore delighted to have already helped over 30,000 customers from more than 60 banks access discounted travel money in just a few months. These partnerships are part of our mission to increase convenience for Japanese travellers, putting them first and ensuring they can effectively access travel money how and when they need it. We look forward to expanding the project throughout this year and beyond.”
