Tourism Malaysia entices Indian travellers at SATTE 2025

Tourism Malaysia returned to the South Asia’s Travel & Tourism Exchange (SATTE) for the 21st time this year.  One of India’s largest tourism fairs, the three-day event was held from 19th to 21st February in Delhi. Tourism Malaysia’s participation is in keeping with its drive to keep Malaysia as a preferred tourist destination in the minds of Indian travellers. During this year’s exchange, the tourism board focussed on niche products like shopping, golf, luxury tourism, soft tourism, theme parks, and honeymoon packages to promote its Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. A prime destination for events Consequently, Tourism Malaysia also leveraged several niche product segments, including weddings, as well as Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE). Having been recognised as the Best MICE Destination 2024 in the Indian market, Malaysia continues to maintain its reputation and a destination of choice for Indian corporations. As SATTE 2025 welcomed over 40,000 trade visitors, Tourism Malaysia officials anticipate a significant increase in Indian tourists to their country thanks to the rigorous promotion and stronger cooperation between tour operators and members of the tourism sector. The Malaysian delegation was headed by Ahmad Johanif Mohd Ali, director of the Tourism Malaysia New Delhi office, together with 58 organisations representing tour agents, hotel and resort operators, tourism product owners, airline operators, the Sabah Tourism Board, and Tourism Melaka. Taking Malaysia to a vital market Ali declared at the event: “Tourism Malaysia remains committed in attracting a growing number of Indian visitors, catering to their diverse preferences. The Indian market has been a significant source of visitors to Malaysia for over two decades. With the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) campaign, we are focused on significantly increasing arrivals from the Indian market.” India has been a priority market for Malaysia, given the strong economic ties with cultural connections between the two countries. Hence, India is currently Malaysia’s sixth-largest source of visitors. In 2024, Malaysia recorded a total of 38 million visitor arrivals, with 1.4 million coming from India. In terms of air connectivity, 240 flights with 45,672 seats are offered weekly between India and Malaysia, operated by Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air, AirAsia, Air India, and IndiGo. Furthermore, Tourism Malaysia will leverage on the announcement of the visa-free policy for Indian travellers to Malaysia until 31st  December 2026 as this is an opportunity to promote increased travel from India to Malaysia.

Tourism Authority of Thailand shows off the country’s best at SATTE 2025

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) showcased Thailand’s tourism potential at the South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) 2025. The event was staged from 19th to 21st February at Yashobhoomi – India International Convention and Expo Centre.  For its 16th consecutive year at SATTE, TAT highlighted Thailand’s diverse travel experiences in order to strengthen its appeal among Indian travellers. As India’s largest travel and tourism fair, SATTE 2025 is set to welcome over 35,000 visitors and 1,400 exhibitors. The Thailand Stand, spanning 300 square metres, featured three zones: an information area, a business networking space, and an interactive cultural demonstration area showcasing Thai art and culture. The stand was jointly presented by 50 Thai tourism businesses, facilitating business-to-business (B2B) engagements and collaborations. A solid platform for tourism promotion TAT deputy governor for international marketing in Asia and the South Pacific Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai emphasised the significance of the event. In a statement, she declared: “SATTE 2025 is a vital platform for Thai tourism operators to foster business opportunities, introduce new travel products, and promote exclusive packages tailored to Indian tourists. It strengthens Thailand’s position as a premier destination under the globally recognised ‘Amazing Thailand’ brand, aligning with the ‘Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year’ initiative.” India remains one of Thailand’s fastest-growing tourism markets, with 2,129,149 Indian visitors recorded in 2024, a 30.74 percent increase from 2023.  This surge is attributed to Thailand’s visa exemption policy, allowing stays of up to 60 days, along with extensive air connectivity offering 2.93 million seats in 2024, nearly a full recovery to pre-pandemic levels. With a target of 2.3 million Indian arrivals in 2025, TAT is actively expanding its marketing efforts to cater to key traveller segments, including families, luxury leisure, weddings and celebrations, and golf tourism. Flagship initiatives As part of its strategic initiatives, TAT has launched two flagship projects for Indian travellers.  The ‘Living it Up in Thailand’ campaign promotes cultural, culinary, and adventure experiences for Indian millennials through collaborations with travel platforms such as Clear Trip and Akbar Holidays.  Meanwhile, the ‘Celebrations with Care and Inner Shine’ campaign targets India’s growing wedding and anniversary travel market by engaging wedding planners and party organisers with exclusive promotions and familiarisation trips. Thailand continues to attract Indian travellers with its diverse experiences, world-class hospitality, and strong connectivity.  Bangkok, Chon Buri, Phuket, Krabi, and Surat Thani remain top destinations, while emerging favourites include Ko Samui, Ko Tao, Ko Pha-ngan, Phang-nga, Rayong, and Chiang Rai.  Popular activities among Indian visitors include beach experiences, Thai cuisine, nightlife, wellness retreats, and heritage tours, with an average spend of 34,920 Baht per trip and an average stay of 6.58 nights.

Goa Tourism showcases sustainable and experiential travel at SATTE 2025

The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, made a strong impression at South Asia’s Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) 2025 with the grand inauguration of the Goa Pavilion at Yashobhoomi (IICC), New Delhi. The pavilion was officially inaugurated by the Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa, Rohan A. Khaunte, who is leading the Goa delegation at the event. Air India’s Business & Premium Economy seats, A350 VR experience on display at SATTE 2025

Air India, India’s leading global airline, is showcasing its latest Business Class and Premium Economy seats from its retrofitted A320 family aircraft and a virtual reality journey of the state-of-the-art A350 aircraft at South Asia's Travel & Tourism Exchange (SATTE) 2025 taking place from 19 to 21 February 2025 at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre), New Delhi. Air India’s booth at the travel and tourism exhibition draws inspiration from the airline’s signature gold window frame, ‘The Vista,’ that stands out as a key design element, seamlessly combining aesthetics with immersive digital interactions. At the pavilion, Air India aims to offer its visitors an opportunity to witness the airline’s transformation journey through live demonstrations of Business Class and Premium Economy seats of the newly retrofitted A320 family aircraft. Air India currently offers Premium Economy cabins on more than eighty aircraft that are deployed on domestic and international routes. The airline has started refurbishing 27 of its legacy A320 aircraft that will be completed by mid-2025. This will see the installation of new cabins, seats, upholstery, carpets as well as the addition of Premium Economy cabins in these aircraft, thus significantly increasing the total count of aircraft in three-class configuration. The addition of Premium Economy will offer passengers the comfort of a dedicated, upscale cabin and seats with extra legroom, enhanced meals, priority services on ground, and more. “As Air India continues to make strides in its transformation journey to become a world-class global airline with an Indian heart, SATTE 2025 presents a befitting opportunity for us to showcase our premium offerings while also fostering relationships with travel industry stakeholders from across the globe. Through interactive activations and an immersive product display, we will offer visitors a glimpse of the new Air India,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India. Air India is also showcasing a Virtual Reality experience zone to bring its state-of-the-art A350 fleet closer to industry professionals and visitors. This setup will transport visitors into the premium cabins of the airline’s latest A350 aircraft, which has been strategically deployed on key international routes, including Delhi-London Heathrow, New York (JFK), and Newark. Air India’s flagship A350, with 316 seats in a three-class cabin configuration, offers wider cabins, larger windows, mood lighting, Wi-Fi connectivity onboard and advanced inflight entertainment systems, setting a new benchmark for passenger experience on airlines in India. In addition, Air India will also display a selection of in-flight meals to showcase its refreshed menus and enhanced dining experience onboard. At the pavilion, visitors will also have an opportunity to enroll in Maharaja Club, the airline’s newly revamped loyalty program offering exclusive rewards and privileges. The airline will host a raffle at the booth, where visitors can win curated gift hampers and a complimentary economy class ticket. The pavilion will allow visitors to experience the airline’s commitment to innovation and passenger comfort.

Taiwan Tourism Administration to participate in SATTE 2025

To further promote Taiwan as a premier destination for high-end and incentive travel, the Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) will once again partner with airlines, travel agencies, and cultural performance groups to participate in the 2025 South Asia Travel & Tourism Exchange (SATTE 2025, 19 - 21 Feb, 2025 at YASHOBHOOMI-India International Convention & Expo Centre in New Delhi).   The delegation comprises of 23-members from 12 organizations. The delegation will also hold Taiwan Destination Seminar and Networking sessions in New Delhi (18 Feb) and in Mumbai (24 Feb). TTA aims to strengthen partnerships with Indian travel industry professionals and to increase the number of Indian tourists to Taiwan.   According to TTA’s statistics, 34,926 Indian tourists visited Taiwan between January and November 2024, marking a 20.2% growth compared to the same period in 2023. Data from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, also highlighted the number of Indian outbound traveler reached 25,087,316 in the period January to October 2024, an 8.49% increase year-on-year. Given India’s rapid economic growth and its status as the world’s most populous country, the potential of India’s outbound tourism market is tremendous. And Taiwan is positioning itself as an attractive new destination for Indian travelers.  The Taiwan Destination Seminar and Networking sessions in New Delhi (18 Feb) and Mumbai (24 Feb) will welcome over 100 Indian travel agencies and media representatives to foster bilateral exchanges. Surveys conducted by TTA in India reveal that “scenic beauty” and “shopping” are the key motivators for Indian travelers visiting Taiwan. Taiwan’s diverse culinary scene—including its extensive vegetarian-friendly offerings—will also cater well to the dietary preferences of Indian tourists. Taiwan is also being positioned as a destination for unique experiences such as overseas weddings. Taiwan will focus on offers of luxury experiences, shopping festivals, cultural tourism, and incentive travel that are highly relevant to the Indian travel trade.    Taiwan will debut its new tourism brand, TAIWAN-Waves of Wonder, at SATTE 2025 (19-21 Feb). The Taiwan Pavilion will feature a wave-inspired design with black tones and illuminated panels showcasing Taiwan’s four-season tourism highlights. The pavilion will also highlight Taiwan’s MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism offerings, appealing to Indian businesses seeking premium travel experiences.  The Taiwan Pavilion will host interactive cultural activities to provide visitors with an immersive experience. Visitors can participate in hands-on Hakka Floral Lantern Charm DIY by Li Yang Studio, a craft symbolizing prosperity and unity. SATTE 2024 second day witnessed record participation from buyers and exhibitors

South Asia’s leading travel show SATTE 2024, organized by Informa Markets in India (IMI), commenced at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, Delhi NCR. The three-day event is being held from 22nd to 24th February 2024 and will spotlight the theme of ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Tourism’, marking its 31st edition as a pivotal milestone in the global tourism industry. On the second day, SATTE Awards was organised which is a unique initiative intended to recognize industry stake holder from across the travel, tourism and hospitality industry along with National and State Tourism Boards (NTOs and STOs). From the top players to fledgling start-ups, industry professionals strive to provide breathtaking innovative products & solutions. There is a need to recognise & reward such initiatives, that will further drive the evolution of the market, contributing to the vision of Incredible India. Speaking on the opportunities of the sector, Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director of Informa Markets – India stated: “In the light of India’s remarkable GDP growth of 7.9%, and a record per capita income of ₹2.12 lakh in FY24, the nation is poised for massive tourism expansion. With inbound tourist numbers reaching 9 million last year and an ambitious target of 12 million this year, coupled with the lucrative spiritual tourism that is expected to grow annually at over 16 per cent between in the next few years, the tourism sector is forecasted to yield a revenue of 59 billion by 2028, creating 140 million temporary and permanent jobs by 2030.” He further added in the interim budget of 2024, the government has initiated the expansion of the Vande Bharat fleet of trains to help reduce travel time, enhance the passenger experience, and accelerate tourism growth. It is also working towards developing roads for better transportation. “By 2028, international tourist arrivals are expected to reach 30.5 billion and generate revenue of over US$ 59 billion. However, domestic tourists are expected to drive the growth, post-pandemic. As per the Ministry of Tourism, Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in October 2023 were 8,11,411,” he stated. Mr. Yogesh Mudras concluded by stating, “FTAs during the period January-October 2023 were 72,43,680 as compared to 46,55,160 in January-October 2022. Over 100 countries have adopted sustainable tourism policies, showcasing a growing global commitment. The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) sets industry standards, certifying 2,500 destinations and businesses.” On the founding day at Saudi Arabia today, Alhasan Ali Aldabbagh, President – Asia Pacific, Saudi Tourism Authority, extended his regards and addressed the gathering and conveyed his enthusiasm for the inaugural day of SATTE, noting its particular significance as Saudi Arabia commemorates its Founding Day today. He highlighted the crucial role of SATTE 2024 in bolstering ties with the Indian tourism market. He emphasized, “Aligned with our 2030 vision, we aim to attract over 7.5 million Indian travelers to Saudi Arabia, positioning it as our premier source market. To achieve this, we have streamlined various aspects of the journey, including visa applications, permits, hotel accommodations, and flight bookings, for Indian travelers.”

SATTE 2024 opens amidst record participation from exhibitors and buyers

In its largest ever edition, SATTE 2024 is all set to play the crucial role of a catalyst to rejuvenate domestic, regional, inbound and outbound tourism. G Kishan Reddy inaugurates 30th edition of SATTE 2023

Grand 30th Edition of the Travel Trade Event, SATTE 2023, saw the presence of all Indian States, over 50 Countries and 600+ Hosted Buyers. The grand inauguration of the expo was held in the presence of G. K. Reddy, Minister of Tourism, Govt. of India; Louis Steven Obeegadoo, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Govt of Mauritius;  Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, Minister of Tourism, Maldives; Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture, Malaysia, Mrs. Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy Minister, Dept of Tourism, Govt. of Indonesia; Alhasan Aldabbagh, President – APAC, Saudi Tourism Authority; Madhavan Menon, Managing Director, Thomas Cook India; Subhash Goyal, Member, National Advisory Council, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, Yogesh Mudras, MD, Informa Markets – India and Pallavi Mehra, Group Director, and Publisher – T3, Informa Markets – India, amongst others. At the inaugural ceremony, Reddy said, “G20 has given us the opportunity to showcase our travel and tourism through multiple events across 56 different countries. Our culture, heritage, food, clothes, thinking, respectability and our “Athiti Devo Bhava” beliefs are what we should put forward for the tourists. We have reached 75% of the tourism we had before Covid-19. I have full belief that we will exceed our foreign tourism levels by December this year and set a record level. Domestic tourism is growing in the same way too which will make tourism a big sector in India. With this growth, India has the potential to be the number one tourist destination among all the countries, provided all stakeholders in the tourism industry work along with the government.  The government is also promoting domestic tourism by providing a platform for startups as well as big multinational companies and events like SATTE will certainly give a strong push to this industry.” Obeegadoo said: “In the light of the remarkable recovery of tourism, we are looking at 2022 as a great year of recovery and rebuilding of tourism. And I’m convinced that with all stakeholders present here, we are going to make 2023 a great year for travel. Regional tourism is key to recovery of the sector and Mauritius and India have always shared bonds of fraternity. Our purpose of coming here is to ensure that we can convert this special relationship into tourism so that the numbers of Indians crossing the Indian Ocean to the island and the number of Mauritians visiting India keep on increasing to make up for recovery in 2023 and to go far beyond in the years to come. I wish SATTE’s 30th edition all the success in building and facilitating contact, business deals and in encouraging partnerships between all citizens.” Aldabbagh said, “India is a strategic market for Saudi Arabia. Last year, we welcomed 1 billion visitors from India and are governing visitor count for 2030 too. We are very ambitious for India and will make India the number one source market for Saudi Arabia. We are committed to working with the right partner to grow your business and making Saudi one of the top destinations for India. We are delighted to showcase Saudi Arabia at this prestigious event SATTE 2023.” SATTE 2023, organised by Informa Markets in India, startedon 9th February at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, Delhi NCR, with the aim of revitalizing the country’s travel industry business. Spanning over three days from Feb 9th-11th, the event has been conceptualized around the theme ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Tourism’. This year, SATTE celebrated 30 years and is expected to host more than 30,000 attendees. The expo has received widespread acclaim from the industry, including support from various entities such as the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Indian and International Tourism Boards, global travel trade bodies, airlines, hotels, wellness resorts, cruises, theme parks, cinema locales, corporate travel, investors, and wedding planners amongst others.
