Nujuma, a Ritz Carlton Reserve opens its doors at The Red Sea

The Red Sea, a luxury tourism destination situated on the west coast of Saudi Arabia, has  recently announced the opening of its third resort, Nujuma, A Ritz Carlton Reserve. Inspired  by the word Nujum, meaning ‘stars’ in Arabic, Nujuma invites travellers to embark on an  unchartered journey to one of the world's most secluded and protected archipelagos.  “No other destination offers desert landscapes connected directly to picturesque marine  environments at the scale and beauty of The Red Sea. Guests arriving at Nujuma will be  among the first to explore this one-of-a-kind, diverse and culturally rich region,” said John  Pagano, Group CEO at Red Sea Global, the developer of The Red Sea.  “Our guests can start the day with a sunrise hike through mountains and canyons, followed  by lunch on a pristine, secluded island and an afternoon of relaxing spa treatments. In the  evening, they can unwind under our magnificent dark skies and hear stories of ancient  pilgrims and traders who once walked these shores, guided by these same stars.”  Designed by Foster and Partners, Nujuma’s sweeping shell-inspired architecture and  elegant interiors are crafted with natural materials imbued with calming sea and sand tones,  and geometric patterns reminiscent of the region’s design motifs. Arabic artifacts,  traditional ceramics, woven Saudi patterned rugs and intricate wall hangings celebrating  local craftmanship flow through the canopied interiors. Lush landscaping of indigenous  plants elegantly frames the pathways between the pavilioned spaces and villas.  The island’s shores are fringed by rich mangroves, known to be one of the most productive  ecosystems in the world, and within this lush habitat visitors can spot a variety of sea birds,  marine invertebrates and halavi guitarfish. Beyond the turquoise waters, guests can  discover the beauty of the coastal mainland through guided trails across majestic desert  dunes.   Jenni Benzaquen, SVP and Global Brand Leader, The Ritz-Carlton and The St. Regis Hotels  & Resorts, said:“Nujuma is the seventh Reserve to join a collection of rare estates worldwide  and invites travellers to embark on a journey of exploration where every encounter reveals  a deeper connection to the destination. I cannot wait for guests to discover this luxurious  private sanctuary for a truly transformative experience.”  Accessed by chartered boat or seaplane, Nujuma features 63 overwater and beach villas,  offering one-to-three-bedroom accommodation, spacious living areas and private pools  overlooking the sea. Guests can marvel at the limitless starry night skies from the comfort  of their villa through telescopes positioned on each deck.  Perched above the cerulean-blue sea and connected by an elevated ring walkway, the  overwater villas offer panoramic views and direct access to the sea. Nestled on undisturbed  soft white sand, the beach villas are secluded retreats flooded with natural light and the  sea’s refreshing breeze. Each villa enjoys the services of a dedicated personal host, who will  take care of every detail and guide guests through all the enriching experiences this  destination has to offer.   The Red Sea is carefully designed to cater to affluent travellers, from honeymooners and adventure seekers to wellness enthusiasts, families, and more. The destination is at the forefront of the global transition towards regenerative tourism – going beyond  sustainability to have a regenerative impact on the environment, society, and the  economy.  This includes being off-grid, powered by sunlight day and night, made possible by  760,000 solar panels and one of the world’s largest battery storage facilities at 1,300  MWh. More than five million plants, shrubs and trees have been grown to not only  beautify the destination, but also create new thriving habitats, as well as an additional  three million mangrove seedlings against an ambitious target of 50 million by 2030.  “The Red Sea is a truly extraordinary destination, made all the more remarkable because  we have chosen to develop and operate it with regeneration at the core. This means by  visiting The Red Sea, our guests are playing an active role in protecting and enhancing the  destination when they choose us,” added Pagano.  Last year, The Red Sea welcomed its first guests with Six Senses Southern Dunes, The Red  Sea, followed by The St Regis Red Sea Resort. The Red Sea International Airport (RSI) has  been receiving a regular schedule of domestic flights since September 2023 and  international flights began in April 2024, marking the start of a new twice-weekly route  between The Red Sea and Dubai.  Upon full completion in 2030, the destination will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000  hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland  sites. The destination will also include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, F&B, and  leisure facilities.

Ritz Carlton Second Yacht Ilma Floats Out

The next Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection superyacht, Ilma, floated out of the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, marking a significant construction stage. Senior leadership and shipbuilders gathered for this nautical ritual in preparation for Ilma’s first contact with water, marking the beginning of the next construction phase before her maiden voyage in 2024. Jim Murren, Executive Chairman and CEO, and Ernesto Fara, President and CFO, were present at the float-out celebration hosted by The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. Laurent Castaing, General Manager, and Arnaud Le Joncour, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, both from Chantiers de l’Atlantique, were present as well. The yacht’s dry dock was filled with water as part of the float out, and the vessel was relocated to an outfitting dock, where it will remain until sea trials in April and the start of its inaugural season. Now that the ship has been launched, the last phase of the construction will focus on finishing the staterooms, restaurants, and other public areas so that guests may go on a new voyage of discovery at sea in a little over a year. “As we mark this remarkable achievement, we are immensely proud of the dedication and craftsmanship by all those involved in the construction of Ilma,” said Jim Murren, Executive Chairman and CEO of The Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection. To grow our fleet and our ambition within the ultra-luxury category, we are overjoyed to have teamed with the team at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, and we look forward to moving into the next stage of building and outfitting in preparation for the yacht’s debut cruise next year.” The second newly built superyacht from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection will be named Ilma, which means “water” in Maltese. The yacht will be 790 feet long and have 224 spacious, light-filled staterooms with private decks, with the capacity to host 448 guests. The Ritz-Carlton’s dedication to pioneering new forms of luxury travel is exemplified by this brand expansion, which ushers in a groundbreaking unique style of vacationing on the high seas. With one of the greatest space ratios at sea, Ilma’s luxurious public areas will set the stage for an unforgettable cruise. State-of-the-art technology, five unique dining locations, and a Ritz-Carlton Spa® are just a few examples of how the onboard experience will mirror the extraordinary lifestyle and renowned service for which The Ritz-Carlton brand is known. Ilma will join the company’s first yacht, Evrima, in visiting the most sought-after locations in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, with select ports of call in Central America and South America, depending on the season, and delivering carefully designed itineraries and extraordinary adventures for guests. “We are thrilled to see Ilma’s float out. “Ilma embodies Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s commitment to ultra-luxury,” said Arnaud Le Joncour. “This milestone marks the beginning of the next phase of outfitting construction.” Our teams are united to meet the expectations of today’s most discerning luxury travellers, drawing inspiration from Ilma’s elegance, clean lines, and unique features.”

Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection begins construction of new vessel

With a keel-laying ceremony, the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection celebrated a significant milestone at the world-renowned shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France. The keel-laying ceremony, a long-standing nautical custom, marks the formal start of construction by lowering the first modular block of Ilma into the building dock. “We are thrilled to celebrate this remarkable milestone and to partner with Chantiers de l’Atlantique on the construction of Ilma,” said Douglas Prothero, Chief Executive Officer of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. “We look forwards to continuing to provide unique experiences that highlight the yachting lifestyle and are redefining the luxury cruising market as we expand our fleet.” Ilma, which means “water” in Maltese, will be The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s second boat, set to launch in 2024. The custom-built superyacht will have the highest space and staff-to-guest ratios in the luxury cruise category. Ilma will be 790 feet long, with the largest ratio of space per guest at sea. The ship will have 228 airy, light-filled suites, all with their own terraces. Five restaurants, six bars, and a wine vault offer culinary experiences to suit all tastes. The ship’s aft Deck features spacious areas where you can dine alfresco while admiring the seascapes or engage in water sports from the vessel. The onboard experience will mirror the famed comfort and service for which The Ritz-Carlton brand is known. It will be the first yacht in the collection to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a fuel source, further establishing its status. The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is an industry pioneer. “Chantiers de l’Atlantique is very proud of its partnership with The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection,” said Arnaud Le Joncour, Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing. “With this ceremony, we wish Ilma the greatest success throughout construction, knowing that the vessel’s elegant design, elevated materials, and environmental performance will position Ilma as a legendary symbol in a new era of luxury cruising.” Luminara, the line’s third ship, will be delivered in 2025 by Chantiers de l’Atlantique. Almaco will outfit the galley facilities onboard the Ilma and Luminara, while ABB will provide the electric propulsion systems and remote support.
