Traveller Made taking luxury travel event across three continents – from Phuket to Panama to Sardinia
With the first of its three Essence of Luxury events for the year having taken place in Thailand's Phuket in March, Traveller Made is gearing up for the second event coming up in May in Panama and third event in Sardinia in September. In 2024 the company reimagined its annual Essence of Luxury flagship event that's been held in Marbella since 2019 into three regional events across three continents - one in Asia, one in the Americas and one in Europe. Following on from the Essence of Phuket event, the Essence of Panama is set for 12-16 May 2025 and Essence of Sardinia for 22-26 September 2025. The decision to move the Essence of Luxury show beyond Europe represents the luxury travel network's global expansion. "We are now the most international luxury travel network" said Traveller Made founder and president Quentin Desurmont. "We're not the biggest. We're not into size, we're into top quality." Committed to a 'small and beautiful' approach, the network now has some 570 member agencies in its Serandipians community and is quickly approaching its target of 600 agencies. The focus is on North America to get the remaining 30 or so. Its Takumians community meanwhile, which was launched in 2024 with Serandipians nearly at member capacity, already has over 80 agencies. As 'luxury travel designers', these member agencies are in 77 countries. A balanced spread sees 39 percent of them in Europe, 35 percent in Asia and 25 percent in the Americas. In a world where "everybody says they do luxury", Serandiapians and Takumians is the seal of quality, explained Desurmont. "We organize unexpected, life changing moments and create serendipitous moments for clients. It's about tailormade travel creation that's on demand, personalized and luxury, very high end." Thus the naming of Serandipians, while Takumians was inspired by Master Takumi which in Japan is the highest level of artisanship. As a luxury travel network, Serandipians and Takumians are connected with partner luxury travel and hospitality suppliers around the world such as hotels and resorts, private villas, destination management companies, private yacht and jet operators and brokers, and tourism boards. The Essence of Phuket event was held at SAii Laguna Phuket over 3-7 March 2025, the idyllic resort nestled along Bang Tao Beach within the iconic Laguna Phuket complex. SAii Laguna Phuket and Santiburi Koh Samui - two flagship properties of S Hotels & Resorts - are among the Serandipians partner hotels in Thailand. The event was an opportunity for member agencies from around the world to engage with regional partner suppliers in networking, knowledge sharing and celebrating excellence in the luxury travel sector. The event programme included the Master Designers and Crafters conference at Banyan Tree Phuket focusing on emerging trends and innovations in luxury travel, pre-scheduled one-to-one meetings, the Idolons award ceremony recognising outstanding members of the Serandipians and Takumians communities for their contributions to the luxury travel industry, and some fantastic social events for relaxed, high-level networking.

C9 report shows surge in residential-driven hospitality investments in Phuket
C9 Hotelworks’ latest report shows that Thailand’s tourism boom has led to greater investments into the hospitality real estate sector, particularly for residential developments. According to the report presented at the most recent C9 Sessions event, many foreign travellers are opting to stay longer in the country, hence increased residential-driven investments into the Thai hospitality and real estate sectors. Phuket is the province that is benefitting the most from this, as arrivals continue to flock to the destination and the numbers are up by 23 percent as of 2024. The C9 report shows that the emergent trend is focussed on the rental market, a sector that has seen a significant surge in investments into resort-inspired condominium developments in prime locations. C9 Hotelworks managing director Bill Barnett opines: “The shift we are seeing is that tourism is driving a long-stay rental market on the island. This is the destination’s marketing funnel for a residential-led hospitality market and regional buyers from Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong are leading the way.” Key findings C9 Hotelworks’ report reveals that for the equivalent price of a two-bedroom condo in Singapore, investors can snap up a five-bedroom pool villa in Phuket, while a luxury car is approximately 60 percent less expensive in Thailand. For families, international school fees are, on average, 42 percent lower in Phuket than in Singapore. With high taxation and stamp duty on second homes in Singapore, and almost 150 weekly flights now operating the two-hour hop between Singapore and Phuket, the advantages of resettlement or investment on the shores of the Andaman Sea are clear. Barnett said of this: “Our forecast is that global and regional migration trends are going to continue to fuel growth in investment properties. In a volatile marketplace, investment flight to Thailand as a safe haven is an attractive long-term proposition with people looking for recurring yields and stabilised returns from long term rentals.” Resort-inspired developments are the trend The surge in interest in lifestyle investments is not lost on some of the island’s most successful developers. In fact, Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong (LKF) Group, famed for its Andara Resort & Villas development in Kamala, is launching a sister brand, Sudara, in the hot spot beach district of Bangtao. Dr Allan Zeman, founder and chairman of the LKF Group, said: “Our Thai investment story started with Andara and we have now come full circle. We went from property to hospitality and now back to residential with Sudara. We see Thailand’s tourism momentum as a key catalyst for growth to capture the two synergies of hospitality and residential and the increase in regional buyers are playing a key role in our success.” Phuket is experiencing strong demand from Asian buyers, particularly in Hong Kong, where the LKF Group is headquartered. Sudara Residences Phuket reports that most regional sales come from Asia-based locals and expatriates, driven by factors such as affordability and accessibility. The new development is a prime example of the new generation of resort-style projects attracting regional buyers looking for lifestyle options and rental returns. It offers 220 bright one- to three-bedroom residences ranging from 52 to 144 square metres in size, including options with private pools. Sudara’s main clubhouse, the Pavilion, features outdoor pools, an alfresco lounge with cabanas, a kids’ club, fitness centre, Silk Café, yoga space, and co-working areas, all supported by management and concierge services from the ultra-luxury Andara Resort & Villas. The project expects to be completed by 2027.

TCEB launches “The Southern MICE District Phuket Series” project
Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) launches The Southern MICE District: Phuket Series project, piloting Phuket province as a model for developing a MICE economic district that will help stimulate the regional economy and add value to the MICE area under the 3S strategy - Spend more, Stay longer, See you again to attract MICE travellers to spend more, stay longer and return. Pattanachai Singhawara, Director of the Southern Convention and Exhibition Bureau, TCEB, said: “Currently, the MICE industry is changing rapidly in terms of products, services, and areas suitable for organizing events. MICE travellers need more comprehensive and specific experiences. The Southern MICE District project is an extension of the MICE city development strategy from the Southern City DNA or Destination Development, which focuses on developing infrastructure and services that meet the needs of the MICE market to increase Thailand’s competitiveness in the global MICE market, especially Phuket, which is the MICE hub of the South and has high potential to attract MICE travellers. Therefore, TCEB has developed the Southern MICE District: Phuket Series project to provide more options for MICE travellers and stimulate the local economy. This project elevates Phuket to become a model for regional MICE development.” The Southern MICE District: Phuket Series project is a prototype of a regional MICE economic district, consisting of 4 creative MICE districts: The Old Town, The North Wind, The Lagoon and The South Shore, which present the charm of Phuket through history, culture, community lifestyle, food, accommodation and nature. In addition, TCEB is preparing a plan to expand this project to other southern provinces, such as Songkhla and Surat Thani, to create economic opportunities and elevate the Thai MICE industry to an international level. In addition, this project is designed to help increase spending and meet the needs of MICE travellers through the creation of a variety of experiences, ranging from premium accommodation, unique local restaurants, business and leisure activity packages to infrastructure that facilitates attendees. In addition, the development of the MICE District will meet the needs of MICE travellers who are looking for unique event venues, one-stop services, and privileges that are worthwhile for business and tourism investment. In order to stimulate spending, The MICE Industry (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) is an important mechanism for driving the country's economy, generating income for local communities and entrepreneurs, as well as enhancing Thailand's image as an international conference and exhibition center. In the past, TCEB has implemented the MICE City project in important provinces, including Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Surat Thani, Phuket, and Songkhla, helping to distribute income to local areas and opening up opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs to better compete in the international MICE market. Sarita Jintakanon, TCEB’s expert, added that “TCEB has collaborated with Visa, the digital payment provider, to launch the Thailand MICE Visa Prepaid Card, designed for both international and Thai business travellers, including SME entrepreneurs, to provide various privileges to these travellers, including restaurants, shopping, hotels, airline tickets, limousine services, spas, luggage storage or delivery services at the airport, transportation services, travel, and special privileges from event venues, to provide a good experience for MICE travellers. The marketing strategy for 2025 of the Thailand MICE Visa Prepaid Card will cover major MICE cities, with Phuket being the MICE hub of the South and having high potential. The strategy focuses on expanding the number of cardholders and stimulating spending in the region. In 2025, TCEB aims to have 30,000 cardholders, with spending per person per trip of MICE travellers increasing by approximately 5%.” “The Southern MICE District: Phuket Series project will make Phuket a model for regional MICE district development that will not only create added value for the Thai economy, but also help elevate the MICE industry to world-class standards and drive the Thai MICE industry to achieve its set goals in 2025, which will see a total of 34 million Thai and international MICE travellers, generating 200 billion baht in revenue for the country,” concluded Pattanachai.
