Emirates’ flagship A380 returns to Narita, Japan

Emirates, is upgrading capacity on its Narita-Dubai route with the deployment of its flagship A380 from 15 November, as Japan scraps the daily arrival cap, and lifts the COVID-19 testing and self-quarantine protocols for inbound travel. Following the Japanese government’s announcement last month to ease the entry restrictions, Emirates has seen a spike in bookings for flights to its gateways - Narita and Osaka. Emirates’ flight EK318 from Dubai will depart at 2:55hrs and arrive in Narita at 17:20hrs. The return flight EK319 from Narita will depart at 22:30hrs and arrive in Dubai at 5:30hrs the following day. All times are local. The reintroduction of the Emirates A380 to Narita also underscores the airline’s long-standing commitment to Japan’s tourism and travel sector. By providing more capacity, the airline aims to serve the pent-up demand for travel into Japan along with providing choice and flexibility for travellers through its daily service to Osaka EK316/317, operated by the Boeing 777. This year, Emirates is celebrating two decades of successful operations to Osaka’s Kansai International Airport. Emirates was the first airline to establish air connectivity between Japan and the UAE, as well as the rest of the Arabian Gulf countries back in 2002. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the airline continued to contribute to the local community by transporting essential air cargo between Japan and other global markets, which also helped to maintain the trade links that were needed during the unprecedented times via its Dubai hub. Leisure travellers from over 60 countries can now travel to Japan visa-free and without guided tours. However, travellers must still check the entry requirements. Tickets can be booked on emirates.com, the Emirates App, or via travel agents. The Emirates A380 experience remains highly sought after by travellers offering 14 First Class suites and 76 lie-flat seats in Business Class. Customers travelling to and from Narita can look forward to enjoying its spacious and comfortable cabins, signature products that offer travellers the best experiences in the sky like the Onboard Lounge, First Class suites, Shower Spa and an award-winning inflight entertainment system that includes more than 5,000 channels of on-demand entertainment. Narita International installs ‘state of the art people screening’ after national directive

Smiths Detection, a global leader in threat detection systems, has been selected to supply innovative solutions for people screening and search functions in Tokyo’s Narita International Airport. Narita has chosen to install 13 of Smiths Detection’s eqo portals following a national directive from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) to upgrade checkpoint security to comply with the latest international standards. Using unique, flat-panel millimetre-wave technology, eqo offers state-of-the-art people screening detection capability with a minimal footprint. It allows checkpoints to evolve from mechanical screening to electronically steered technology, offering better image quality and system reliability. As a result, this reliable and easily serviceable system helps to reduce the burden of security screening in airports. “More than 20 million visitors  entered Japan last year and this number is expected to increase due to the Rugby World Cup in 2019 and Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic games in 2020” commented Nathan Manzi, vice president of Asia Pacific at Smiths Detection. “For this reason, Japan’s international airports are seeking to increase and strengthen the effectiveness of the security process while ensuring that passengers move quickly and seamlessly through them. Narita selected our eqo solution as it offers a small footprint and the highest passenger throughput comparable to alternative products in the market.” By implementing the system, airports have a rapid means of detecting concealed objects using the system’s real-time automated detection interface. eqo’s multi-material detection abilities help to reveal any concealed objects, such as metals, liquids and narcotics, which can compromise aircraft  safety. Plus it can be easily integrated into existing checkpoints without requiring major alterations to standard layouts and operations.

Air India to operate daily flights to Tokyo Haneda from 15 June 2025

Air India announced the expansion of its non-stop service between Delhi and Tokyo Haneda, increasing from 4x weekly flights to daily flights, starting 15 June 2025. This enhancement strengthens connectivity between India and Japan, offering greater convenience for travellers and supporting growing trade and tourism between the two countries. This move builds on Air India’s recent shift to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (from Narita) on 31 March 2025, which reduced travel time to Tokyo Station to approximately 30 minutes. The daily flights, operated with Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, provide passengers with faster access to central Tokyo, as Haneda Airport is just 18 km from downtown Tokyo. “Expanding our Delhi-Tokyo Haneda service to daily flights reflects Air India’s commitment to meeting the rising demand for travel between India and Japan,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India. “This daily service, combined with our deepened codeshare partnership with All Nippon Airways, makes it easier for our guests to explore Japan and connect conveniently to other destinations in the country beyond Tokyo.” Through Air India’s expanded codeshare with Star Alliance partner All Nippon Airways (ANA), Air India guests can conveniently connect from Tokyo Haneda to six major Japanese cities—Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka, and Sapporo—on a single ticket with baggage checked through to their final destination. The daily flights enable seamless connections to domestic Indian destinations like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Pune, as well as international routes across Asia and Europe. The updated flight schedule, effective 15 June 2025, is as follows: AI358: Departs Delhi (DEL) at 2020 Hrs, arrives Tokyo Haneda (HND) at 0755 Hrs next day (daily). AI357: Departs Tokyo Haneda (HND) at 1150 Hrs, arrives Delhi (DEL) at 1725 Hrs (daily).
