Batik Air launched! Malindo Air has a new name
Malindo Air, a Malaysian-based regional airline, has been officially rebranded as Batik Air. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has granted a new Air Operators Certificate (AOC) to Malindo Airways to do business as Batik Air. The rebranding exercise is in line with the Lion Group’s goal to establish a common identity for the full service airlines within the group. With this approval in place, Batik Air now will be able to conduct improved business for seamless transfers, leveraging Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as a transit hub for the Lion Group of Airlines. “With the rebranding exercise and the reopening of the borders taking place in the region, we are very excited for the opportunities presented to us for the potential growth of our airline and with the new brand, we will be able to offer fresh and new services,” said Capt. Mushafiz Bin Mustafa Bakri, CEO, Batik Air. The exercise will be conducted in phases and Batik Air will communicate to its passengers and partners progressively during the rollout. With the reopening of borders and the gradual improvement in the demand for travel, Batik Air will be adding a number of B737 aircraft to its existing fleet to offer services to the markets operated prior to the outbreak of the pandemic.

Malindo Air launches debut international connection to Silangit, Indonesia
Delegates from Malindo Air, Silangit Airport and Lake Toba Tourism Authority at the launch ceremony Malaysia's premium airline, Malindo Air, has launched a direct international connection to Silangit International Airport, a gateway to the world’s largest volcanic lake located in Indonesia. On 17 August 2018, the first direct international flight from Subang Skypark, Malaysia to Silangit, Indonesia touched down at Silangit International Airport. It received a welcome via a waiter cannon salute, with their 72 passengers greeted by a traditional dance performance and receiving traditional scarves as a souvenir. “The main gateway to Lake Toba” Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Malindo Air, said: “We are very excited to be the first airline that started a direct international connection to Silangit, the main gateway to Lake Toba. With this new connection, we provide easy access and hassle-free travel experience at the city airport. This will encourage new and return travellers to visit Lake Toba, which will promote the tourism development and benefit the local economy as well. “We will continue to explore more opportunities for direct connections from Subang to Indonesia. The departure from Subang Skypark is more cost-effective, especially with the 15kg baggage allowance that we offer.” Lake Toba is the largest lake in Indonesia and the largest volcanic lake in the world. The lake is about 62 miles long and 19 miles wide and up to 500 metres deep. Malindo Air welcomes world’s first Boeing 737 MAX
The new Boeing 737 MAX features the Batik Malaysia livery Malaysia's Malindo Air continued to expand and modernise its fleet this week with the delivery of its first ever Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The new jet, a 737 MAX 8 model, was handed over to Malindo at Boeing's factory in Seattle. This will make the Asian carrier the first airline in the world to put the 737 MAX into commercial service. The 737 MAX is the fuel-efficient successor to the popular single-aisle 737 series, which is the backbone of many airlines' fleets. The Malindo delivery marks the first from a huge order for 201 737 MAXs placed by the Lion Air Group in 2012. Malindo will initially welcome eight of these new aircraft, painted with the airline’s new livery and brand name, Batik Malaysia. “This airplane will change the face of the single-aisle market,” said Boeing's commercial president & CEO, Kevin McAllister. “The 737 MAX 8 is the best in its class, providing unmatched performance and economics for our airline customers.” Malindo currently operates a fleet of 43 aircraft, including 20 standard 737-800s and six larger 737-900s. “We are thrilled to partner with Boeing to take the delivery of the world’s first Boeing 737 MAX,” said Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Malindo Air. “The Boeing 737 fleet has served Malindo well in its growth and we believe that the 737 MAX will become the centrepiece of our fleet. These new aircraft will allow us to go to further destinations and will play a key role in providing lower air fares to our customers.” The 737 MAX series incorporates new engines and a series of aerodynamic enhancements, the most noticeable of which are the "split tip" wing extensions. These will make the aircraft more fuel-efficient and therefore cheaper to operate than the standard 737, and will allow Boeing to compete with Airbus’ new A320neo, which entered service in early 2016. The 737 MAX is the fastest-selling aircraft in Boeing’s history, having racked up 3,700 orders. Aside from Lion Air, major airline customers include India's SpiceJet (205 aircraft), US-based Southwest Airlines (200) and Norwegian (108).
