Jakarta to host first-ever Wonderful Indonesia Tourism Fair
Jakarta welcomes travel professionals from around the world this October as it hosts the country’s first-ever business-to-business (B2B) tourism event, the Wonderful Indonesia Tourism Fair (WITF), from 2 to 4 October 2024. The fair will be staged at Swissotel Jakarta PIK Avenue, a strategic location as it is in Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) which is currently being touted as a major urban tourist destination. Also, PIK offers easy access from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, and is home to extensive businesses, entertainment, and event facilities. WITF will be held simultaneously with the Southeast Asia Business Event Forum (SEABEFF) which is centred on the MICE sector. Who’s behind the event? WITF 2024 is entirely self-funded and owned by the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI) with support and endorsement from the country’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. The event also banks upon GIPI’s current network which includes nearly 40 domestic tourism sector organisations, as well as local government officials, and a slew of travel-related enterprises. Invitees to the event will be determined by a nine-member committee made up of industry veterans who will opt for participants playing an active role in promoting Southeast Asian destinations, particularly those in Indonesia.
TransNusa successfully launches maiden Jakarta-Subang flight
TransNusa successfully launched its maiden Jakarta - Subang flight on 1 August providing an alternate route to Kuala Lumpur. Currently, TranNusa is the only airline offering the Jakarta-Subang route to Malaysia, enabling passengers to enjoy shorter travel time for either business or leisure visits to Kuala Lumpur. TransNusa’s inaugural flight from Jakarta departed the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from Terminal 3 at 11.00 am and arrived at Subang Airport at 02.00 pm on August 1, 2024. TransNusa Group CEO Bernard Francis said: “We are honoured and thrilled to successfully launch our new scheduled Jakarta – Subang route. This route allows passengers from Subang Airport to reach Kuala Lumpur in a mere 19 to 20 minutes by car with only 23km between the two locations.” Francis clarified that although TransNusa has launched this new route, the airline would still continue to operate three scheduled daily flights from Jakarta to KLIA and four scheduled flights weekly from Jakarta to Johor Bahru. One flight a day Francis added that TransNusa will be operating one daily scheduled flight from Terminal 3, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Subang Airport. The flight, 8B 699, leaves Jakarta at 04.10 pm, arriving at the Subang Airport at 07.00 pm while TransNusa flight, 8B 698, flies out of Subang Airport at 07.30pm to arrive in Jakarta at 08.30pm. The airline utilises its A320 narrow-body airliner, which has 174 seats, to cater for the two-hour scheduled flight. A good choice The Malaysian Aviation Commission chose Jakarta-based TransNusa as one of the two foreign airlines to fly from the historic Subang International Airport. The Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, popularly known as Subang Airport, served as Malaysia’s international airport from 1965 to 1998, after which the operations were transferred to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). However, since early 2000, airlines have been requesting for approval to utilise the Subang Airport to cater for scheduled domestic and Asean flights due to the airport’s strategic location.
