Honolulu Airport selects SITA Smart Path for biometric-enabled U.S. Exit
Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) has become the latest airport in the United States (U.S.) to adopt SITA’s biometric-enabled SITA Smart Path to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in fulfilling its congressional mandate for biometric passenger screening on exit from the U.S. SITA has implemented 54 face pods across Terminals 1 and 2 which are available to all international passengers. The technology provides travelers with a touchless process that further secures and streamlines international departures. If a traveler cannot be matched to a photo on record through Biometric Exit or chooses to opt out of the process, the traveler will proceed through the traditional inspection process consistent with existing requirements for departure from the U.S. With international travel recovering rapidly, SITA’s solution makes the screening process for departing international travelers more efficient. Using SITA’s Smart Path solution powered by NEC’s world-class biometric face capture solution, passengers step up to a camera at the boarding gate to verify their identity and board in seconds. With over 600 biometric touchpoints deployed across the US – including at Miami, Orlando, and San Francisco airports – SITA Smart Path has a proven 99.5% match rate. Travelers’ identities are confirmed by comparing a live photo to images the traveler has already provided to the government, such as passport and visa photos, all in a matter of seconds. Edwin Sniffen, Director of the Hawaii Department of Transportation, said: “We are thrilled to announce our adoption of the U.S. Exit Solution in partnership with SITA. This solution will help us support CBP’s congressional mandate while making the experience fast and efficient for our customers.” Matthys Serfontein, SITA President for the Americas, said: “We have worked closely with the Hawaii Department of Transportation to support CBP’s mandate for biometric screening on exit. We are confident that SITA’s US Exit will greatly enhance the passenger experience at HNL while laying the foundation for an extended biometric passenger experience in the future.” Jason Van Sice, NEC Corporation of America – Vice President of Aviation, said: “On behalf of NEC, we are excited to support aviation advancements in Hawaii in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and SITA. Together, SITA and NEC have consistently demonstrated our expertise in similar projects worldwide, highlighting how our joint automation capabilities can elevate customer experiences (CX), enhance operational efficiency, and increase security measures.” HNL is the largest airport in Hawaii, serving 21 airlines and over 18 million departing passengers annually.
Qantas Suspend Flights Between Honolulu And Sydney
Qantas will suspend all flights to Honolulu for the next two months while it adjusts its schedule and decreases capacity — the number of seats in the air – “to better match travel demand in light of the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases.” The popular QF103/QF104 service between Sydney and Honolulu, which restarted on December 20, 2021, as part of the ‘second wave’ of Qantas’ international revival, has been operating four times a week on an Airbus A330 while Australians sought a summer vacation break in Hawaii. A spokesman for Qantas confirmed to Executive Traveller that they would stop their Sydney-Honolulu from January 31 to March 26. “Impacted customers can rebook to the next available Qantas, Jetstar, or Hawaiian Airlines operated flight,” the airline says. “Alternatively, they can choose a flight credit or a refund. Customers won’t be charged any change or cancellation fees.” Travellers who want to visit Honolulu will find Hawaiian Airlines the ideal option. Hawaii’s home carrier resumed Sydney-Honolulu operations on December 15 2021 and aims to maintain four weekly flights between Sydney and Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines offers connecting flights across the tropical island cluster and 16 additional destinations on the US mainland from its Honolulu hub. Source: Executive Traveller

The music week is an exciting, three-day event that brings together local musicians from Hawaii and global artists to share music from their respective cultures and strengthen bonds between the performers and attendees. “ANA has contributed to several community service initiatives in Hawaii, such as beach clean-ups, green transportation, reforestation initiatives and we hope this event will benefit the local community,” said Takashi Shiki, senior executive vice president of ANA. “We want to bring global artists and musicians from Hawaii and Japan together to create an event that helps people connect and share diverse, cultural experiences.” Starting from 1 September, ANA will promote the event with a 30-second commercial that will be shown on all ANA flights to and from Hawaii.
Three Favorite Honolulu Resorts
Hawaii is a favorite travel destination, and while there are a number of islands to choose from, when it comes to direct flights and convenience, Oahu, home to Honolulu, is the obvious choice. It’s also home to famed Waikiki Beach, a fabulous restaurant scene and some swanky hotels, like three of our favorites, featured here.1. Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko OlinaOutside Honolulu and Waikiki Beach, but still accessible, the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina is on Oahu's calm leeward coast. The 642-acre beachfront property (formerly a JW Marriot) features 371 light-filled rooms and suites, five restaurants and lounges, four swimming pools (two, including one infinity-edged one, are adult only), tennis courts, a multi-level spa with lap pool and a golf club. Rooms are done up in modern Hawaiiana style, with local woods and banana-leaf wall coverings; they all come with a lanai, and face the ocean or a lagoon. For something indulgent, book the sprawling 3,200-sq-ft, 2-bedroom Penthouse Suite with a massive 800-sq-ft sea facing terrace and wrap-around decks that lend a truly dramatic feel and views of the entire coastline. Dining options range from a line-to-table seafood restaurant and a wood-fired pizza and Italian restaurant. This hotel is also a popular family choice.2. Halekulani HotelWe love that nearly all the suites come with full or partial ocean views at the Halekulani Hotel, which is just the right mix of stylish and fun. The Waikiki Beach-front property is under a 15-minute walk from downtown, and the stretch of beach it's located on is relatively void of development (by Waikiki standards), creating a more private vibe. Décor is simple but sophisticated with quilted, cream-hued comforters and wooden furnishes. For the most space, book the Diamond Head suites, which are up to 1,000-sq-ft and come with private lanais. The oval swimming pool is quite impressive thanks to 1.2 million glass tiles that create a Cattleya orchid pattern on its bottom. There are a few house restaurant choices including La Mer for upscale French at dinner and beach-fronting Orchids for an excellent brunch. The traditional afternoon tea served on the Verandah is a Halekulani tradition. 3. Ritz-Carlton Residences, Waikiki BeachPart hotel, part private residences, the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Waikiki Beach is a beyond elegant property. The hotel portion of the tower property begins on the eighth-floor where guests are greeted with ocean views and an impressive Hermes-leather inspired front desk. Also on a long terrace perched off this floor is our favorite feature, the long skinny infinity pool and Jacuzzi, complete with sun loungers and private cabanas and awesome views. Rooms are the usual Ritz quality with comfortable beds, ocean views and kitchenettes. The marble baths feature separate soaking tubs. Note the Ritz is not directly on the beach – it's a five minute walk. There are three excellent onsite restaurants, including Hawaii's debut locations of Dean & DeLuca and and the stellar Sushi Sho, as well as established hotspot BLT Market. There is also a spa.
Philippine Airlines to explore codeshare agreement with Alaska Airlines
Philippine flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced it will be exploring a codeshare agreement with Seattle-based Alaska Airlines as of Friday, 2nd May. The potential codeshare arrangements are expected to cover key cities in both airlines’ networks, further enhancing connectivity and offering travelers more convenient options in flying between the Philippines and the United States. PAL passengers will gain greater access to a wide range of US destinations that are part of Alaska Airlines’ extensive domestic network.” Redeeming miles on two networks Exploring the codeshare deal comes as both carriers inked a partnership that will soon allow their passengers to fully avail of their respective loyalty programmes The PAL-Alaska Airlines collaboration will soon allow members of both airlines' loyalty programmes to earn and redeem miles across each other's networks, providing greater flexibility and rewards for travelers when the tie-up takes effect in the coming months. PAL vice-president for marketing Alvin Miranda said of this: “We are proud to partner with Alaska Airlines to deliver even greater value to our Mabuhay Miles members. This strategic collaboration significantly expands our network and flight options, enabling our Mabuhay Miles members to enjoy enhanced connectivity and flexibility in how and where they use their miles.” For his part, Alaska Airlines’ chief commercial officer Andrew Harrison remarked that PAL is a terrific addition to its roster of global airlines offering world-class service and amenities. Harrison said: “The large Filipino communities living in Hawaii, California and Washington state can travel on Philippine Airlines’ long-haul, widebody aircraft and soon earn valuable Mileage Plan miles on their transpacific journeys.” The frequent flyer collaboration will also enhance the existing partnership between PAL and Hawaiian Airlines, another member of the Alaska Airlines Group. In addition to PAL continuing to offer Hawaiian codeshare flights to Maui, Hilo, Kona, and Lihue via Honolulu, Hawaiian Airlines flyers will soon be able to earn and redeem miles on Philippine Airlines when they use their Mileage Plan number.
