One Year in Dubai: Eurowings enhances services to the Gulf Metropolis
German airline Eurowings is significantly expanding its direct flight offering to Dubai. Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings, announced over the weekend a doubling of capacity for the Winter 2024/25 flight schedule. “Dubai, with its futuristic skyline, is not only a vibrant business hub but also a magnet for more and more leisure travelers. With our value offer, you can experience the exciting mix of winter sun, desert sands, and skyscrapers without a layover and at very attractive prices,” said Bischof at an event with tourism experts in the Emirate. Bischof also presented a major expansion of Eurowings' offering: starting October 27, 2024, Dubai will be connected daily and nonstop with the German capital, Berlin (currently 4 times per week). From Stuttgart, there will be up to four weekly flights (currently 2 times per week). Additionally, Cologne/Bonn will become the third German departure airport, with Eurowings operating three weekly nonstop flights from the Rhineland to Dubai using Airbus A320neo aircraft. Direct Flights with New Service Additions The Dubai product with entry prices from 139.99 euros (one-way) and very attractive flight times (day flights without transfers) complements Eurowings with new service components. For BIZ Class passengers, this includes pillows, padded headrests, and free food and drinks (including alcoholic beverages) throughout the flight. All Dubai passengers will also receive device holders onboard the A320neo, making it easier to watch movies and series on their own devices. The rapidly growing Eurowings offering on longer medium-haul routes is partially replacing domestic German routes, which, due to rapidly increasing taxes and fees at German airports, are becoming increasingly unprofitable to operate. For example, the service between Hamburg and Cologne/Bonn, which has been popular for many years, will soon be discontinued.

Eurowings celebrates spectacular new addition: hot air balloon christened on sunny island
Franziska Krug / Eurowings via Getty Image In the picturesque ambience of the Hacienda Son Antem Golf Resort on the sunny island of Mallorca, the ceremonial christening of the new Eurowings hot air balloon took place. Around 60 invited guests, including high-calibre personalities from politics, economics, and the media, gathered to celebrate this special event together with Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof and entrepreneur and presenter Victoria Swarovski. From April Fool's joke to reality: the new balloon bears the illustrious name Burgundy Dreams Victoria I - a tribute to the dream destinations that Eurowings flies to every day. The large, colourful balloon is eight storeys high (22 metres) and bears the colours and lettering of Eurowings. That alone is not what makes it special though, as it is the first hot air balloon in jet design to show the outline of an aeroplane: a cockpit at the front, the tail unit at the back and the wings on the sides. The story began as an April Fool's joke: ‘Eurowings is entering the hot-air ballooning business,’ read a press release from 1 April 2024. The response to the story was so great that balloon pilots applied to Eurowings by the dozen and numerous interested parties asked when the Mallorca flights in the burgundy balloon would actually start. In view of the euphoria, Germany's No. 1 holiday airline remembered its favourite role as a dream fulfiller - and had the unusual flying object produced without further ado. The balloon was customised in a factory in Barcelona. From now on, it will float over the island as a landmark for ten years. The decision to christen the balloon Mallorca is no coincidence: the island has been an absolute favourite destination for Germans for decades and is also a second home for Eurowings. ‘With our largest international station and now almost 1,000 employees, Mallorca is our centrepiece outside Germany,’ says Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof. The naming ceremony ended with an impressive ascent of the balloon into the evening sky of Mallorca. From now on, the Burgundy Dreams Victoria I symbolises not only the passion for travel, but also the lightness and all the emotional experiences that Eurowings stands for as Germany's largest vacation airline.

The company holidays.ch is responsible for production.
Eurowings offers most extensive Spain program ever in 2024 with more than 600 weekly flights
More than 600 flights a week to Spain, almost 100 routes and 14 different destinations: Eurowings is offering the largest range of flights to Spain to date in 2024. In a five-year comparison, the number of airports and connection frequencies in particular have increased. Germany's largest leisure airline is offering around a third more seats this year than in 2019, and demand continues to rise. In addition to the most popular Balearic island of Mallorca, demand is particularly strong for trips to the mainland near the coast, for example to Barcelona and Malaga. Insider tips such as Bilbao in northern Spain and the volcanic Canary Island of La Palma round off the program. The destinations at a glance: Alicante, Bilbao, Barcelona, Jerez de la Frontera, Malaga and Valencia on the mainland; Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca on the Balearic Islands, and Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma and Tenerife on the Canary Islands. Eurowings enters the hot air ballooning business
Ballooning instead of flying: Eurowings is expanding its range to include a very special way of travelling. With the start of the summer school holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia (from 8 July 2024), holidaymakers will also be able to regularly travel the popular route from Dusseldorf to Palma de Mallorca in a hot air balloon. Germany's largest holiday airline is primarily aiming to counter growing capacity bottlenecks on the air traffic routes to Mallorca. The more than 420 weekly connections offered by Eurowings to Europe's most popular sunny island in the summer were almost fully booked well before Easter. As further aircraft are not available from Airbus or Boeing at such short notice, Eurowings decided to expand the so-called “Palma Shuttle” – also to put more pressure on the two major aircraft manufacturers. With this step, the Lufthansa Group airline can also meet the rapidly growing demand for extraordinary travel experiences. The new service makes it possible for passengers to experience the picturesque landscape on the way to Mallorca from a completely new perspective. “With the expansion of our Palma Shuttle, we are setting an example for innovation and a spirit of adventure. We are delighted to be the first airline in Europe to offer our customers this unique way of travelling,” says Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof. “Travelling by hot air balloon is a fascinating and thoroughly romantic way to make the journey an unforgettable experience – even if the journey to Palma de Mallorca takes a little longer than by plane.” Lars Redeligx, CEO of Flughafen Düsseldorf GmbH, is delighted: “A pioneering idea that is finally having its moment! During the Covid pandemic, we had already made initial plans for balloon flights at the airport but had to put them on hold for the time being for cost reasons. Now we can finally realize them. Ballooning simply fits perfectly into our strategy of being an excellent, exemplary sustainable airport. This makes us the first major airport in Germany to put a vertiport into operation – right next to the helicopter landing pad of the state police. If successful, I can imagine an expansion to domestic feeder flights within Germany.” Five hot air balloons expand Eurowings fleet To enter the new business segment, Eurowings has ordered five hot air balloons and optioned ten more. The vehicles not only have powerful burners, but also two newly designed engines – specially developed for Eurowings – which can significantly speed up journeys with the colorful giants on long-haul routes. Initial test flights with the “Burgundy Dreams” balloons have shown that the journey can be completed in six to eight hours, depending on weather conditions. The balloon baskets are expertly hand-woven and can comfortably accommodate up to twelve passengers – pilot's bar included. All necessary permits and licenses for the expansion of business operations have already been obtained. As with conventional Eurowings aircraft, regular inspections and maintenance are also carried out on the balloons to ensure that they are in perfect condition at all times. Eurowings balloon flights are operated by experienced and qualified pilots who ensure the safety and comfort of guests. Eurowings has posted a corresponding job advertisement for the expansion of the pilot corps on the career portal today. Flight times vary depending on the weather As balloon flights are highly dependent on the weather, passengers will be advised of the necessary flexibility at the time of booking: Flights will be offered on Mondays and Thursdays; however, it cannot be ruled out that they will have to be postponed if conditions are unfavorable. The balloon flights will be available for booking as of 24 April on the Eurowings homepage, with prices starting at 599 euros (one-way). .
Eurowings achieves historic profit turnaround
The airline Eurowings has achieved a record result thanks to strong demand and the restructuring carried out in recent years. Overall, the point-to-point business segment of Lufthansa Group, consisting of Eurowings and the stake in SunExpress, generated a positive result of 205 million euros (Adjusted EBIT) in 2023. The business segment, which specializes in affordable flights for business and leisure travelers, thus achieved a historic profit turnaround. In the previous year, there was still a loss of 197 million euros. Eurowings' financial turnaround is largely due to strategic changes since the Covid crisis. The significant expansion of the tourism business helped the Cologne-based company increase its turnover by 40 percent to around EUR 2.6 billion. Eurowings benefited in particular from the lasting desire to travel after the pandemic years and a summer season with new record numbers of guests, including to Mallorca. Eurowings operates a growing base here, connecting Europe's favorite sunny island with 26 airports in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden and the Czech Republic. This summer, Eurowings will offer more than 400 weekly connections to and from Palma for the first time – a new record. Among the more than 150 destinations in the Eurowings route network, the holiday hotspots of Greece, Italy and Spain also remain in high demand. Kai Duve, Eurowings Chief Financial Officer (CFO): “The financial turnaround is not only a historic milestone for Eurowings, but first and foremost a strong team effort by our 5,000 employees, which deserves the highest recognition. We can see that our reorganization as a value airline for Europe is succeeding. As a result, we have developed from an airline with a strong domestic German focus into a leading European leisure airline. We will continue on this path, expand the tourism sector in a targeted manner and bring even more Eurowings to Europe in 2024.”
Eurowings turns to SITA to enhance passenger satisfaction and improve baggage operations
Eurowings has entered into a five-year contract to deploy SITA Bag Journey for real-time tracking information of passenger bags through the entire journey. This will help improve the baggage experience for passengers, improve baggage operations, and reduce the overall cost of mishandled baggage. SITA Bag Journey provides an end-to-end view of the bag journey, from when a passenger checks in their baggage to when they collect it on arrival. Using SITA’s solution, Eurowings staff will know where each bag is along the journey, including precise, real-time details of where the bag is inside the airport. In the future, the airline will have the ability to share baggage tracking data with passengers using the SITA Bag Journey API. This would provide passengers the peace of mind that their bags will arrive with them at their destination. Mishandled baggage is a significant pain point for the aviation industry and costs billions annually. SITA’s 2023 Baggage IT Insights highlights that the mishandled baggage rate surged by 74.7% in 2022, reaching 7.6 bags per thousand passengers in 2022. This notable increase can be attributed to the surge in passenger travel. With the ongoing staffing challenges faced by airlines, airports, and ground handlers, the industry is focusing on achieving more with less with the help of intelligent baggage management technologies like SITA Bag Journey. SITA’s Bag Journey means Eurowings will comply with IATA’s baggage tracking resolution 753 which requires airlines to track bags at four key stages: check-in, loading onto an aircraft, transfers, and arrival. SITA will integrate the solution across most airports from which the airline flies. It will also fully integrate SITA’s WorldTracer® application, which traces mishandled or delayed baggage. In smaller airports, Eurowings has the option of using SITA’s mobile bag scanning solution, SITA Bag Journey NetScan, to track bags. Sergio Colella, SITA President for Europe, said: “Getting your baggage on time and knowing where it is during the journey is proven to be a key element of a great travel experience and an essential driver for customer satisfaction. This agreement underscores Eurowings’ continuous dedication to delivering a great passenger experience while achieving significant efficiencies on the operational side.”
Eurowings lets dreams soar
Eurowings and Magdalena Brzeska, Olympic star and 26-time German rhythmic gymnastics champion, have fulfilled a special dream for young people from Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria and Germany just before Christmas: flight tickets to take part in a top international competition in Dubai. Without the commitment of Eurowings, the Dubai trip would not have been financially feasible for the ambitious gymnastics team. Germany's largest holiday airline supported the project with direct flights from Stuttgart to Dubai so that the athletes could compete internationally with the best in their field this weekend. It was not only an athletic highlight in the lives of the gymnastics talents: some of the girls come from Ukraine and had to leave everything behind when they escaped the war. They have found a new home in Magdalena Brzeska's team and train with great passion and strong will. But in order to take the next step, the girls need to compete on the big international stage. Magdalena Brzeska: "With this campaign, we are setting an example of courage and hope for international sports and for young athletes all over the world. I am very grateful to Eurowings for supporting the team." The young gymnastics talents have now returned to Germany: with eleven gold and eleven silver medals in their luggage, they were the most successful team at the international competition in Dubai. Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings: "As an airline, we connect people and cultures – and thus also promote top-class sport. When we heard about the passion with which the girls fight for their sport, but have no chance to compete on the international stage, there was only one decision: We support this trip because it also shows our passion at Eurowings to make children's dreams come true." "The girls are like my family. I get as much love from them as a mom," says Magdalena Brzeska. The 45-year-old was born in Poland came to Germany at the age of twelve herself with nothing but a gym bag in her hand. She won back-to-back championship titles for TSV Schmiden (Baden-Württemberg) and took part in European and World Championships. She was part of the German team at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta (USA). As a regular guest on popular TV shows, she is still known to a wide audience today – including as the winner of the RTL dance show "Let's Dance". She began developing and training young talents as a coach at an early stage. In 2006, she founded the "Magdalena Brzeska Talent School" for young gymnasts at her home club TSV Schmiden. She has been head coach and director of a rhythmic gymnastics center in Ulm since 2013.
