Air India Express announces operations to Dhaka

Continuing its rapid growth, Air India Express announces the expansion of its operations to Dhaka. From 3rd September 2024, the airline will operate six weekly flights each connecting Dhaka to Kolkata and Chennai, enhancing connectivity, and fostering economic growth between India and Bangladesh. Apart from trade and tourism, these flights will also help guests from Bangladesh travelling for medical treatments at speciality hospitals in Chennai and Kolkata. The services will also provide connections to Air India Express flights to the Gulf region, as also to Air India long-haul international flights.” Guests from cities such as Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kochi, Imphal, Jaipur, Surat, and Varanasi will now benefit from convenient one-stop connectivity to Dhaka. Guests from Dhaka can also now easily travel to these cities via Kolkata or Chennai. With this expansion of its network to Dhaka, Kolkata has become the third-largest station for Air India Express, offering 158 weekly flights that connect the City of Joy to 13 destinations directly and 20 destinations through one-stop itineraries. From Chennai, Air India Express operates over 85 weekly flights, connecting 13 destinations directly and 24 destinations through one-stop itineraries. Last week, Air India Express announced the addition of Agartala as its 32nd domestic destination, with daily direct flights connecting the capital city of Tripura to Kolkata and Guwahati.

THAI operates flights to Yangon and Dhaka with Airbus A320

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) proceeds with the restructuring of business operation in aviation of the company and THAI Smile Airways. The fleet efficiency and aircraft utilization have effectively been enhanced. The airline route network has also been strengthened to support increasing travel demands. THAI will utilize Airbus A320 aircraft to operate on the routes Bangkok – Yangon v.v., which was formerly operated by THAI Smile Airways, and Bangkok – Dhaka v.v., starting 16 July 2023 with details as follows: 1. Bangkok – Yangon v.v. will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft providing inflight services of Silk Class, especially offered on routes operated with A320, with variety of food and beverages to fulfill all customers’ travel experiences and comfort throughout their journey, and Economy Class together with selections of inflight entertainment such as e-Reading and short movies. The operations will be 14 flights per week: Bangkok – Yangon • TG301 departs from Bangkok at 09:35 hours and arrives in Yangon at 10:35 hours (local time) • TG303 departs from Bangkok at 17:05 hours and arrives in Yangon at 18:00 hours (local time) Yangon – Bangkok • TG302 departs from Yangon at 11:25 hours (local time) and arrives in Bangkok at 13:25 hours • TG304 departs from Yangon at 19:00 hours (local time) and arrives in Bangkok at 21:00 hours 2. Bangkok – Dhaka v.v. (TG339/340) will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, an increase from three to seven flights per week, offering Economy Class service. With existing flight operations of TG321/322, THAI will totally fly double daily flights from Bangkok to Dhaka with details as follows: Bangkok – Dhaka • TG321, operated with B777-200ER aircraft, departs from Bangkok at 10:35 hours and arrives in Dhaka at 12:10 hours (local time) • TG339, operated with A320 aircraft, departs from Bangkok at 23:50 hours and arrives in Dhaka at 01:25 hours (local time) Dhaka – Bangkok • TG322, operated with B777-200ER aircraft, departs from Dhaka at 13:35 hours (local time) and arrives in Bangkok at 17:00 hours • TG340, operated with A320 aircraft, departs from Dhaka at 02:45 hours (local time) and arrives in Bangkok at 06:15 hours Currently, THAI also operates flights to Delhi, Mumbai and Dhaka utilizing B777-200ER and A320 aircraft.

IndiGo to restart Hyderabad–Dhaka flights

IndiGo announced the recommencement of Hyderabad- Dhaka flights from December 08, 2022, to cater to the rising demand for travel to Dhaka. Commenting on this, Vinay Malhotra, global sales head, IndiGo said, “In line with our aim to reconnect India with international markets post covid, we are pleased to resume direct flights between Hyderabad & Dhaka. This will not only create direct connectivity between these cities but also support the medical tourists travelling from Bangladesh to India. Vistara to launch Dhaka-Mumbai flights from 15 Nov

Indian full-service carrier Vistara will start operating flights on Dhaka in Bangladesh and Mumbai in India from 15 November. The airline will operate two weekly flights on this route.   As informed by a news report in The Daily star, Vistara’s flight UK183 will depart Mumbai Airport at 7:35 am and arrive in Dhaka at 11:00 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The return flight UK184 from Dhaka will leave at 12:00 pm local time and reach Mumbai at 2:45 local time on the same days. Vistara is currently operating daily flights on Dhaka-Delhi route with a brand new 188-seater A321neo aircraft with three class configuration-Business, Premium Economy, and Economy.

Yangon and Dhaka on Indigo route now

IndiGo has announced two new international routes — Delhi-Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Kolkata-Yangon (Myanmar). While the Kolkata-Yangon daily will start from 20 September, the Delhi-Dhaka sector will begin on 22 August. Talking about the Yangon route, William Boulter, chief commercial officer (CCO), IndiGo said: “We see significant traffic coming from Yangon to the Buddhist circuit, thereby enhancing economic growth and tourism in India. This new route will strengthen the cultural relationship between the two countries and will boost trade, tourism and mobility.” Regarding the Dhaka launch, he said: “We are confident, with Dhaka being a handicraft and textile hub in Asia, enhanced connectivity will promote trade as well as tourism between India and Bangladesh.” Yangon will be IndiGo’s 18th international destination in a network spanning across 77 cities.

SpiceJet flags off-first ever daily non-stop flight on Guwahati-Dhaka IACS route

SpiceJet has launched daily non-stop flight services on the Guwahati-Dhaka-Guwahati route, under the International Air Connectivity Scheme (IACS). SpiceJet’s Guwahati-Dhaka flight is the first-ever to be operated under IACS. The flight, which earmarks a new milestone, also reiterates the airline’s commitment on enhancing connectivity in the North East region. Debojo Maharshi, chief marketing officer, SpiceJet said, “We believe that the tremendous success of Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) can be replicated in IACS as well thereby making international air travel much more affordable and convenient for Indians. Enhancing connectivity to the North-East has always been on top of our agenda and this new flight marks an important milestone in this regard.” SpiceJet is India’s largest and most organised regional player operating a fleet of 76 Boeing 737 aircraft, 31 Bombardier Q400 planes and two B737 freighters. With the launch of the new flight services between Guwahati and Dhaka, SpiceJet now operates two flights under IACS besides operating a total of 43 flights connecting 24 cities under UDAN. This is the highest number of flights being operated by any Indian airline under UDAN or the regional connectivity scheme.

SpiceJet to launch Guwahati-Dhaka flights

SpiceJet will launch Guwahati-Dhaka flight under the International Air Connectivity Scheme (IACS) from 1 July. In addition, the airline has launched 14 direct flights connecting metros and non-metros on its domestic network. All flights on the domestic network will commence operations from 20 June 2019. SpiceJet has also announced the launch of new flights on Bengaluru-Gwalior-Bengaluru and Kolkata-Gwalior-Kolkata sectors. The airline will also introduce daily flights on the Bengaluru-Belagavi-Bengaluru route under the UDAN scheme. The airline will add additional frequencies on the Kolkata-Dibrugarh-Kolkata (second frequency), Guwahati-Dibrugarh-Guwahati (second frequency) and two additional frequencies on Bengaluru-Mangaluru-Bengaluru sector (total five flights now). "International air travel will now become affordable and convenient for more Indians" All the new flights will be operational daily, except the flights on the Bengaluru-Mangalore-Bengaluru sector which will be operational on all days of the week except Mondays and Wednesdays. The flight on the Bengaluru-Gwalior-Bengaluru sector will be operational on all days of the week except Tuesdays whereas the flight on the Bengaluru-Belagavi-Bengaluru sector will be operational on all days of the week except Wednesdays. According to Shilpa Bhatia, chief sales and revenue officer at SpiceJet, “With the launch of our first flight under the International Air Connectivity Scheme, international air travel will now become affordable and convenient for more Indians.” Deploying its Bombardier Q400 aircraft on these routes, SpiceJet aims to further strengthen its network between metros and non-metros, she added.

Dusit to debut in Dhaka

DusitPrincess Dhaka Thailand's Dusit International has continued to expand its global footprint with the signing of its first hotel in Bangladesh. Scheduled to open by the end of 2017, the DusitPrincess Dhaka will operate under the hotel group’s new franchising model, as part of a long-term agreement with Lakeshore Hotels. Located in the north of the Bangladeshi capital, only five minutes' drive from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the new property is being marketed as an "upper-midscale business hotel". It will feature 80 rooms and 10 suites over 13 floors, plus a restaurant, a "grab n’ go" F&B outlet, a meeting room and rooftop swimming pool. "DusitPrincess Dhaka presents us with a fantastic opportunity to showcase our new franchise model in a robust hotel market," said Lim Boon Kwee, Dusit's chief operating officer. "Dynamic partnerships such as this are vital to Dusit’s sustainable and profitable growth worldwide." Dusit’s Lim Boon Kwee agrees the deal with Kazi Tareq Shams of Lakeside Hotels Lakeshore Hotels has been in the hotel industry for 15 years and currently operates two upper-midscale hotels in Dhaka under the Lakeshore brand. "Our capacity to supervise hotel operations has grown significantly in recent years and we are pleased Dusit has recognised those capacities on our side," said Kazi Tareq Shams, the company's managing director. "To operate our upcoming hotel under the renowned DusitPrincess brand is a real honour and we have every confidence it will be a resounding success." Dusit currently operates 29 properties in eight countries, with a further 51 projects in the pipeline and due to open within the next three years. These include new properties in other South Asian countries including Sri Lanka and Bhutan.

Saudia launches new Hajj services for 2025

Saudia Group has unveiled its comprehensive plan for the 2025 Hajj Season, announcing its official entry into the Hajj services sector, aiming to redefine the pilgrimage experience. For the first time, the Group will serve as a full Hajj service provider, marking a new chapter in its commitment to elevating the spiritual journey of pilgrims. Its offerings will now extend far beyond air travel to include a range of innovative services that cater to every aspect of the pilgrim experience. From the initial planning stage to the smallest details at the holy sites, pilgrims will benefit from enhanced support and care. In line with this vision, Saudia Group will offer more than one million seats over a 74-day period and utilize its fleet of 158 aircraft, capturing 35% of the market share. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group, alongside executives from Jeddah Airports Company and other government sectors. To enhance the pilgrims' experience, Saudia offers a range of services, including convenient boarding pass issuance for both outbound and return flights at the airports. Its multilingual staff ensure seamless communication, delivering top-notch service with expertise. Onboard Saudia flights, pilgrims will enjoy diverse meal options, timely prayer and Miqat announcements, and specially curated programs in collaboration with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah that provide guidance on rituals and local regulations. BBN Airlines Indonesia signs agreement with US-Bangla Airlines

Avia Solutions Group subsidiary BBN Airlines Indonesia recently signed a wet-lease agreement with one of Bangladesh’s largest carriers, US-Bangla Airlines. As a leading provider of aircraft crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) BBN seeks to support US-Bangla Airlines’ growing operational requirements. Per the agreement, BBN Airlines Indonesia will provide two Boeing 737-800NG aircraft to US-Bangla Airlines, the first of which commenced operations last 1st April while the second will begin service early next month. Configured with an all-Economy layout, both planes will operate international routes from Dhaka to the Middle East, Thailand, Maldives, and Singapore.  The aircraft and crew are fully based in Dhaka, ensuring a seamless integration into US-Bangla Airlines’ existing network. A significant milestone for both parties According to BBN Airlines Indonesia chair Martynas Grigas: “This partnership marks a significant milestone in our expansion within the Asian market. We are proud to support US-Bangla Airlines by providing high-quality ACMI capacity that aligns with their strategic goals and operational demands.” For his part, US-Bangla Airlines’ head for commercial and contracts Jitendra Pandey said: “US-Bangla has been consistently seeking credible partners for ACMI leases, and with BBN Airlines Indonesia now on board, this marks our second ACMI partnership with the Avia Solutions Group.” Pandey added that his airline’s experience with Avia Solutions Group companies has been very positive, particularly due to their agility in understanding and adapting to the unique operational and cultural requirements of the region.  This collaboration also highlights BBN Airlines Indonesia’s growing footprint in the regional ACMI market and underscores its ability to deliver tailored capacity solutions that support its partners’ operational success.
