Contiki launches four new Asian trip packages

Youth travel brand Contiki announced its latest trip launch in Asia, offering four packages to the region’s trending destinations. The four new packages are the Borneo Adventure, Philippines Island Hopping East, China Adventure, and the Eternal India Express. According to Contiki CEO Adam Armstrong: “Expanding our range of trips in Asia has been on the top of our agenda for a couple of years now. Keeping in mind the cost-of-living crisis, we've focussed on making these trips budget-friendly for our young travellers. We've also lowered our base prices, and our upcoming Cyber Sale will also give young travellers the chance to book their trip for the most affordable price.” Where the wild things are More young travellers now want to visit destinations where they can see wildlife in their natural habitat and where they are taken care of ethically.  In a recent survey conducted by Contiki, 29 percent of travellers aged 18-35 said that they actively seek out sustainable travel experiences from sustainable brands.  By visiting sanctuaries for endangered animals like Orangutans and Sun Bears, the trip also contributes to the advancement of UN Sustainability Goal Number 15: Life on Land. First time in Malaysia The brand's very first trip to the Malaysian part of Borneo will be a treat for wildlife lovers, as travellers will have the chance to see unique wildlife only found in that part of the planet.  The nine-day trip visits the famous Bako National Park and spends a day on the Selingan Turtle Island where travellers can witness the rare sight of turtles laying eggs on the beach.  The trip also includes a cruise over Kinabatangan River for even more wildlife watching. Lovin’ the Philippines After its launch in early 2024, Contiki's Philippines Island Hopping has already locked an unprecedentedly high number of bookings.  Taking this demand into consideration, the brand has now announced another trip that visits four new islands in the eastern part of the Philippines.  Additionally, travellers who want to cover both the eastern and western parts of the Philippines, can now choose to book the 22-day Ultimate Philippines Island Hopping trip for the full experience. Kicking off in Cebu City, travellers will have the chance to see dolphins in the wild, and even witness a sardine run on a snorkelling adventure.  Travellers will also get to dine on an authentic Filipino eight-course meal in Bohol. The trip includes flights and boat transfers between islands. Into China and India Contiki has reintroduced its previously popular trip, China Adventure. The 12-day trip is a great option for travellers who find it difficult to navigate the country due to language barriers and its vast size, and hence prefer a planned group tour.  Travellers will get the chance to tour Beijing with a local guide, see Xi'An's terracotta warriors, sample street eats, visit a panda sanctuary and, of course, see the Great Wall of China. Contiki's new trip, Eternal India Express is a great option for travellers who want to tick off India's hotspots on a budget, and in just over a week. The trip visits Delhi, Agra, Udaipur, Jaipur, and Ranthambore. Travellers will get entry tickets to the Taj Mahal, go on a tiger safari in Ranthambore, and even tour Old Delhi's streets on a tuk tuk.

Contiki launches first ever trip to the Philippines

Contiki, the social travel brand for 18-35s, has announced its first ever trip to the Philippines. Its name is Philippines Island Hopping, and it gives travellers the chance to explore the country’s most famous tourist hotspots in less than 2 weeks. There are two versions of this trip. A 9-day version that goes to Puerto Princesa, Port Barton and El Nido, and a 13-day version - the Philippines Island Hopping Trip with Boat Expedition, that includes an additional sea safari adventure to the Coron Islands. And in an industry-leading move, Contiki invited a group of past travellers for an exclusive first glance at the newly-launched trip. Both trips include many island adventures, such as a boat ride through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Subterranean River National Park, an island hopping day trip in Port Barton, a Jeepney ride to Nacpan Beach, and a unique Special Stay and MAKE TRAVEL MATTER ® experience at the Isla Experience in Daracoton Island – which directly contributes to the welfare of the locals. The optional 4-day Boat Expedition takes travellers to some of the undiscovered gems in the Philippines, including Palawan Calamian’s Group of Islands (Northern Palawan archipelago) and famous attractions such as Coron islands, Cullion and Linapacan. It includes a private boat, the chance to go snorkelling in Coral Garden, sea-side camping in Coron and a visit to Turtle Islands. Among the included experiences is a Filipino-classic tricycle ride to Las Cabanas for a beach sunset, and a traditional boodle fight. Travellers will also have a chance to visit a local’s house for an authentic locally-grown Filipino Meal. Contiki makes the Philippines – which can be challenging for solo travellers to navigate – much easier to explore. Both trips include internal flights, boat transfers and all other transport – along with all accommodation and various meals too. After receiving well over 1,000 applications, Contiki selected a lucky group of past travellers to be the very first to experience the trip. Jetting off on an all-expenses-paid adventure, the group had the exclusive chance to try and test the trip before its first public departure. “My favourite experience from the trip was trying all the traditional foods from the different restaurants. And also visiting the local village. Especially Nanay and hearing her story about how she earns money for her family through this”, says Terri-Anne Mattadeen, a past traveller from the USA. “Visiting Darocorton Island was amazing. Other than that, snorkelling, swimming at the beautiful beaches, and also meeting the local people. They were very welcoming, which I always enjoyed”,  says Laura Reid from Ireland “For me, the special stay at Darocorton Island was a highlight. I just really enjoyed being with the locals. Such beautiful sights. And the sunset was just perfect. I actually felt relaxed. It was really nice just to kick back and have that nice view when you're sitting on your bed, waking up in the morning”, says Christian from Australia. Christian was born in the Philippines, and aimed to trace his roots back through this trip. This was the first time he was visiting the country since moving to Australia in his childhood. “I had heard a lot about the culture of the Philippines. It’s very friendly, warm, and welcoming. And as soon as we stepped off the boat to the islands, we got that tenfold from all the locals. It's really nice to go back and just interact with everyone”, says Christian. Additionally, among the past travellers was Nathan Lust, a TikTok influencer from Australia with over 5M followers for his quirky dance videos. “My favourite part of the trip was the Isla Experience Special Stay - snorkelling, canoes, huts - it was everything you want from a remote island stay, and of course what a spot to dance, it's absolute paradise!”, says Nathan. “The Philippines is a major in demand destination for travellers worldwide, particularly those from the Gen-Z demographic. We're thrilled to now be satisfying that demand, on a trip that makes visiting the Philippines so very easy - and fun too!”, says Adam Armstrong, CEO at Contiki. “The Philippines has been one of the most sought-after destinations in Asia, specifically for its island-hopping experiences. This has been many years in the making, and we really wanted to make sure that we include only the best spots & something for everyone. We’re so happy to be able to launch this trip, which showcases the wonderful beaches, marine adventures and culture that the Philippines has to offer,” says Taryn Welsh, Operations Director, Asia at Contiki. “It’s really important to us that we take into consideration what our travellers think about our trip. That’s why we made the decision to invite a few past Contiki travellers to go on the Philippines trip before the first departure and give us their feedback.” “We’re seeing a growing demand for various destinations across Asia, and more so for the Philippines.  We created 2 itineraries to provide options to different types of travellers – as everyone should see the Philippines, but not everyone is down for beach camping. “We hope to visit many more destinations in Asia in the coming years”

Refreshed and green! Contiki’s new brand ready for world craving social travel experiences

To reflect a brighter future for travel - as well as this bottled-up desire for authentic human connections - Contiki, the world leaders in youth social travel, has launched a bold evolution of its brand identity. As well as an eye-catching new look and feel, signifying an optimism for the industry that meets the new needs of Gen-Z and Millennial travellers, Contiki has also realised its ambition of becoming entirely carbon neutral. This refreshed positioning is laser-focussed on the fun, social experiences and sustainability that the brand has been associated with for 60 years. “During these strange times, we took some time to really understand what our travellers will want when the so-called ‘new-normal’ arrives” said Simon LLanos, Contiki’s CMO. “We thought about our position and how we communicate Social Travel, something the world has dearly missed. We focussed on the things that are uniquely us: sharing incredible experiences, with brilliant people and a sense of fun, humour and community. We really feel we’ve bottled this feeling with our lively new brand evolution. We can confidently say: ‘we look how we feel’” Contiki’s energetic new look and feel is an expression of its values. The vivid colour shade, led by Contiki Green, leans into the energy, power and wonder of the feelings the brand creates on trips. “The evolution firmly places community at the heart of everything we do at Contiki, it expresses the emotional excitement of sharing your first travel moments with new friends from across the world,” Llanos said. Contiki Green represents not only the new brand positioning but also the brands take on sustainability, ‘a new kind of green’. “Contiki trips are intelligently designed to be 100% carbon neutral but sacrifice none of the fun or wonderful experiences to achieve this,” says Tasha Hayes, Contiki’s Sustainability Officer. “We know that sustainability is incredibly important to our travellers but so is a complete travel experience and having a great time; we’ve looked at everything from our processes to communication to bring in line with the ‘new kind of green’” Hayes ended. The evolution for Contiki comes at a time where the brand has set ambitious goals for 2022, continuing its global expansion in the 18-35s market. “In the last 2 months we’ve really started to see encouraging signs of a meaningful recovery,” said Adam Armstrong, Contiki CEO. “Our travellers are resilient, confident and eager to resume their travels. We’ve developed this exciting new positioning with their help - and we look forward to welcoming them back to Social Travel with Contiki this year.”

Contiki Holidays has launched four brand new conscious travel experiences for Europe 2020 as part of a new commitment by the travel provider to have conscious travel experiences on every single trip by 2021. The brand new conscious travel experiences have been handpicked especially for travellers aged 18-35, aiming to give Contiki-goers a fresh perspective while also giving something back to the communities visited on their trips, and delivering to the growing trend for conscious and ethical travel among Gen-Z travellers.
