SriLankan Airlines to launch new daytime Bangalore-Colombo route
SriLankan Airlines is launching a new daytime flight between Bangalore and Colombo starting 31 October 2024, bringing the total weekly operations between the two cities to 10 flights. The new flight timings are ideal for both Indian holidaymakers and business event attendees travelling to Sri Lanka for short weekend escapes. Flight UL 1174 will depart from Bangalore to Colombo at 09:40 AM every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, arriving in Colombo at 11:10 AM. The corresponding return flight, UL 1173, will leave Colombo at 07:20 AM and reach Bangalore at 08:40 AM, also every Thursday through Saturday. A more flexible travel experience The schedule of the new service is designed to offer a more flexible travel experience for Bengalureans jetting out to Sri Lanka, whether for a vacation or a workation. It provides more daytime hours on the island while being conveniently scheduled closer to the weekend. This allows travellers to pack more into their itinerary, make the most of their visit, and return home in time for the start of a new week, making it the most convenient flight option for weekend travel to Sri Lanka. The seamless schedule is not the only reason that makes SriLankan Airlines a great choice for Indians. Travellers who are members of the airline’s frequent flyer program, FlySmiLes, can earn 1,174 miles and 1,173 miles when they travel on UL 1174 and UL 1173, respectively. Customers can also savour mouthwatering Indian vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine while enjoying the warmth and friendliness that embody the essence of Sri Lanka when travelling aboard SriLankan Airlines.
IndiGo enhances connectivity to Singapore, Kuwait, and Colombo
IndiGo has announced a new route and additional frequencies to enhance international connectivity from prominent commercial and tourist hubs across states in South and Central India, starting October 2024. New Flights: IndiGo launches daily direct Coimbatore-Singapore flight, from Oct 27 Additional Frequencies: Chennai to Singapore and Colombo starting from Oct 15, and Mumbai-Kuwait from Oct 29 These new routes and frequencies aim to enhance international connectivity and bolster mobility between the commercial hubs in Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, considering the increased demand for business and leisure travel from the states. IndiGo announces new direct flights between Mumbai and Colombo
IndiGo, India's preferred airline, has announced new direct flights between Mumbai and Colombo starting April 12, 2024. These flights will operate three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and play a key role in enhancing connectivity between the financial capital of India - Mumbai, and the capital of Sri Lanka. With this new connection, Mumbai has become the fourth destination in India with direct connectivity to Colombo, after Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. ‘Transcending Borders – Transforming Lives’ is the theme for the TAAI Convention to be held in Colombo from 6-9 July 2023
Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) on the invitation from the Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Board (SLTPB) will be holding its 67th Convention and Exhibition in Colombo, Sri Lanka from July 6 – 9, 2023 in Association with Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO). TAAI, which was supposed to host its Convention in Sri Lanka last year, is sticking to its commitment and taking a good-size delegation to the Island Country, which is recovering well from its economic crisis experienced last year. The Convention, will have post tours, offering people a good chance to experience all that Sri Lanka has to offer. Jyoti Mayal, President, of TAAI, says, “We have been waiting for almost a year to host our Convention in Sri Lanka and we are really glad that this is finally happening. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country, and we are positive that our members will create good synergy with the local tour operators in Sri Lanka and collectively we will be able to increase the tourist traffic between the two countries that are already bound by the Spiritual thread. SLTPB wants India Tourism Industry to be part of its growth story and witness the revival of the island country. Sri Lanka has already welcomed around 75,000 Indian visitors this year (up till April 30) making India its biggest source market. They are excited to roll out the red carpet for around 500 Indian delegates, including media, who would be attending the Convention. With the focus to formulate a Vision Plan for the future of TAAI, the Convention will witness meaningful discussions and debates that will help our members become stronger in their business area.” Amish Desai, Mananging Committee Member, TAAI disclosed the theme of the Convention as – Transcending Borders – Transforming Lives. Jay Bhatia, Vice President, TAAI shared the schedule of the Convention with the media. “As per the tentative schedule, delegates will arrive in Colombo on July 6 and there will be a media briefing between 3 – 5 pm for the local as well as Indian media. The opening ceremony will take place at 7 pm at BMICH. On July 7 and 8, there will be Business Sessions and Knowledge Discussions from 10am – 1pm. From 2 – 5pm, there will be B2B Meetings for around 200 delegates while the balance of delegates will go on city tour and sightseeing on both days. A theme Dinner is planned for July 7 at Temple Trees, the official residence of the PM of Sri Lanka and on July 8, a Gala evening is planned at the Heritance Negombo Hotel, which is a beautiful property, where delegates will be able to enjoy a fun evening on the beach. On July 9 the delegates can opt for day excursions from Colombo to Bentota / Kandy / Galle. They can also go for an overnight tour to the said places. 50 delegates per excursion/ post tours shall be accommodated on first-cum-fist basis. More details on Speakers and Sessions will be shared as and when will be decided,” he outlined. Lokesh Bettaiah, Hon. Secretary General, TAAI sharing details of the Convention registration said that it is mandatory for all delegates to register online for this Convention. “We have made the process extremely user-friendly with all details regarding hotels and airlines clearly listed on the website along with all payment gateways. The Online Registrations will start from May 28 (Sunday) and we encourage you all to register in good numbers,” he said. Paras Lakhia, Mananging Committee Member, TAAI will be handling the airline’s bookings and shared that they have negotiated the pricing with four partner airlines – Sri Lankan Airlines, Air India, IndiGo, and Air Vistara. “There is no Convention Hotel as such this time. The Inauguration is at BMICH, Day 2 Sessions are at Cinnamon Grand and Day 3 Sessions are at Shangri – La, followed by the B2B sessions in the respective hotels. Sri Lankan Tourism Ministry along with TAAI has made a request to the Hon. President of Sri Lanka for Free Visa for all Convention delegates. & further going for all Indian Tourists. We are awaiting confirmation on the same,” said Mayal, adding, that she has seen a heart-warming dedication and commitment by the young and dynamic Sri Lankan Tourism Minister Harin Fernando along with the very committed & hospitable team of SLAITO to host TAAI for a successful convention. “Meanwhile, let’s not disclose all details and let there be some surprise elements for the delegates also,” concluded Mayal.
Emirates to operate double daily direct flights to Colombo from 1 Dec
Emirates has announced plans to add an additional daily direct flight between Dubai and Colombo, starting from 1 December 2022, to cater to the seasonal increase in the demand for travel. The additional service, operating as EK648/EK649, will increase the number of daily flights between the two cities to three, including two direct flights and one operating via the Maldivian capital, Male. Emirates’ second daily flight will operate direct between Dubai and Colombo, except during 16 to 30 December, when the service from Dubai to Colombo will stop over in Male. From 1 to 15 December and from 31 December to 26 March, EK648 will depart Dubai at 16:10hrs daily and arrive in Colombo at 21:55hrs, all times local. Flight EK648 will be routed via Male from 16th to 30th December, and will during that period, depart Dubai at 10.30hrs and arrive in Male at 14.45hrs. It will then depart from Male at 17.15hrs and arrive in Colombo at 19.15hrs.Throughout the period from 1 December to 26 March, flight EK649 is scheduled to depart Colombo at 02:55hrs and arrive in Dubai at 05:55hrs. Emirates operates its modern Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a three-class configuration on flights to Colombo, offering private suites in First Class, lie flat seats in Business Class and spacious seats in Economy Class. TAAI postpones 66th convention scheduled in Colombo
The 66th Convention & Exhibition of TAAI, which was scheduled to be held from 19-22 April 2022, in Colombo Sri Lanka, has been postponed. Jyoti Mayal, President, TAAI said: “We had an overwhelming response to the convention registrations which had crossed the 500-registration mark. Sri Lankan Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO), along with Sri Lankan Airlines and, the Hotels in Colombo, were eager to host us for the convention, as was TAAI. The current economic and political situation in the island nation, whereby there is a shortage of fuel, power, gas, the daily consumer needs along with the political unrest in parts of the country, has compelled us to postpone the convention in Colombo. Tourism is always the first to be hit at the outset of any crisis, but we continue to stand strong & committed to our counterparts in Sri Lanka to revive tourism as soon as the opportunity arises by rescheduling the convention, she added. TAAI is in constant touch with the stakeholder partners and the hosts in Sri Lanka who continue to assuring their fullest support to hold the 66th Convention.
GoAir to start Colombo flights from Delhi and Bengaluru
In continuation of its expansion in South Asia, GoAir is set to start direct flights from Delhi to Colombo and Bengaluru to Colombo from 20 March. Jeh Wadia, managing director of GoAir said: “Our entry into Sri Lanka is in line with the growth strategy that we adopted since 2018 for international markets. India and Sri Lanka share a close relationship that goes beyond 2,500 years. There is a common interest of business, cultural, religious, and linguistic interaction between both countries.” The Delhi-Colombo and Bengaluru-Colombo flights will help travellers to explore the beauty and legacy of India and Sri Lanka, strengthening the bond of friendship between the two nations, he added.
Vistara to start Mumbai-Colombo service
Vistara, a full-service carrier and a joint venture of Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, has announced a six-time-a-week (except Wednesdays) direct service to Colombo, Sri Lanka from Mumbai starting from 25 November 2019, making it the fourth international destination in network. The airline will fly its Airbus A320neo aircraft with three-class cabin configuration between Mumbai and Colombo, which makes Vistara the first airline to offer the choice of premium economy class for travel on the India and Sri Lanka route, in addition to economy and business class. Leslie Thng, CEO of Vistara said: “Sri Lanka is a very promising destination for Vistara, given the growth it continues to record in trade and tourism, especially as India is the largest tourism source market for Sri Lanka. As we bring India’s only five-star airline on the India-Sri Lanka route, we are confident that our entry will further fuel the travel appetite among people.”
