Vietjet debuts its Ho Chi Minh City – Chengdu route on the first day of the Year of Dragon

Chengdu Cultural Tourism Promotion conference comes to Seoul

Marriott debuts in Southwest China with W Chengdu
Marriott has expanded its portfolio of W Hotels in China with the opening of the W Chengdu. Owned by KWG Group Holdings, the 297-room W Chengdu is located within the city’s Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, next to U Fun Plaza in Chengdu’s Gaoxin district. One highlight of the hotel is the Extreme WOW Suite, the brand’s modern interpretation of the traditional presidential suite, which features 368 square meters of flexible space with a sculptural bar and lounge area. Hotel facilities include two restaurants, two bars, over 2,600 sqm of flexible meeting space, a spa with three treatment rooms, a gym and an indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi. “While Chengdu is the hub for Western China and a newly minted ‘first-tier city’, an incredibly important and popular next-gen destination in China, it also features dynamic street fashion, design, and is an underground music mecca,” said Henry Lee, president of Greater China at Marriott International. “The city is breaking the mould of tradition and reinventing itself at every corner, making it a perfect fit for our newest W hotel in China. ICCA strengthens footprint in China with Chengdu centre
International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has signed an agreement with Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Exposition (CCPIT Chengdu), MeetingsChina and Chengdu University on a joint research cooperation project and officially launched the Centre of International Meetings Research and Training (CIMERT) supported by ICCA. This multi-party deal brings four organisations ranging from government, association, media and educational institution for an integrated project delivery. It covers a five-year period until 2023 and commits all four organisations to work together to promote joint research initiatives in the areas of capacity building, personnel industry development programme, knowledge dissemination, data collection as well as market analysis. "Human capital development." The signing of this new cooperation agreement marks ICCA’s first partnership on launching a research centre for enhancing mutual cooperation on capacity building and human capital development in the meetings industry and resource integration of international conferences in the Asia-Pacific region. AirAsia takes flight to Chengdu
Travellers flying out of Malaysia’s northern hub Penang can now enjoy another destination option as AirAsia launches new flights to Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, China. These new three times weekly direct flights commencing 8 March 2020 will provide exclusive air connectivity between the Pearl of the Orient to Sichuan. Riad Asmat, CEO of AirAsia Malaysia said: “This is our first new route of the year, welcoming Visit Malaysia 2020 and in conjunction with Experience Penang 2020. Penang is one of our largest secondary hubs in peninsular Malaysia, to which we have flown more than 2.4 million guests to the island last year. This is our first route from the city to mainland China and we are confident it will boost visitor arrivals into Penang and vice versa.” Best known as home to the adorable giant pandas, Chengdu is a thriving city with plenty to do and taste. With many natural, cultural and historical sights, some of the must-visit attractions include the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Jinli Ancient Street and the Leshan Giant Buddha and Wenshu Monastery. Besides Chengdu, the carrier currently flies to 12 destinations from its Penang hub.
Hainan Airlines to fly Chengdu–Chicago from September
As the Hainan-based carrier looks at increasing flights between China and the US, Hainan Airlines will launch a twice-weekly non-stop service between Chengdu and Chicago beginning on 16 September this year. The carrier will use a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on this route. Hainan Airlines has been flying non-stop between Chengdu and Los Angeles since March 2017, and non-stop from Chengdu to New York since October 2017. Flights were initially twice per week, before increasing to three times per week in May 2018. The Hainan-based carrier has recently been working to add more services between China and the US. Last December, it launched direct Chongqing–Shanghai Pudong–Boston and Chongqing–Shanghai Pudong–Seattle services. It has also been flying non-stop between Xi’an and Los Angeles since 31 December last year. Hainan Airlines is now operating 19 routes to North America, covering destinations including Seattle, San Jose, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston, Las Vegas, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, Mexico City and Tijuana.
Enter the Dragon: IndiGo’s China Delhi-Chengdu route
IndiGo is set to start a daily non-stop flight on the Delhi-Chengdu route from September 15 onwards. While also operating to five other international destinations in Asia, this flight will make Chengdu, the airline’s 19th international destination. This will be the first non-stop service between Chengdu to India. "We are providing the much-needed connectivity between the two destinations." William Boulter, chief commercial officer, IndiGo said, “India is witnessing a much higher growth rate with respect to aviation and currently the India-China route is underserved by Indian carriers. With our plan to operate non-stop daily flights to Chengdu, we are providing the much-needed connectivity between the two destinations. China is a market with immense potential and holds prominent trade, cultural and tourism values. We hope to further strengthen this relation by announcing our entry into China.” Boulter added, “IndiGo will continue to expand its network to meet the requirements of both business and leisure travellers wherever they demand it. It is our constant endeavour to provide more flexibility of choice to our customers as IndiGo continues to offer them on-time, courteous and hassle-free service, and an affordable flying experience.” IndiGo said that it would be opening the sale of tickets for flights on the Delhi-Chengdu route as soon as it secures the requisite regulatory approvals.

Anantara enters untapped market in Chengdu, China

Currently operating 39 hotels and resorts in 13 countries across the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean, Anantara Hotels and Resorts announced its plans to expand the brand’s presence in China this week.
