Cathay Pacific resumes non-stop service from Hyderabad
Cathay Pacific continues to strengthen its network in India with the resumption of its non-stop passenger service from Hyderabad, the capital city of India’s Telangana state. The resumption took flight on Monday, 31st March, and the service operates thrice a week, specifically on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays. This ensures seamless travel connections for customers to Hong Kong and beyond. With this resumption, Cathay Pacific is now operating across five Indian cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. By doing so, the airline cements its role as a key carrier connecting India to its home hub in Hong Kong. The resumption of flights from Hyderabad further underscores the significance of India to Cathay Pacific’s global network. The direct service is being operated by the airline’s Airbus A330-300 aircraft, featuring Business and Economy cabins. Cathay Pacific now operates a total of 39 return passenger flights per week from five destinations in India. This will rise to 43 return flights per week by 1st September, including five flights per week from Hyderabad, double-daily flights from Delhi, ten flights per week from Mumbai, and daily flights from Bengaluru and Chennai. A step in the right direction According to Rakesh Raicar, Cathay’s regional general manager for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa: “Resuming flights to Hyderabad is a significant step in our India expansion strategy. With this resumption, we remain committed to providing Indian travellers with more choice, greater connectivity, and world-class service.” Raicar added that Hyderabad’s economic rise and growing outbound travel demand make it a vital addition to the airline’s global network. He said: “As we continue to enhance our operations, our focus remains on fostering connections: bringing people, businesses, and economies closer, while reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a leading international aviation hub.” GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd CEO Pradeep Panicker likewise expressed his enthusiasm at the route resumption by saying: “The resumption of direct flight services between Hyderabad and Hong Kong represents a significant milestone in our international connectivity. This development will facilitate stronger business ties, tourism, and cultural exchange between these two dynamic regions. Additionally, the resumption introduces valuable belly cargo capacity, allowing us to offer more time-bound solutions for the Hyderabad market, particularly benefiting time-sensitive products such as perishables, mail, and courier services.”

Cathay Pacific makes its way back to Kai Tak Park
Hong Kong’s leading airline Cathay Pacific returns to its roots at its spiritual home Kai Tak Park where it is now the exclusive founding travel partner of the new Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP.) The airline’s new position was announced by executives from Cathay Pacific and KTSP at a ceremony held at the latter’s Health and Wellness Centre. The event was hosted by Cathay Pacific chief customer and commercial officer Lavinia Lau with the likes of KTSP CEO John Sharkey and other luminaries in attendance. Lau said at the event: “Through strategic collaboration with KTSP, we hope to bring together visitors from all over the world to our home by creating immersive experiences that enhance its international profile and celebrate its rich heritage. The exciting line-up of sporting and cultural mega-events at KTSP will surely boost tourism and inspire the people of Hong Kong.” A full slate of activities at a state of the art venue Under the partnership, Cathay Pacific and KTSP are set to launch the first aviation-themed immersive experience in the Greater Bay Area with the Cathay-branded West Bridge, which connects the Sung Wong Toi MTR (metro) station with Kai Tak Stadium. This initiative aims to engage the Hong Kong community and rekindle people’s collective memory of Cathay Pacific’s journey as both an airline and a national institution. Thai said, the new part includes a World Flyer attraction dedicated to Kai Tak Airport: a scaled-down representation of its major facilities to provide a welcoming learning environment for community interaction. KTSP is poised to become the largest integrated sports and entertainment landmark in Hong Kong, delivering sporting, cultural, and entertainment experiences to a global audience. Cathay Pacific and Kai Tak: a storied beginning Before the current Hong Kong International Airport in Chek Lap Kok became the home hub for Cathay Pacific, its home base was the original international airport in Kai Tak. Until July 1998, all of Cathay Pacific’s operations were based at the Kai Tak airport. When the airport moved its operations just a few miles away at Chek Lap Kok, it seemed fitting that the final flight from Kai Tak would be done by a Cathay Pacific Airbus A340-300.

SITA and Cathay Pacific sign agreement to boost network bandwidth
Air transport technologies provider SITA and Cathay Pacific entered a new agreement that supports substantial increases in network bandwidth at its airports, improving current capacity by up to five times while maintaining cost efficiency. This initiative aligns with Cathay Pacific’s strategic direction of increasing adoption of Cloud applications while ensuring optimal performance for legacy systems. SITA president for the Asia Pacific Sumesh Patel said: “This agreement with Cathay Pacific is a true testament of how we are able to help airlines maximize their network infrastructures which are key for their ongoing operations. The fact that Cathay Pacific was one of our first clients for SITA Connect and is now one of the first adopters of SITA Connect Go is a clear sign that our technology is delivering valuable results. Airlines and airport networks in APAC are facing challenges with legacy network infrastructure. SITA Connect Go offers a robust, scalable, and secure SD-WAN platform to meet the need for the growing bandwidth demand and helps airlines shift their focus towards their customers.” Shifting to a new technology Cathay Pacific was an early adopter of the original SITA Connect solution, and this renewed agreement demonstrates its confidence in SITA as it moves to the newly launched SITA Connect Go service. This new collaboration will provide Cathay Pacific with enhanced network connectivity across 51 global airports through the SITA Connect Go at Airports product, which will combine dual Internet connectivity to provide bandwidth ranging up to 300 Mbps. The new contract includes a planned 12-month design, build, test, and implementation period to cover all airports involved in the project. What does SITA Connect Go do? SITA Connect Go will facilitate a substantial bandwidth increase of up to five times the current capacity. This improvement will ensure enhanced efficiency and connectivity while maintaining cost optimization. Using the new SITA airport infrastructure will allow Cathay Pacific to continue its smooth transition to Cloud applications, enhancing overall operational efficiency and scalability. Connect Go also includes three Gateways specifically designed to ensure optimal performance for legacy applications, facilitating the continued use of existing systems while achieving improved performance and connectivity globally. SITA Connect Go has an ultrarapid deployment thanks to SITA’s pre-connected and resilient APH-V infrastructure. This will allow swift implementation of necessary infrastructure and connectivity across Cathay Pacific’s network, reducing downtime and disruption; all this while offering flexible packaging and customizable options, allowing Cathay Pacific to tailor their connectivity requirements based on specific needs, optimizing network services while maintaining cost efficiency. According to Cathay Pacific general manager for IT infrastructure and security Rajeev Nair: “Airlines across the world have a clear need for strong and robust airport infrastructure so that we can center our attention on providing the optimal passenger experience. SITA Connect has been helping us deliver efficient operations at airports for several years and we are confident that this renewed partnership with SITA will allow us to significantly increase the network capacity of our existing network in the most cost-effective way, enabling us to further enhance our operational efficiency and allowing us to continue focusing all our efforts on our customers.” The implementation phase, which began in April 2024, is expected to be completed in early Q2-2025 and become fully operational across 51 airports on the same date.
