Cygnett Hotels rolls out pioneering “Cozzet Collection” model for budget hotels

Cozzet Hotels & Resorts has proudly unveiled its latest venture: the “Cozzet Collection”. Cozzet Hotels & Resorts is affiliated with Cygnett Hotels & Resorts.  The objective is to support small and medium-sized unbranded hotel owners and help them improve their technology, marketing, and business know-how. The economy hotel and resort segment is the fastest-growing sector amidst the broader hospitality sector, however, budget hotels do not have access to the latest technology and business solutions. The “Cozzet Collection” model is designed to address critical constraints for small and medium-sized hotel owners and help them reap the benefits of cutting-edge hospitality solutions. It is the most cost-effective and hassle-free business solution for hotel owners. The company has extensively tested the model and three properties in Himachal Pradesh–a region renowned for stunning landscapes and tranquil retreats–are successfully operating under the “Cozzet Collection” umbrella. Considering the efficiencies unlocked by the model, an increasing number of hotels are signing up effortlessly. It is the need of the hour as owners are getting the benefits of the cost-effective technology from the first day. “Cozzet Collection” is bringing together small and medium-sized independent hotels and resorts to flourish within the organised hospitality industry. This innovative concept addresses the longstanding need for a platform that enhances budget and small-scale hotels, allowing them to access cutting-edge technology and comprehensive marketing support that were once the exclusive domain of larger chains. Sarbendra Sarkar, the visionary Founder & Managing Director of Cygnett Hotels and Resorts & Cozzet Hotels, expressed his enthusiasm for the transformative initiative, "There is immense potential in bringing small hotels from the unorganised sector into the organised hospitality business. We aim to have 10,000 rooms operating under the Cozzet Collection model within the next few years. Our expansion under the brand will include standalone small hotels of less than 40 keys across the country.” Emphasising the pivotal role of technology,  Sarkar highlighted that Cozzet Collection hotels would benefit from advanced integrated cloud PMS, booking engine, distribution technology, and revenue management systems with its user-friendly interface. In addition, owners/managers will receive fundamental training to maximise the effectiveness of these tools. It is an easy-to-operate, plug-and-play model. The 360-degree digital marketing support by the brand helps create an online presence and get optimum benefits. Unlike many competitors, Cozzet Hotels and Resorts is committed to financial transparency. The company will directly transfer room payments to hotel owners' accounts, a move aimed at bolstering liquidity for small businesses. Cozzet Hotels has inherited the DNA of Cygnett Hotels, and adopts its trusted technology and knowledge, and its foray into the transformative venture couldn't come at a more crucial time. With the hospitality industry witnessing a surge in demand for organised services, Cozzet Collection not only addresses the needs of small hotels but also enriches the overall guest experience. As the hospitality industry in India continues to evolve, Cozzet Hotels & Resorts has emerged as a trailblazing force, bridging the gap between the unorganised and organised sectors, and setting new standards for excellence, transparency, and innovation. The Cozzet Collection model and all Cozzet Hotels are poised to redefine hospitality paradigms, offering a fresh perspective to guests and hoteliers alike.

Budget hotels set to benefit from increase in price-sensitive travellers

Price is the most important factor to 47% of consumers when selecting accommodation, according to a poll by GlobalData. The data and analytics company notes that, with less budget for travel but a strong desire to escape, many will turn to budget providers to satisfy their travel cravings. Gus Gardner, associate travel and tourism analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Budget hotel operators will be well-positioned to benefit from an increase in bargain-hunting travellers looking for the cheapest accommodation possible. With many countries still only permitting outbound travel to a handful of countries and domestic holidays booming in the short term, accommodation prices have risen. Research conducted by consumer group Which? revealed that UK breaks were 35% more expensive this year than last year. Therefore, travellers will be looking for a bargain among a sea of inflated rates.” GlobalData’s consumer survey (Q1 2021) showed that travellers are more price-sensitive than before the pandemic, which is unsurprising given that 87% of global respondents expressed that they were concerned about their personal financial position during the pandemic. Gardner continues:“The pandemic has placed a considerable strain on travellers’ finances. Despite this, travel demand is still high, and many are looking to escape in desperate need for a change of scenery. Travellers are more likely to trade extras offered at mid-to upper-scale hotels for a more basic ‘pay for what you need’ service standard.” The same GlobalData poll showed that ‘prestige and loyalty offered’ was the least important factor when selecting a hotel/accommodation. Many upscale hotels have invested in developing a loyal following. However, the pandemic has caused a shift in traveller sentiment that could impact this type of investment. Gardner adds: “The financial squeeze from the pandemic will likely push travellers to budget travel options, forgoing loyalty benefits in the process. To counteract the shift towards budget alternatives, mid to upper-scale hotels should focus their efforts on price promotions. Offering additional discounts for loyalty program members, freebies, or free upgrades could entice those looking to make their stay more comfortable despite a depleted travel budget. “As travel begins to return, post-pandemic travellers are likely to have reduced funds, and budget hotels will benefit. Price promotions and incentives could be a crucial strategy for mid to upper-scale hotels to counteract this trend, however, travelers are more likely to be influenced by price in the initial travel recovery period.”

Accor will unveil 13 new ibis budget hotels in Singapore after having inked a deal with Global Premium Hotels. The hotels, rebranded from existing Fragrance hotels, will be progressively available for booking through the company’s distribution network commencing from this month. The conclusion of this partnership cements Accor’s position as the largest hotel operator in Singapore, bringing its total inventory to 7,625 rooms across 30 hotels. The company offers 3,357 rooms in the luxury and premium space, 1,840 in midscale and a further 2,428 in economy. In addition, the two Parc Sovereign hotels will commence renovation plans towards the end of 2019 and will be rebranded to become one Mercure and one ibis Styles hotel by mid-2020. “With its nifty and modern design, these new ibis budget hotels spread across central and suburban locations in Singapore are perfect for savvy business or leisure travellers. Featuring cosy rooms for one, two or three people and conveniently located near leisure attractions such as Gardens by the Bay, Clarke Quay, Mount Faber and Sentosa Island, these new additions to our network in the city offer wider choices to guests looking for a short break or weekend getaway,” said Garth Simmons, chief operating officer in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and south Asia at Accor. Ko Lee Meng, chief executive of Global Premium Hotels said: “Having provided quality accommodation and great value to visitors to Singapore these past 20 years, the rebranding and enhancement of our existing properties marks not just another milestone for our group, but an evolution in our business and a boost to our expansion strategy.”

Chinese media giant Tencent to invest in Indian budget hotel start-up OYO Rooms

Tencent Holdings is in talks to lead a financing round of between USD 300 million to USD 500 million in Indian budget hotel brand OYO Rooms, valuing OYO at over US$2 billion according to a report. OYO partners with budget hotels, including guesthouses and low ranking hotels, and standardises their rooms and services under OYO’s brand name. About 90% of the company’s revenue comes from room bookings. In January 2017, it launched OYO Townhouse, targeting millennial customers and local residents who use the property as an alternative workspace. TownHouse hotels also have retail stores and cafes. OYO Rooms recently bagged the top prize at The Economic Times Startup Awards 2018, garnering praise for its ability to blaze new trails both within and outside the country. It has been an eventful year for the Gurgaon-based startup, which now has 90,000 rooms under management in India, becoming the market leader by a wide margin in the process. In late 2017, it also launched OYO Home, an Airbnb-like marketplace for short-term rentals. The company has operations in India, Malaysia, UAE, Nepal, Indonesia and China. It entered China in June and already operates in 47 cities with more than 35,000 rooms. OYO’s story is also about a mighty turnaround. From listing part of hotel properties to pivoting to a fully managed, inventory-led business, the company has scaled up at a stunning pace. It has scooped up millions of dollars from some of the biggest global investors including Japan’s SoftBank Corp and Sequoia Capital India, among others in the past. This round of funding is set to expand its overseas footprint. In 2017, OYO raised a USD 250 million series D round led by SoftBank Group, and participated by Sequoia Capital, China’s Lightspeed Venture Partners. Huazhu Hotels Group Ltd., a Chinese hotel management company previously known as China Lodging, also made a US$10 million strategic investment last September. "South Asia’s largest hospitality company" CEO and founder of OYO rooms, Ritesh Agarwal said, “2018 has so far been an exponential year; with more than 1,00,000 unique keys and our expansion to China market, we have emerged as South-Asia’s largest hospitality company. We are determined to take the number in OYO India to 1,80,000 by end of 2018". India’s startup industry is keenly watching how OYO’s China foray will unfold. So far, no Indian consumer company has entered the world’s second-largest economy, China, and arguably, the toughest market to compete in worldwide.

Indian budget hotel IndiSmart endorses RateTiger for online distribution

Kolkata-based IndiSmart Hotel has endorsed RateTiger for simplifying online distribution. The property has been using eRevMax’s cloud-based Channel Manager and Shopper product for managing their online sales channels and has improved their business operational efficiency. IndiSmart is a budget hotel with 76 rooms, located in the IT hub of Kolkata, India. The property caters to business travellers and hence the booking window is less than the usual duration, at 48-72 hours. Given most bookings are coming from the online channel, it’s important for the hotel to have real-time rate and availability on OTAs. A travel technology company that assists hotels through channel management, rate intelligence and connectivity solutions, eRevMax connects multiple online channels to the hotels’ PMSs to seamlessly deliver ARI updates and reservations. "Rate shopping also helps us to analyse the market condition" “We have been able to bring all OTA channels under one window for all possible modifications like rate and inventory. The option of changing rates and inventory at any point of time on a single click has really made online distribution really simple. Rate shopping also helps us to analyse the market condition, to understand our stand and projection,” said Jayanta Bhattacherjee, front office manager, Indismart Hotel. Prior to RateTiger, the hotel has tried other solutions. However, the result was not satisfactory. “The main issue was rate disparity and manifold changes in the extranets manually were really cumbersome. We can handle the OTAs easily and in a better way now with RateTiger. The support team is very good as well,” concluded Bhattacherjee. eRevMax offers seamless connectivity with over 350 OTAs and 80 technology providers. The company continues to invest in its connectivity solutions to offer sophisticated real-time revenue management functionality to the hospitality industry. This includes solutions for the independent market and scaling up through the Tier One enterprise hotel groups. eRevMax's Channel Ecosystem facilitates quality certified connectivity and relationship management services to support complex revenue generation strategies. eRevMax works closely with over 350 channel and technology partners assisting over 9000 hotels worldwide to increase revenue opportunities and streamline business processes. It is the connectivity partner of choice for large hotel groups, mid-scale chains as well as independent properties in both luxury and budget segment worldwide providing solutions through its core product brands – RateTiger and LiveOS.
