THAI, THAI Smile, and TAT join hands to fly Indian travellers to Thailand
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), THAI, and THAI Smile Airways are promoting Thai tourism in the Indian market. According to Suvadhana Sibunruang, acting THAI CEO, following the international border reopening in various countries, air travel and tourism industry has shown a positive sign of recovery. THAI, THAI Smile, and TAT signed the LOI to enhance travel experience and develop marketing activities for the Indian market, to offer passengers with privileges and joint promotion especially for leisure, golfer, visiting friends and relatives (VFR) and wedding travellers, and to exchange the information in tourism industry for sustainable development in the industry. In 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic), 1.9 million travellers from India generated more than 8.5 billion baht revenue in Thailand. This collaboration is expected to boost the recovery of Thai tourism businesses and Thai economy after the pandemic. In addition to the collaboration in the Indian market, THAI operates flights in over 34 continental and intercontinental routes in its summer 2022 schedule. Passengers may travel further with THAI Smile and Star Alliance member airlines. Flight frequencies may increase in response to the growing travel demand and the government’s upcoming policy. Napintorn Srisunpang, vice minister for tourism and sports, said the Indian market is the significant market in Southern Asia both in market size and tourist purchasing power. This market is necessary for every country driven by tourism economy. This collaboration is the opportunity to boost the recovery of the Indian market following the Air Travel Bubble agreement between Thailand and India. According to the Economics Tourism and Sports Division, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in 2019, Thailand welcomed 1,995,516 inbound tourists from India, 24.85% higher, and earned 86,372.01 million baht, an increase of 27.45%. This reflects the potential of the Indian market. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT deputy governor for international marketing in Asia and South Pacific, said as part of the “Visit Thailand Year 2022” campaign, TAT will focus on quality inbound tourists from this particular market through celebrities and influencers marketing to the millennials target audience. TAT Delhi and Mumbai offices will also notify local tour agents about Thailand’s immigration measures and new travel products and services to plan the joint promotion activities for luxurious tourists.
THAI Smile flies to Ahmedabad
THAI Smile will introduce direct flights to from Bangkok to Ahmedabad effective from 29 October. Based in Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, the new service gives the airline seven destination in India. Charita Leelayudth, chief executive officer of THAI Smile Airways said the airline recognised the importance of the Indian travel market and currently serves it with 38 weekly flights to seven cities. The destinations are Gaya, Varanasi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. “We have enjoyed growth in both inbound and outbound passenger numbers which have led to the increasing cabin factor on every route. In some periods this year, the cabin factor rose to more than 85%. Overall, THAI Smile has seen a growth of around 20% on its Indian routes,” said Leelayudth.
Starry connections: Thai Smile joins Star Alliance
The regional subsidiary of Thai Airways, Thai Smile is set to become Star Alliance’s second Connecting Partner airline. The Connecting Partner programme was launched in 2016 to fill gaps in regional connections between the alliance’s full member airlines. As a Connecting Partner, Thai Smile does not need to fulfil commercial relationships with all full members but partner with just three. "This will support us in further strengthening our position as the leading airline alliance network" It will meet these criteria by the end of the year, Star Alliance said. Thai Smile will add 11 destinations to the alliance’s network which spans 194 countries. “Thai Smile is set to become the next Star Alliance Connecting Partner, which will support us in further strengthening our position as the leading airline alliance network,” said Jeffrey Goh, CEO, Star Alliance. The Bangkok-based carrier operates an all-Airbus fleet of A320 aircraft. The first Star Alliance Connecting Partner was Juneyao Airlines.
THAI and Thai Smile increase flights for public participation in royal cremation
Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) and Thai Smile Airways will increase flights in order that the Thai public nationwide may participate in the royal cremation ceremony of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Mrs. Usanee Sangsingkeo, acting president, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), said that as the Thai Government has declared 26 October 2017 a public holiday, THAI and that Thai Smile will increase flights to enable Thai mourners across Thailand to participate in His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s cremation ceremony. The following additional domestic flights will be operated from 23-31 October 2017 in order to facilitate the increase in passenger travel: THAI: Increase flights from Bangkok-Phuket at 11 round trip flights per day, Bangkok-Chiang Mai at five round trip flights per day, operating a total of 144 flights or over 90,000 passenger seats. Thai Smile: Increase flights from Bangkok-Udon Thani at five round trip flights per day, Bangkok-Hat Yai at eight round trip flights per day, Bangkok-Surat Thani at three round trip flights per day, Bangkok-Narathiwat at two round trip flights per day, operating a total of 440 flights or over 72,000 passenger seats. SIA, Thai Smile top TripAdvisor’s airline rankings
Singapore Airlines and Thai Smile topped the Asian rankings in TripAdvisor's first ever Travellers' Choice awards for airlines, while Emirates was the world's highest-rated carrier. In total, 50 airlines were listed in the global ratings, divided into four regions and an overall world table. The top airlines were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality their TripAdvisor reviews and ratings over a 12-month period. Thai Smile was named Asia Pacific's top regional or low-cost carrier Singapore Airlines was named the best "major airline" in the Asia Pacific region, followed by Air New Zealand and Korean Air. Thai Smile, the subsidiary of Thai Airways, was named the region's top "regional or low-cost carrier", ahead of Bangkok Airways and IndiGo. “We are proud to announce the inaugural Travellers’ Choice awards for airlines, to help travellers make the most well-informed air travel decisions, based on the experiences of the global TripAdvisor community,” said Bryan Saltzburg, senior vice president & general manager for TripAdvisor Flights. “The airline industry is investing billions of dollars in new aircraft and service enhancements to differentiate the flying experience and these awards recognise the carriers offering the very best experiences and value to the traveling public.” On a global level, Emirates was named as the world's highest-rated airline, followed by SIA and Brazil's Azul. JetBlue, the US-based low-cost carrier, was fourth, ahead of Air New Zealand in fifth. The top 10 was completed by Korean Air, Japan Airlines, Thai Smile, Alaska Airlines and Garuda Indonesia. “We are certain outbound travel from Thailand will sustain good growth”: Lufthansa brings A380 to Land of Smiles
Lufthansa Group is expanding its capacity for Thailand on its Bangkok to Frankfurt route by using the world's largest aircraft, the Airbus A380. It is the only European carrier operating the A380 to Thailand, demonstrating its commitment to excellent service and a one-of-a-kind travel experience. The expanded service targets both Thai customers and international visitors to Thailand seeking a unique flying experience on long-haul flights to and from Europe. Stefan Molnar, Lufthansa Group’s general manager in Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and the Mekong Region, said: "Lufthansa remains highly committed and confident about Thailand. It is a very important market for us. Last year we welcomed 800.000 passengers on flights to and from Thailand. We are certain outbound travel from Thailand will sustain good growth.” Currently, Lufthansa Group serves Thailand with four airlines: Austrian, Swiss, Eurowings and Lufthansa. Together they offer customers 31 weekly flights between Thailand and some of the most important cities in Europe: Frankfurt, Vienna, Zurich and Munich that has the only European five-star airport. Lufthansa initially increased capacity by going from the Boeing 747-400 to the Airbus A380 during the 2017/18 winter schedule. This is the third season Lufthansa is operating an A380 on the Frankfurt-Bangkok route. First Class offers passengers exclusivity and privacy with only eight seats and premium features.
