Hong Kong Airlines’ inaugural flight between Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia, departed recently, making it the second local airline to operate this route and providing greater travel options for business, leisure, and transit passengers. Prior to departure, a launch ceremony was held at the boarding gate of the HKIA. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Jeff Sun, President of Hong Kong Airlines; Ian McGraw from the Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong; Carmen Tam and Vivien Yuen from Tourism Australia; Jennifer Tung from Destination New South Wales; and Ricky Chong from Airport Authority Hong Kong. The guests interacted with passengers and presented them with bespoke souvenirs to commemorate the historic occasion. Sydney is not only a popular destination for leisure and business travel but also one of Australia's most vital economic hubs. The expansion of the bilateral traffic rights agreement allows us to offer more choice to travellers in both cities, strengthening the connection between them." He added, "While Hong Kong Airlines may be a younger brand in the mature Australian market, we are endeavouring in our commitment to providing quality service. We operate this route with our Airbus A330 aircraft, featuring comfortable business and economy class cabins, and strive to deliver a passenger-centric in-flight experience through attentive service and fine dining for our long-haul customers." Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton said: “We’re proud to welcome Hong Kong Airlines to Sydney as our 52nd airline partner with its strong reputation for service excellence, efficiency and value. This inaugural service comes on the back of the first expansion in bilateral air traffic rights between Australia and Hong Kong in 19 years and we thank the Albanese Federal Government for its role in enabling this important agreement, which reflects the strength of our longstanding cultural and economic ties.” NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper, said: “Hong Kong is a priority international market for NSW, with incoming travellers contributing substantially to the NSW visitor economy. The Minns Labor Government has made it very clear; we want to grow our visitor economy and the best way to do this is by increasing airline capacity and unlocking new international markets for NSW. We’ve set our sights on increasing the state’s aviation capacity by 8.5 million seats, and this new Hong Kong route will complement other new routes we’re securing as we work towards landing this goal.” Wang Yu, Consul General of People's Republic of China (Sydney), said: "As the second Hong Kong-based airline to operate the Hong Kong–Sydney route, Hong Kong Airlines not only provides a convenient new option for traveling between China and Australia, but also contributes to enhanced exchanges among students, tourists, business professionals and friends from all walks of life. This new service will strengthen Hong Kong and Sydney’s role as vital gateways for the flow of people and goods, injecting fresh momentum into the economic and cultural ties between China and Australia. Its launch will also attract more international travelers to transit through Hong Kong or Sydney, further strengthening both cities’ positions as global aviation hubs and creating new opportunities for trade and investment. Looking ahead, the Consulate-General of China in Sydney will continue to encourage and support airlines from both China and Australia in restoring or launching new routes based on the principle of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. We believe that Hong Kong Airlines will continuously enhance its service quality and showcase a good corporate image." Coupled with the various significant destinations that have been inaugurated or reinstated since the start of the year, including Gold Coast in Australia, Vancouver in Canada, and Hulunbuir in Inner Mongolia of mainland China, the airline has cultivated a more extensive and diversified route map. TFE Hotels reveals a new look for the Adina Town Hall in Sydney

TFE Hotels officially reopened Adina Town Hall, introducing a refined, apartment-style accommodation experience in the heart of the CBD. The property’s refurbishment is part of TFE Hotels’ ongoing revitalisation of first-generation properties under the Adina brand. Designed by Bates Smart, the newly refurbished 144-room Adina Town Hall blends timeless elegance with contemporary comfort, offering business and leisure travellers a stylish and spacious retreat just moments from Sydney's top attractions. According to Brenton Smith, interior design director for Bates Smart: "We wanted the rooms at Adina Town Hall to feel like a home away from home. In the layouts, we opted for simple solutions that are attractive, like removing walls and joinery and adding portals to create height and visual focal points.” Warmth and elegance all at once Smith pointed out the use of soft high-quality materials, an element that evokes the warmth of an upmarket apartment.  He said: “Less is definitely more with these designs, and the result is a space that exudes elegance and makes guests feel at home.” Adina Town Hall's lobby design mirrors this approach, creating a welcoming arrival experience with a lounge-style setting.  Strong focal points, curved furniture, and bespoke joinery soften the geometry, making the space feel inviting, Smith explains. Positive feedback The comforting aspect of the overall design is a fact not lost on Adina's first guest arrivals, as TFE Hotels’ regional general manager Emma Soutter noted how early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Soutter said: “The kitchen is the heart of the home, and Bates Smart has designed spaces where guests can entertain, relax, and feel at ease, whether in their apartment or in the hotel's lobby lounge. It's an approach that is really resonating with our guests.” The reimagined Adina Town Hall joins a new wave of elevated Adina properties, including Adina Pentridge Melbourne and Adina Geneva, as well as recent refurbishments in Melbourne on Flinders and Chippendale in Sydney.  More first-generation Adinas, including Adina Darling Harbour, are set to be refurbished in the coming months.

Sydney is set to host a number of illustrious events and, in mid-February, five spectacular events line up to make an unforgettable summer weekend.  Whether its sport, musicals or festivals, Sydney brings together the greatest events. Sporting events for February An Olympic-standard sailing event within Sydney harbour  Summer sees Sydney's Harbour at its dreamy, sunny best and on the weekend of 8-9 February, it's the spectacular frame for round three of one of the world's most anticipated sailing events, the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix Sydney. Some of the world's greatest sailors (the same names that occupy the America's Cup and the Olympics rosters) are set to race around the spectacular waters between Bradleys Head, Point Piper, Clark Island and Steele Point (within Vaucluse's Nielsen Park). Last season Australia won the home leg, but Spain narrowly edged the Aussies in the end of season leaderboard. This season the Aussies will be looking to lock down the Sydney race to help them reclaim a title they won three times in a row before last season.   The return of the world's most prestigious combat event  After the 13-minute sell-out success of UFC 293, the most valuable worldwide combat sport returns to Sydney on 9th February. The iconic stage, The Octagon, will once again transform Qudos Bank Arena into a battle spectacle for UFC 312, featuring Australia's best fighters taking on world champions and the UFC's hottest new prospects across a range of weight classes. After the fireworks of 2023's Middleweight Championship bout between Adesanya vs Strickland, expect upsets, glory, agony and new storylines delivering a new champion their place in history.   The return of the world's greatest hockey league  For the first time in two years, the most prestigious annual hockey competition, the Men's FIH Pro League, returns to Sydney. From 4th to 9th February, Sydney Olympic Park's Hockey Centre will be the epic stage for one of the most important rounds of the 2024/2025 season, with last year's champions, Australia, taking on their rivals and last season's runner up, the Netherlands. Joining the round robin is Spain, a dark horse who will be eager to avenge their thrilling 4-3 losses to both Australia and the Netherlands last season. If any of the three countries can take maximum points from the six clashes, odds will be on for them to take the coveted FIH Pro League title.  Offerings for a tuneful month Charli XCX to bring Brat Summer to Centennial Park  Since Laneway Sydney launched in 2006 with the Broken Social Scene and Gossip playing to a modest crowd at Circular Quay, it has exploded into a festival of international renown, moving to the famous grounds of the Centennial Parklands and inviting names like Billie Eilish, Fred Again, Stormzy, Aldous Harding, and Florence and the Machine. On 9 February this year, the irreverent, youth-championing music festival continues on the same path, as its stage will be graced by none other than pop culture phenomenon Charli XCX, along with huge indie names Clairo and Beabadoobee, and electronic innovators Bicep and Barry Can't Swim.   Hadestown makes its Australian debut Winner of a Tony Award for best musical in 2019 and behind only Hamilton as one of the most nominated musicals in a single year, Hadestown's Sydney premiere is one of the most anticipated shows to hit Australian shores. Opening on 10 February in the historic Theatre Royal Sydney, which first opened in 1833, the musical retells the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice in a modern context.
