Indonesia Convention Exhibition triumphs at TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2025 – Indonesia
The event venue took home two awards for introducing upgrades for smarter events and conferences. Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE BSD) proved yet again its reputation as the country’s most advanced event venue as it bagged the Facilities Upgrade of the Year - Indonesia and Meetings & Conferencing Property of the Year - Indonesia categories at the TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2025 - Indonesia. Smarter, seamless events ICE BSD rolled out a series of strategic upgrades that have made events smoother, more flexible, and more visitor-friendly. These improvements include advanced hall partitions as well as 24 new LED screens across its pre-function areas, which make event organising easier whilst boosting visibility for branding and sponsors. The opening of the Serpong–Balaraja (Serbaraja) Toll Road also now allows visitors to access the venue more easily by cutting down travel time and reducing congestion during major events. But beyond facilities, ICE meets the growing demand for all-in-one event services with the launch of the ICE Events under PT Indonesia International Expo (IIE). This new division brings together four key services, namely ICE Creation, ICE Production, ICE Partnership, and Oh My Food, which is the food tenant management. With this 360° service approach, clients can plan, produce, and run complex events without the hassle of dealing with multiple vendors. ICE also has international certifications, including ISO 9001:2015 for quality management and HACCP standards for food safety, which ensure that it maintains high standards in cleanliness, layout, and operations. These features and enhancements led to ICE earning an impressive 4.4 out of 5 rating at the recent 2025 client satisfaction survey. Integrated venue solutions ICE BSD spans 22 hectares in the heart of BSD City, with all spaces supported by in-house banquet services for up to 10,000 guests. The event venue features 10 large halls, 33 meeting rooms, and the 4,000 m² Nusantara Convention Hall. Its parking can house over 12,000 vehicles, also offering on-site dining at SALT by ICE and is integrated with the four-star Santika Premier Hotel. It is just minutes away from the Serbaraja Toll Road, Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, and commuter rail lines, with its surrounding area providing access to over 2,000 hotel rooms, more than 20 malls, and entertainment venues. ICE has welcomed over 17 million visitors and hosted more than 3,500 events since its opening in 2015. In 2025 alone, it hosted the IPA Convex 2025, which is Southeast Asia’s largest oil & gas convention. ICE welcomed over 35,000 participants from 51 countries. The event was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Mr Prabowo Subianto, with ICE coordinating closely with the Presidential Security Force for a high-security event. In response to the continuous growth of client expectations, ICE has focused on offering smart solutions to be a trusted partner. Owned and managed by PT Indonesia International Expo (IIE), a joint venture between Kompas-Gramedia Group and Sinar Mas Group, ICE continues to play a key role in advancing Indonesia’s MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry. These exemplary features have allowed ICE BSD to lead and redefine the future of meetings and conferences in Indonesia. Companies staying flexible and true to Indonesia’s identity will thrive – Horwath HTL’s Matt Gebbie
He believes the standout leaders will be those who balance authenticity with strong service standards. Indonesia’s tourism and hospitality sector is undergoing a significant transformation, with companies challenged to innovate, prioritise sustainability, and deliver authentic experiences that connect with travellers in a competitive market. Offering valuable insights is Matt Gebbie, Director at Howarth HTL in Jakarta, Indonesia. He has extensive experience in hospitality consulting across the Asia-Pacific region, including Indonesia, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, the Maldives, South Korea, and Singapore. He has led market and financial feasibility studies for hotels, resorts, serviced apartments, and golf courses, whilst also advising hotel owners on management company selection, valuations, and operational reviews. Matt is also a recognised thought leader in the industry, having spoken at numerous tourism and hotel investment conferences and published articles on hospitality topics. As a judge at the TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2025 - Indonesia, Matt shared his views on what sets Indonesia apart as a travel destination and how companies can adapt in this competitive landscape. From your perspective as someone who works extensively across Asia, what strengths set Indonesia apart as a tourism destination? What really makes Indonesia stand out is the variety—you’ve got everything from Bali’s beaches and temples, to dramatic volcanoes, to islands that still feel completely untouched. It’s not just the landscapes, though. The culture and traditions are so rich and diverse, every island feels like its own unique destination. That’s why travellers keep coming back—they always find something new. And of course, the warmth and hospitality of the people are a huge part of the appeal. How are changing traveller expectations influencing hotel and resort development in Indonesia? Travellers today want more than just a nice room—they’re looking for experiences that feel local, sustainable, and personal. Hotels are incorporating cultural touches, wellness spaces, and smart technology that make life easier for guests. People also expect flexibility—places that can be social but private when you want them to be. Food, design, and activities are all shifting to show off what’s unique about Indonesia. It’s definitely pushing developers to be more creative than before. In what ways can Indonesian operators leverage market trends to create innovative offerings and attract investment? There’s a big opportunity in sustainability and wellness—investors love it, and travellers demand it. Indonesian operators can shine by protecting the environment, involving local communities, and still delivering a great experience. The domestic market is another strength—it’s grown so much and adds stability when international travel slows. Working with international brands can help with reach, but keeping that Indonesian identity is what makes it authentic. Mixed-use projects that blend hospitality, lifestyle, and residential elements are also proving attractive. In your view, what strategies can help local travel companies strengthen their position against regional and international competition? Local companies know Indonesia better than anyone—that’s their edge. By curating genuinely local experiences that can’t be found elsewhere, they can create a strong point of difference. At the same time, tech is critical—digital marketing, booking platforms, and data all help to level the playing field. Partnerships with airlines and global networks boost reach, too. In the end, the winners will be those who balance authenticity with strong service standards. As the industry grows, what trends should travel companies in Indonesia prioritise to remain resilient? Sustainability has to be front and centre—it’s about protecting the very things people come here to see. Digital transformation is another must, making sure companies can connect with customers wherever they are. The domestic traveller base has become really important, and tailoring products for them is a smart move. Wellness and regenerative travel are also becoming key as travellers look for trips that are good for them and the destination. If companies stay flexible and true to Indonesia’s identity, they’ll remain strong. As a judge for the TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2025 - Indonesia, what key criteria will you prioritise when evaluating the nominees? I’ll be looking for companies that aren’t just doing business as usual, but really pushing the industry forward. Innovation and creativity matter, but so does impact—whether that’s for guests, communities, or the environment. Adapting to traveller expectations, especially personalisation and technology, will be important too. Strong ethics and a long-term view count as much as commercial success. The standouts will be the ones that show they can grow sustainably whilst also contributing to Indonesia’s wider tourism story.
Indonesia implements All Indonesia digital arrival card
Indonesia is now the latest country to implement a digital arrival card for those travelling in through its air and sea ports. The new All Indonesia online travel declaration system began running on 1st September and is now mandatory for travellers arriving at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Bali’s Denpasar Airport, and the Juanda International Airport in Surabaya. Authorities further announced that the new system will be rolled out to all other international airports throughout Indonesia by 1st October. What is the All Indonesia digital arrival card? All Indonesia is a centralised system integrating all processes related to immigration, customs, health, and quarantine forms into a single digital platform. By doing so, Indonesia significantly reduces its carbon footprint by doing away with the use of paper forms, and also enhances efficiency and convenience. That said, travellers may fill up their respective arrival cards online through the official website or via the All Indonesia mobile app. Available in Bahasa Indonesia, English, and Chinese, the platform is designed to be accessible to travellers from around the world. While QR codes will still be available for scanning at immigration checkpoints on arrival, it is best to submit the declaration up to three days before arrival for added convenience upon arrival. Note that filling up the card is mandatory even for travellers eligible for visa-free entry to Indonesia, and it is free of charge.

With a target of welcoming 800,000 Indian travelers this year, the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia is positioning the country as a premier tropical destination for leisure, culture, and wellness. Ahead of the three-day trade show, the Ministry of Tourism hosted Business Matching sessions in Kolkata on 27th August and again in Bengaluru on 29th August 29. Through ITB India, we want to strengthen Indonesia's brand positioning and ensure our destinations remain top-of-mind for Indian travelers." As India's outbound travel market continues to surge, projected to hit 29 million international trips by 2025, Indonesia's presence at ITB India underscores its commitment to becoming a leading destination for Indian tourists seeking nature, culture, and regenerative travel experiences. What to expect from Indonesia at ITB India From 2nd to 4th September at ITB India 2025, the Wonderful Indonesia Pavilion will feature 20 leading sellers from Jakarta, Bali, and Yogyakarta along with immersive experiences designed to captivate global buyers. Beyond Bali, Indonesia is spotlighting its ten Priority Destinations which include Lake Toba, Borobudur, Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Raja Ampat, and Labuan Bajo, as well as three emerging Regenerative Destinations: Bali, Jakarta, and Batam-Bintan. Visitors will also discover Indonesia's rich wellness heritage, as the pavilion will showcase jamu, Indonesia's traditional herbal drink, reimagined for modern lifestyles by Acaraki. Attendees can also enjoy daily tastings, cultural performances, and hands-on workshops such as batik art, underlining how heritage and creativity merge to shape Indonesia's unique tourism offerings. Indonesian tourism deputy minister for marketing Ni Made Ayu Marthini remarked: "Indonesia is naturally aligned with wellness tourism thanks to its ancient healing traditions, diverse cultures, and breathtaking landscapes. Our participation at ITB India is not only about showcasing destinations, but also about inspiring Indian travellers to experience Indonesia in deeper, more meaningful ways."

Indonesia and Malaysia reinforce tourism partnership through a sales mission in Jakarta
(Photo: Bernama) Southeast Asian neighbours Indonesia and Malaysia recently boosted their tourism ties through a Sales Mission in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta) which focused on Melaka as a key destination. In a statement to Malaysian national news agency Bernama, the Johor Bahru Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia said the three-day programme held from 19th to 21st August was jointly organised by them and Jakarta’s local government. The event enabled 33 Melaka tourism industry players and 25 operators from DKI Jakarta to meet and discuss relevant matters. Also on hand were representatives of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia Inbound Tour Operator Association, Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association Jakarta, and the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents. Shared culture, shared goals In his opening remarks, Johor Bahru consul-general Sigit S Widiyanto emphasised that ties between Jakarta and Melaka extend beyond economic collaboration to shared history and culture. Widyanto said: “The two cities are like twin siblings born of the same maritime spice route. Tourism cooperation is not just about visitor numbers but also about strengthening cultural bonds and understanding,.” The programme aims to spur the development of new tourism packages built around historical and cultural narratives, particularly the maritime trade links that once connected Jakarta and Melaka. Widyanto added that, with this spirit of collaboration, the initiative is expected to create a sustainable, mutually beneficial tourism ecosystem while strengthening regional solidarity in Southeast Asia.
