Korean Air introduces Premium Class aboard its Boeing 777-300ER fleet

Korean Air will introduce Premium Class service on its newly retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER, with the first flights launching on short- and mid-haul routes starting from mid-September.  As part of this launch, Korean Air has invested approximately KRW 300 billion to fully retrofit 11 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with completely redesigned cabins, bringing them in line with the airline’s latest aircraft interiors and onboard technology. The launch of Premium Class coincides with a complete interior overhaul of the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER fleet. Inspired by the design of Korean Air’s latest aircraft, the updated cabins offer a refreshed, modern experience across all classes.  The aircraft now feature Korean Air’s newest seating products including Prestige Suites 2.0 in a 1-2-1 configuration for Prestige Class, and New Economy in a 3-4-3 layout.  In a statement, the airline declared: “We’re committed to bringing the fully redesigned Boeing 777-300ER and new Premium Class to as many customers as possible. This fleet upgrade has been in progress since 2018 and, after delays due to the pandemic, we’re proud to now offer an elevated travel experience that meets our passengers’ evolving needs.”  A new standard for inflight comfort Premium Class is positioned between the airline’s Prestige and Economy Classes, offering more spacious seating and upgraded service.  While pricing varies by route and travel dates, fares are generally around 110 percent of normal Economy fares.   The new cabin features 40 seats in a 2-4-2 layout, designed for greater comfort. Premium Class offers approximately 50 percent more space than existing Economy Class seats, with a seat pitch of about 1 metre, offering more space than many premium economy products offered by major global airlines.  Seats are about 50 cm wide, recline up to 130 degrees, and come equipped with both leg and footrests.  The seats also feature ergonomic headrests for gentle support and include wing-shaped sides to provide a greater sense of privacy from adjacent passengers.  Passengers can enjoy an enhanced in-flight entertainment experience with 15.6-inch 4K resolution screens, which are larger than the previous monitors in Prestige Class on the same aircraft. On international routes, Premium Class passengers will enjoy a refined single-tray meal service, including a main course dish, appetizer, and dessert from the Prestige Class menu, served on Armani/Casa tableware.  Beverages, including wine, coffee, and tea, are the same as those served in Prestige Class.  Premium Class passengers will also benefit from priority ground services, including access to Morning Calm check-in counters, priority baggage handling and Sky Priority boarding. Wi-Fi is available across all cabins, and in-flight entertainment systems have been significantly upgraded.

Air New Zealand B777-300ER Returns From 600 Days Of Grounding

One of Air New Zealand’s Boeing 777-300ER jets returned to service after being grounded due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the whole fleet. The B777-300ER is the largest aircraft in New Zealand’s flag carrier fleet. According to Cirium, the number one source of aviation and air travel data, the airline has seven of these planes in storage. AKL Airport stated on social media that a two-hour test flight of ZK-OKQ, the All Blacks-themed jet, was completed on 8 February 2022, after about 600 days in hibernation. According to FlightRadar24, the first scheduled flight has been to Melbourne on 10 February 2022. Eight of Air New Zealand’s 777-200s have been decommissioned in 2020, and the larger 777-300s will be phased out by the 787 Dreamliner by the end of the decade as well. Air New Zealand intends to retire its Boeing 777 aircraft by the end of the decade and replace them with 787 Dreamliners that it has already ordered from Boeing. According to the local news, the aircraft will exclusively carry freight between New Zealand, Australia, and Los Angeles to export food from New Zealand across the world. If demand permits, the airline aims to bring back additional B777-300ER planes. Air New Zealand chief operational integrity and safety officer David Morgan told the NZ Herald, “It’s a positive sign that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and while it’s only flying cargo, to begin with, we are hopeful that as the border restrictions continue to ease, we will be welcoming customers back on board soon,” Morgan says. According to Morgan, “Our cargo company is in the middle of its busiest season with New Zealand products in great demand throughout the globe, so this additional 40 tonnes of belly capacity is a much-needed boost for New Zealand exporters.” As a result of the pandemic, New Zealand has closed its borders, significantly limiting the operations of Air New Zealand. Prime Minister Jacinda Arden announced a five-step plan to open borders on 3 February 2022, beginning with allowing Kiwis to return from Australia on 28 February 2022. According to Air New Zealand, the first day of travel for flights between Australia and New Zealand was almost sold out as of 4 February 2022.

Avation PLC's first aeroplane, a 777-300ER (Extended Range), was the newest addition to the fleet of Philippine Airlines (PAL). This delivery has increased the Southeast Asia-based flag carrier's 777-300ER aircraft count to 10, and also marks the first twin-aisle delivery for the leasing company of Boeing. PAL recently received its ninth 777-300ER directly from the aviation technology firm and will use both planes on its trans-Pacific flights immediately. Jeff Chatfield, Avation PLC executive chairman, shared, ‘We are pleased our first twin-aisle delivery is a 777-300ER, the marquee aircraft in its class. We are confident this will both complement our regional and single-aisle fleet and will prove helpful to our growth as a full-service commercial aircraft lessor.’ ‘The new aircraft will serve our long-haul operations,’ remarked Jaime Bautista, PAL president & chief operating officer. ‘While we already have eight 777s serving the West Coast, the incoming units will also augment other flights between the Philippines and North America.’ Bautista added that PAL’s 777 aeroplanes are vital to its long-haul operations. ‘These 777s have the range, the operational capability and the ability to enhance the total passenger travel experience and in-flight service delivery,' he said. 'These aircraft help PAL to keep up with other full-service carriers along the route.’ As the most successful twin-engine, long-haul aircraft in current history, the 777-300ER is equipped with the world's most powerful GE90-115B commercial jet engine. It can seat up to 386 passengers in a three-class configuration with a maximum range of 14,490 km. PAL will fly the 777-300ER directly from Boeing’s factory at Everett, Washington to Vancouver, British Columbia, where the aeroplanes will enter revenue service to Manila. 'The 777 continues to outperform by all measures, providing exceptional value to our airline and leasing customers. There is no better testament to this than PAL's confidence in putting its new 777-300 directly into service with its flight from Vancouver to Manila.' A commercial passenger aircraft leasing company based in the United Kingdom, Avation PLC owns and manages a fleet of jet and turboprop aircraft for leasing to airlines across the world. Emirates celebrates 15 Years of Operations to Senegal

Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, is celebrating 15 successful years of flying to Dakar, Senegal. Since the inaugural flight in 2010, Emirates has played a pivotal role in connecting passengers and trade from Senegal, with its vast global network, via Dubai. Emirates first began operations to Dakar in 2010, operating an Airbus A340-300 with five-weekly services. This marked the first scheduled air link between the UAE and Senegal, creating a seamless, fast and convenient service for travellers. Beyond connectivity into the Middle East, the new route significantly improved ease of travel between Senegal, China and other Asian markets, a boon for traders and the business community. Likewise, the route also enhanced the journey for thousands of pilgrims, travelling to the holy city of Mecca for Hajj and Umrah. In 2016, Emirates upgraded the route to a Boeing 777-300ER, expanding the weekly seat count and cargo capacity, to bolster connectivity and serve the increased demand. Over the last 15 years, Emirates has operated 6,065 flights and carried over 890,290 passengers to and from the market, forging key inbound traffic from Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing in China; Delhi, Chennai and Bombay in India; as well as South Africa and Saudi Arabia. The outbound traffic is similar, with destinations such as China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. Commenting on the milestone, Arpit Behl, Country Manager, Senegal, Emirates said: “Celebrating 15 years of connecting to Senegal reflects the strong ties we have built with our customers, and partners, and our longstanding investment in this important market. Since our very first flight, we have delivered on our promise to enhance connectivity with the globe and provide travellers with a world-class inflight experience. We are proud to have played a key part in Senegal’s evolving aviation, tourism and trade sectors, and will continue our journey with new and exciting developments for years to come." Fondly referred to as the Land of Teraanga, Senegalese culture is defined by kindness, generosity and hospitality – key and in-demand traits amongst Emirates multinational Cabin Crew community. The airline employs more than 50 people from Senegal, including cabin crew, pilots, sales agents, and other positions across the Group. Emirates offers candidates exceptional career opportunities, including a wide range of development programs that aim to retain and inspire top talent. Emirates A380 Captain, Oumar Ba said: “As a proud Senegalese national, and Airbus A380 Captain for the world’s largest international airline, it’s a pleasure to see Emirates celebrating 15 years of operations to Dakar. I’ve been flying with Emirates for almost 10 years, travelling all over the world – one day, I hope to have the honour of flying the iconic Emirates A380 into Senegal!” Senegal and the UAE have deep-rooted and mutually beneficial bilateral and economic relations, with a significant growth in trade over the last 5 years. Emirates SkyCargo, the airline’s freight division, has played a key role in facilitating global trade with Senegal, transporting over 18,200 tonnes of goods in and out of Dakar, in the last five years alone. In addition to the bellyhold capacity in passenger aircraft, the airline operates a once weekly Boeing 777F freighter into Senegal, boosting the capacity of trade in and out of the region. Leveraging its industry-leading portfolio of fit-for-purpose products, Emirates SkyCargo uplifts key exports such as world-famous Senegalese seafood, transporting it worldwide. Popular shipments include thiof commonly known as grouper, Daurade (seabream) and Rougets (red mullet), transported to Europe, and lobster into destinations across East Asia. Beyond seafood, Emirates SkyCargo carries seasonal commodities such as seasonal beans to European destinations, as well as melons and mangoes into the UAE. Conversely, the airline imports vital commodities such as mobile phones and accessories, textiles and garments, and other electronics mostly from UAE, Hongkong and India; in addition to regular pharmaceutical shipments, such as vaccines.
