Merlin Entertainments has opened its first Chinese Sea Life aquarium, located in the western city of Chongqing.
The new attraction, which forms part of the Landmark Riverside Mall, features more than 150 species of marine life over two floors, with 15 themed areas, 25 ocean tanks and two “interactive touch pools”.
One of the main attractions will focus on the freshwater environment of the Yangtze River, which flows through Chongqing. This is aimed at educating local visitors about the ecosystem and the importance of the river to the local community.
Other features include the Seahorse Nursery, Stingray Bay, Ocean Tunnels, Sunken Shipwreck, Wave Crash and Coral Reef.
The new attraction will operate alongside Merlin’s other attraction in Chongqing, the waxwork museum Madame Tussauds. It also joins a collection of almost 60 Sea Life aquariums operating around the world, including locations in Thailand and South Korea.
