Riyadh Air and Saudia, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s national flag carriers, inked a Strategic Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding as part of an expanding agreement to include codeshare flight, marking a significant milestone moment of collaborative strength in the KSA aviation ecosystem. The Memorandum of Understanding is the two airlines’ first major agreement, and it is expected to establish the groundwork for future cooperation.
Along with boosting the entire Saudi aviation ecosystem, the agreement aims to provide a comprehensive set of benefits for visitors from Saudi Arabia and those travelling inside the Kingdom.
Guests of both airlines will be able to fully use each airline’s global network as part of the arrangement, thanks to a comprehensive interline and codeshare agreement allowing guests to travel seamlessly between sectors operated by Saudia or Riyadh Air.
Members of each carrier’s loyalty programme will be able to earn points or credits for using codeshare services provided by the other. This will be followed by a more comprehensive loyalty agreement in which guests will be able to accumulate or redeem points and get elite-level benefits across both carriers’ global networks.
This strategic cooperation commits Saudia and Riyadh Air, as the Kingdom’s national carriers, to working together and implementing broader synergies and efficiencies across the value chain in areas such as commercial, digital development, aviation support services, and cargo/logistics.
The strategic agreement also intends to optimise routes and resources in order to provide guests with a broader range of destinations and services in the long run.
“We’re delighted to be working alongside Riyadh Air and look forward to seeing another Saudi carrier supporting the national aviation strategy and the Kingdom’s tourism objectives,” said Saudia CEO Capt. Ibrahim Koshy. This is a historic occasion in which we join forces to serve guests travelling to and from the Kingdom. Saudia and Riyadh Air will positively disrupt the industry as a whole, and we are happy to sign this MOU indicating our partnership intent.”
“The MoU signing of this strategic collaboration shows a solid statement of intent from both airlines,” said Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas. Riyadh Air and Saudia will play an essential role in the expansion of travel tourism within the Kingdom; therefore, having the national carriers work together to accelerate and control this growth is the best way to accelerate and manage this growth. We are certain that Riyadh Air will raise the bar in air travel, and we believe that working with Saudia will help us achieve this as we prepare to launch in 2025.”
Benefits will be revealed with further specifics for guests booking flights on Saudia or Riyadh Air when Riyadh Air begins operations in 2025.
