Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya says Prayagraj has huge tourism potential. He said that before the Mahakumbh in 2025, the airport in Prayagraj will be made an international facility. The authorities are thinking about making a ‘Kanwar path’ for devotees of lord Shiva there. This was stated at a review meeting with officials of various departments in the district. In terms of passenger satisfaction, the Prayagraj airport has secured 13th position among domestic airports in the country.
Allahabad Airport, Now known as Prayagraj Airport has very rich Aviation history. The first commercial civil aviation flight took off from Allahabad for Naini over a distance of 8.08 miles (13 km). During the Allahabad Exhibition, Henri Pequet, a French aviator, carried 6,500 pieces of mail on a Humber biplane from the exhibition to the receiving office at Allahabad (Prayagraj). This is the world’s first official airmail service. Allahabad Aerodrome was among first four Aerodromes established in India along with the Bombay, Kolkata and Karachi (now in Pakistan). It started in the year 1924 and began operations in the year 1931 with appointment of Aerodrome officer.
