The Port of Cromarty Firth in the Scottish Highlands is searching for a Cruise Manager to continue to build on their recent record-breaking years.
The Port welcomed more cruise passengers than any other Scottish Port in 2016 and is looking forward to another record breaking year, as it brings more passengers and cruise ships into the Highlands in 2017. An estimated 142,000 passengers will come into the Port in Invergordon this year on 91 cruise ships, the highest number on record. This new cruise record represents a 45% increase in passengers and a 44% increase in cruise ships on last year’s figures.
Captain Iain Dunderdale, Cruise Manager at the Port of Cromarty Firth, has single-handedly generated this success over the past 30 years. He is planning to retire at the end of the year and the Port is now faced with the unenviable task of finding his replacement.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overall running of the cruise business in the Port. This includes business development, managing the cruise vessel calls, customer liaison, working with local tourism operators and budgetary control.
General Manager of the Port of Cromarty Firth, Calum Slater, comments: “This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual wanting to join a dynamic Port and play a part in a growing global industry that generates millions of pounds for the Highland economy. The candidate will have the chance to meet people from all over the world and develop a tourism sector that makes a huge difference to businesses right across our region.”
“It’s an exciting time to join the team. Iain Dunderdale has done an incredible job building the industry up from a single cruise visit in 1989 to 91 visits this year. He is handing over a busy schedule and a solid network of contacts. The Port’s plan is to develop a £35 million new quayside and passenger reception facilities, to welcome the growing number of cruise passengers to the Highlands. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in taking our cruise business to that next level.”
