PONANT Secures European Commission Grant for Swap2Zero Project

PONANT, a leader in maritime innovation, has achieved a significant milestone by securing INNOVFUND support for its groundbreaking Swap2Zero project. This initiative aims to develop the world’s first transoceanic ship designed for carbon neutrality, marking a major step forward in the cruise industry’s decarbonisation efforts. A Major Boost for Maritime Innovation The European Commission’s grant, financed through the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), is one of the largest funding initiatives dedicated to advancing low-carbon energy technologies. This support underscores the recognition PONANT is receiving for its pioneering efforts to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable cruise sector. Aligning with National and International Goals This grant highlights PONANT’s innovative spirit and aligns with France’s broader industrial goals. Supported by the French government and BPI as part of the CORIMER 2023 call for expressions of interest, the Swap2Zero project is in line with the France 2030 and CORIMER’s ‘Green Ship’ roadmap. These initiatives aim to accelerate the deployment of technological solutions within the maritime industry to meet decarbonisation targets by 2050. Pioneering Decarbonisation Technologies The Swap2Zero project is a testament to years of dedicated research and development by PONANT’s R&D and New Building teams. The project aims for zero CO2 emissions during operations, with a one-month autonomy, made possible through the integration of six groundbreaking decarbonisation technologies:

• Sail Power System: Utilizing wind force for 50% of propulsion energy.
• Photovoltaic Panels: Over 1,000m² of next-generation, eco-designed panels.
• Low-Temperature Fuel Cell: Operating on liquid hydrogen for propulsion, with recycled water and heat.
• High-Temperature Fuel Cell: Meeting hotel load needs with heat recovery for hot water production.
• On-board Carbon Capture Technology: Coupled with the high-temperature fuel cell.
• Innovative Energy Management System: Controlling and distributing power without generators.
